  1. Do you grow it on spinning gear? Is 8lb fluoro too much or should I go with 6lb?
  2. I'm wanting to get into throwing spybait's. I've been looking at the Duo Gfix 80 and Jackall iProp. The Duo gets a lot more press than the Jackall. Has anybody been using both or is there one that works better?
  3. Ok. Sounds like I need to stick to what I know. Or try the new Sunline Assassin FC in 20lb.
  4. I would never dream of putting 17lb fluoro on a spinning reel. This would be on a Lew's Team Lite. I was saying my only experience with InvizX was with 8lb on a spinning reel and I wasn't pleased. This was 3 or 4 years ago so I'm willing to try it again as long as it's not really stretchy like the 8lb.
  5. I used 8lb InvizX on a spinning reel several years ago and did not care for it. It had a lot of stretch and zero abrasion resistance. I know AbrazX is more abrasion resistant, hence the name. I have access to a larger spool of 17lb InvizX. I'm thinking of getting it for Carolina rigs and 1/2-3/4oz football jigs. Does InvizX have a lot of stretch in the higher pound ratings or is better (less stretch)? I've used Sunline Sniper a lot so if anybody has used higher pound (14-20lb) in both lines, how do they compare? Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the info. I probably should have called them first but I have a tournament on Wednesday and did not know if it would arrive in time and did not want to gamble on it.
  7. Thanks for the info. I'll be getting the Heavy Monday.
  8. Thanks for the info. I'm leaning towards the Heavy a little bit. One thing I forgot to put in my original post is that I have a birth defect if my right arm. I hold the rod in my right arm and set the hook with it. I'm thinking the Heavy action will help drive the hook better. Am I right or will the 7'3" MH help drive the hook since I'm picking up a little more line on the hook set? Anybody else?
  9. i bought a 7' MH Micro Magic a little over a month ago and the insert came out of the tip. Bass Pro is letting me exchange it since it's the discontinued Micro Magic from last year. I love the 7' but they do not have one in stock. They do have a 7' H and a 7'3" MH. I mainly throw 3/8oz jigs around docks and in brush piles when the opportunity presents itself. I have several 1/2oz football jigs but I hardly every throw them. Since they do not have the 7'MH in stock, should I get the 7'H or 7'3"MH? I've held both and like how they both feel. I don't know if I really need the heavy so I'm undecided. Thanks.
  10. Quick update: I found a guy who let me demo his 7'1" MH E6X for a morning of fishing. I had handled them in bass pro but I was glad I got the chance to fish with it. It was sensitive. I never had to wonder what my jig was doing or when I had a bite. The fit and finish was nice and the soft tip loaded well and made for accurate casting. There was only a few things I did not care for. It seemed the reel nut seemed to work itself loose a little so I kept checking it eveyr so often. The contoured handle wasn't the most comfortable for me. The rod was a little heavier and balanced a little further forward then I was used too but it wasn't anything I couldn't get accustomed to. Overall I really like the rod and was really glad I was able to fish with the rod. I went to bass pro yesterday to pick up an E6X. My bass pro had a bunch of rods on sale as part of a "rod riot" and had 1 Duckett 7'MH micro magic for $119. I played around with it and asked one of the associates if I could put a Revo SX on it (weights the same as my Lews) and walked out with the Duckett. I got to fish the Duckett this morning and caught several bass in the 2.5-3.25 lb range. I really like the Duckett. It seems more sensitive then the Loomis and is very light. I need more time on the water with the rod but so far I am glad I picked up the Duckett. The only thing I do not like about the Duckett is the bait hanger. Its fine for a jig but I was looking at adding another micro magic or ghost for carolina rigs and the closed bait hanger doesn't allow me to keep my hook in my bait and put it on the hanger. Its a minor issue that I can probably work around.
  11. Do the micro magic's turn yellow? I know it doesn't affect the fishing, just curious.
  12. I'm looking for a new jig rod. I mainly throw 3/8 oz arkie heads with some 3/8 and 1/2 oz football. I've narrowed it down to the 7' mh micro magic pro and 7'1" mh jwr E6X. I realize the Loomis is pretty new so it might not have a lot of info yet. Which is more sensitive and better overall for jigs? Thanks a bunch.
  13. I'm a fan of Sunline Sniper. When I first looked at fluoro everybody recommended Seaguar. I tried it and liked it at first. Then I started having durability issues. I took it off all my reels and went to Sniper. I can get it fairly easily where I live for the same price as Seaguar, it handles nearly as well as Seaguar, but most importantly its more abrasion resistant and holds up better than Seaguar. I've also used Trilene. Its ok. Has a little more memory then Sniper and costs nearly the same. I can't really comment on its durability since I mainly throw crankbaits and jerkbaits on it but so far so good. Especailly since the spool was free from a Berkley rep. I have Vicious Elite on a reel. The only way to describe it is, nearly impossible to break. I have it in 14 lb but it seems to break well over that. The down side is that if its on your reel for more then 5 seconds without KVD line and lure it has so much memory its nearly impossible to work with. I love its durability but can't stand its memory. It might be a couple dollars cheaper but my advise is to spend a little more on the line to start with or you'll be spending your savings on Goody's powder to get rid of the headache.
  14. I've been using a 6'9" Micro Carbonlite for Carolina Rigs and jigs for nearly 2 years without any trouble. I find that it is more then adequate for nearly every jig I throw. I had a 7' MH Carbonlite but recently sold it because I never used it anymore. I throw 3/8 oz-1/2oz football jigs, 1/4oz-3/8oz finesse jigs, and 3/4oz tungsten weights on my Carolina rigs and when using 14lb fluoro I don't have an issue driving hooks or loosing fish. The 7' rod will work just fine but for some reason I found myself always using my 6'9" when I had both. I don't miss my 7' and am glad I picked up another 6'9". I find that its long enough to make long casts for dragging a football jig or carolina rig but its also short enough to comfortably pitch and skip jigs under docks.
  15. Just got my tax refund check so here is what I bought since Wednesday. Probably missed a couple things like hooks and tungsten weights but this is most of it: Curado I 201HG Shimano Sahara 3000 Veritas 2.0 6'9" MH Sufix 832 10lb Neon Lime Vicious Elite Fluoro 14lb Spro Little John Baby DD LC Pointer 95 x2 LC Pointer 78 Lucky Craft RTO 1.5DD x4 Jackall Squad Minnow 95 5xd silent Siebert Outdoors jigs x3 Missle babay D bomb Missle Shockwave Rage Menace grubs x3 Zoom Super Chunk Jr. x2 Gulp saltwater shrimp x8
  16. I don't think it really matters how long the leader is. But no matter what I don't want the knot connecting the braid and leader to go into my reel. To accomplish this I use a uni to uni knot and wind the line so the knot is just above first guide away from the reel. Then I cut the leader about 3 or 4 ft past the tip. That gives me a leader of 8 to 10 ft depending on the rod.
  17. I wont put any Seaguar line on my reels ever again. I'm probably the only person to say that but I had nothing but trouble from their products. I stick to Sunline Sniper, Vicious Pro Elite, and Berkley fluoro. I've never had any trouble out of any of those lines. No matter what fluoro you go with, I'd reccomend a line conditioner. I use KVD's Line and Lure and it really helps.
  18. What do you guys think about the Crack color? I've had pretty good success catching spotted bass on chartreuse soft plastics.
  19. Thanks guys. Also going to get a couple 78's.
  20. I'll certainly look at those colors. MS American Shad has always caught my eye but I'm certainly looking into other options.
  21. I decided to add a couple silent Pointer 95's to my box for this year but can't pick a color. I mostly fish lake norman in central NC which has a ton of spotted bass and usually has pretty clear water. I already have one in Ghost Natural Shad. What other color do you recommend for clear water? I was thinking of either Ghost Minnow or MS American Shad. Thoughts?
  22. I have been in the market for a new crankbait rod. I was looking at the 7'6" MH Crankin Stick and Veritas Winch. I have handled both a little but not a lot. I played with a couple other 7'6" rods and think they are a little cumbersome for me (birth defect of my right arm so long rods don't always work for me). I had my local BPS order in a 7' Winch and Crankin Stick since they were sold out. I stopped by Walmart and found they had the Falcon Jason Chrisite Signature rods. I picked up the 7' MH/M crankbait and spinnerbait rod. Is this a good choice or should I take it back? Has anybody used this rod? I'll mainly be throwing Spro Fat Papa 70s/Little John Baby DDs, Rapala DT 14s and 16s, and a few Strike King 5XDs. Thanks.
  23. My local BPS has neither in stock so I had them order one of each for me to handle. In the mean time I picked up a Falcon Jason Christie Signature rod. I got the 7' MH/M crankbait and spinnerbait rod. It seems like a winner. Hoping to hit the lake this weekend to give it a try. Anybody have any experience with this rod?
  24. Thanks for the help. My lakes have little to no grass. I mostly target hard cover. My go to deep cranks are DT14s and DT16s, Little John DDs, and Strike King 5xds. It sounds like the Veritas is going to be a better choice for me.
