  1. How does this line stretch? Is it a co-polymer line? I was using P-Line Fluoroclear for a while but got turned off of it when I had some issues with it. I then witnessed a fishing buddy have the exact same issues, and figured that it must be a common problem. I am looking for a line that has less stretch then mono but can't seem to find a good one. You guys think Yo-zuri hybrid might be my answer?
  2. I had no intentions of breaking any regulations I was just trying to think of a way to catch the fish. He ate it, I didn't foul hook or snag him. I mean he was aggressively attacking the weight. On one cast, I actually casted 3 or 4 feet beyond the bed, and as soon as my rig hit the water, he darted at the weight and attacked it. I could reel the fish for a good 4-5 seconds before it came out , because there was no hook on it at that time. Ive had bass clear my lure from the bed before, but its much more relaxed, they nose down on it slowly and just gulp it up. This was an aggressive attack. I mean... if he was just clearing the bed, why was it that when I used a tube he would just swim off, clearly not interested in my tube laying in the middle of its bed. For some reason he was attracted to the weight, I can't think of any reason why but that is sure what it seemed. Anywho, no harm was intended, just trying to adapt. Thanks for all your input!
  3. So, I have been fishing a small lake located by my old house, where the males are now guarding the nests. I have been reading and looking for the best technique to get them to bite and saw a lot of good results when using a drop shot rig. Ill admit I am pretty traditional , but am starting to expand my techniques to try and better myself as a fisherman overall. I set up a drop **** rig on my medium light spinning set up, hooked up a small 4 inch chompers drop shot worm, and started my quest to catch a specific bass that was getting on my nerves because I have seen him there for about a week straight but he was not interested in my tube. I worked on him for about a half hour, and finally got him to bite.... But he bit my drop shot weight, not the worm. I shrugged it off and figured he just... missed. So I work on him for another 15 minutes, and he bites again.... yes you guessed it... he ate my drop shot weight... again. He did this two more times, needless to say I was dumbfounded. I was using these weights specifically http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shopsreg;-XPSreg;-Drop-Weights/product/20871/101895?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL in the 1/4 oz size.... which is pretty small. This bass wasn't huge, but it was a decent 2 pound fish. So I got this idea... I grabbed one of my replacement treble hooks I had sitting in my box, slid the weight on but didn't clasp it in, tied the hook about 5 inches below the weight, and slid the weight down until it was flush with the hook, and secured the weight in its clasp, about 15 inches below my hook where the weight would normally go by itself. I worked him for about 10 more minutes, and sure enough, he ate my weight again. I set the hook and it was a wrap. I caught a bass... on a weight with a treble hook. Not a huge one, but it was happy that I adapted to the situation and caught something on a strange rig that I would never think a fish would even be remotely interested in. I was worried that it would just snap my line at the treble, where the weight clasps on, because I can usually just pop my line after securing in that tight clasp as I believe it probably cuts the line to a degree, but it didn't. Has this happened to anyone else? I am new to drop shotting and didn't even think of this possibly happening, well that's my story. May not be the most intense and interesting fishing story you have heard but I thought it was cool! Fun too! Thanks guys for any input you can share!
  4. I have both, and If I were to choose one, I would go with the carbonlite. After fishing with the carbonlite for a while, and I set it down to pick up the extreme, it feels like I am fishing with a tree. Not to say that the extreme is a bad rod, I have caught plently of fish on it. I have a 6'6" carbonlite m/h fast and a 7' mh f extreme. The extreme is a really stiff rod, but it does its purpose! Can't go wrong with either to be honest, but I like the carbonlite.

I have had alot of success with chatterbaits, it used to be a bait I just overlooked when shopping. I tend to just stockpile baits that I have used forever and I know will work, but lately I have began buying baits that may not fit the bill of my "standard" tackle purchases. I fish it usually with a erratic retrieve, pretty much how I fish a spinnerbait and lipless crank, hard jerks every 1-2 feet, instead of just the steady retrieve. But yes, chatter baits are a good investment, works for me and I am sure it will work for you. However, almost every z-man chatterbait I have purchased..... the skirt just comes off when I catch a nice fish, not a deal breaker, more or less just annoying.
  6. Anyone seen these? Or have had a chance to throw any of them? The colors look amazing. The colors look as good as the livetarget baits that sell for 15$. I don't know much about the build quality though, was wondering if anyone had any hands on with them, thinking about purchasing a few. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-RealImage-HDS-Rip-N-Shad/1316433.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3DrealImage%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=realImage&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
  7. PQ is a very good reel. When at the store picking out my next bait casting reel, I held and examined quite a few, and the PQ just feels well built and smooth. It also is known to be one of the better if not the best value for its price reel that BPS carries. I recommend it.
  8. I have got to ask. Before really getting into the "science" of fishing. All I ever used was standard mono filament. I never had problems catching fish, I will admit now that I catch more purely based on my understanding of the species and what to use in certain conditions. I am currently using different types of fluro trying to find one that I really like. But I Have to ask... Isn't the hottest thing in fishing right now considered the Alabama rig and other similar knock offs? So how can I support the science of getting more strikes by using a line that they can't see. When people are killing in on a bait that consists of basically 5 steel leaders put together and on top of that it is recomended that you tie directly to 80# plus braid... It makes me wonder. I think next I'm going to to just tie braid onto my bait casters and tie directly to my baits, and see how that performs. Id rather have that extra strength, then worry about if a fish sees my line.
  9. So, two part question here. This evening, around 7pm I decided to go up to the local lake and try some late evening fishing for about an hour. I was killing them, I had 5 in about 30 minutes in the 2-3 pound range. I was using a crawfish colored red eye shad and they couldn't resist it. I have had the same red eye shad tied on my line for about a week and used it on the last fishing trip. My father caught a easy 5-6 pounder on it and I caught a few smaller ones. I had no issues what so ever. I did however snag a underwater tree and almost drug the entire tree onto the bank before my lure popped free. This evening, just as I was calling it quits, I hooked up with what might have been the biggest bass I have caught out of that body of water I was fishing. ( Community pond/lake whatever you want to call it ) Probably would have been over 6 pounds. However, I am using 15 pound fluoroclear, and my line just popped. I couldn't tell if it popped at the knot, or popped a few feet up from the knot. I use a knot that Grisby recommends for fluorocarbon, . Even though it isn't a true fluorocarbon line, i figured it couldn't hurt.My first question would be.... how often to you guys re-tie your baits onto your line? Should I have taken bait off, trimmed some line, and re-tied it after snagging that tree? Perhaps it put too much stress on it which in turn caused it to break when I hooked that big fish a few days later. My second question would be, does anyone have any experience with pline fluorclear that has had any issues with it snapping or anything of that nature? I really like how the line performs on my bait casters but if it is a known issue I wouldn't risk it. It could have just been bad luck, or completely my fault because I didn't think to re-tie my lure after putting all that stress on it. Anywho, thanks for your time and any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
  10. Yes it was pertaining to this specific model. My may concern is not breaking the bank so I was looking at a budget priced rod and this one had stellar reviews for its price point. Just that i saw a few posts talking about problems with the mhm rod in particular. I full well understand that that is a staple for cranks and trebles. I suppose ill broaden my search and try and find one that fits the bill better. Thank you for your time!
  11. So... I think I have decided on what I want. I am going to look at the 7ft MH, Fast action Vendetta casting rod, and pair it up with a bps pro qualifier in the 6.4:1. The reason for the MH, is that I read some things about the 7ft M, moderate action rod, and that a certain user had some problems with that rod, multiple times. Anyone else have information on that? If it is just an oddball occurrence I might go for that rod instead. It seems like a solid bang for your buck rod, and read a great review on tackle tour. I would be mostly for throwing traps, flipping in heavy cover, and some cranks. There is a lot of underwater vegetation where I fish, so i strong rod to rip it out is a plus. What do you think? What about reel ratio? Do you think 6.4:1 will cut it for a versatile combo? or should I go 7:1, I can always slow it down. Anywho, thanks again for any future input!
  12. Indeed! I am in the market for another baitcasting outfit. They have the Johnny Morris Carbon black series on sale for 60$ as a daily deal. And the new BPS Extreme rod, and reel on sale. For some reason the carbon black isn't on the website product list, so I can't see if they have any left handed retrieve models. If they do, I am probably all over that.
  13. Thank you! Yes, I already a few spinning outfits specifically for finesse baits. I don't know why I waited so long to get into bait casters, I guess it was the fear of, "more time picking out backlashes then fishing" mentality that some of my buddies would push onto me. I have taken my rod out a few times now to the water and I have yet to experience any type of problems. The accuracy, control, and speed of which I can fish is just so much greater, that I can't stop using it. Sadly, my backyard and basement are not producing that many fish this time of year. I can't wait until spring! And thank you everyone else for you input as well. Lots of good information gathered. Hopefully I can pick up a good deal at the BPS spring classic. Does anyone know how their rod and reel trade in works? Does it matter how old the outfits are? Does that devalue the amount I would get for a trade in. They are all in working condition, just old. From what I read you got a coupon as long as it was in working condition. But the coupon amount was based off of your new purchase. Thanks!
  14. Hey guys and gals, I have been a regular here , reading the articles and such and decided to join the forums so I could discuss some fishing topics. I just recently purchased a baitcasting. 6 1/2 ft medium heavy fast tip carbonlite combo, I am in the market for a second, as I understand they are technique specific. I have no problems with backlashes, and love the control and accuracy they provide. I plan on using it for mainly spinner baits, some heavy soft baits, and maybe some small cranks. If I were to get a second, what would you guys recommend? Something that I can use a variety of different baits and techniques with. Should I lean towers a 7ft + rod , and use it for heavy cranks, top waters, pitching, etc.. or would there be a better option that is more universal. Thanks for taking time to read, and I appreciate any helpful insight from seasoned baitcast users. Thanks!
