  1. I think Ryobi made one a decade or so ago. They do not import to the US anymore. Quantum had the microlite back in the early 90's that could cast 1/8oz but I think size wise it was bigger than the 50. I think the Abu 1500c is the same size as the 50.
  2. Revo comes with a spare spool, something Shimano and Daiwa don't provide. My Revo Inshore has easily handled salty fish up to 30lbs. They are stiffer than Shimano/Daiwa, but like a good gun, they work in.
  3. I use big game 8 and 10 on 3000 size spinners without much trouble.
  4. I wasn't attacking anyone for their gear choice. I was defending someone in their opinion. Wheres the insult there? Oh oh here comes yet another warning point!
  5. Now we are picking apart folks writing. Its time for the lock. pbizzle you are right in your epiphany. But broadcasting that truth here is akin to showing that shimano is not strictly in it for their love for the angler or GASP, that you can catch really big bass using bait. Oh shutter the truth...
  6. Braid as leader is very common in Europe especially for carp and here for catfish. The idea is its suppleness does not trigger a warning to feeler or more intelligent fish. Cant imagine any other useful reason to do it though.
  7. My Dad had Prostate Cancer in his early 90's, his Dad died from it at 104. I got it at the rip old age of 41. Everybody should get checked for it even if they and their Dr. feel they are too young to worry about it.
  8. "I like beer" by Tom T. Hall
  9. Just like all the new rods and reels are more bling, chrome and ball bearings for the sake of ball bearings........so are broadcast channels more dribble. Todays angler has to have color matching rods/reels to go with their bright yellow sneakers.........Todays t.v. viewer has to have mindless bloodlust and avoid thought provoking information. Nature channels have turned into like you said...the Amish mafia and 'I was kidnapped by bigfoot'. The History channel is perhaps the worst. It has turned from History, its namesake, to a nearly 24hr. a day Alien documentary complete with college professors explaining natural disaster as a tool for little green men. Then of course there's Food TV no longer having instructional shows that help you cook, only cupcake wars and cookie wars.
  10. Most inshore spinning rods are 'popping' rods, soft tips for lobbing popping cork rigs. They make great crankbait rods. If your plan is to make long casts with heavier lures from shore and insist on a spinning reel, look at Cabela's Predator European style rods and some decent carp rods. Otherwise since your using heavier weights for long distance, there is no way your going to get casting gear performance out of gear. You definitely want to go with 4000 size spinners for this type of fishing.
  11. 3 Custom Abu 2500C's by that guy in Sweden who creates the custom grips and spools. Paired up with custom rods, 1 6ft., 1 7ft., 1 on a flyrod blank. Then a Daiwa Steez spinning combo.
  12. 96 degrees yesterday with 93% humidity, fall doesn't start till November here
  13. Im curious, why? The few fishing trips Ive taken to Tenn. there wasn't much structure in the water. I use 2lb. and 4lb. on a Abu 1500C and a kokanee rod for baby tarpon near mangroves, it's a blast.
  14. In-Fisherman's website has a blog by contributor Ned Kehde called the Midwest Finesse. He has tons of really good articles in it about Kansas area fishing specializing on tough bites and seasonal issues. I bet they hold some good info for you in Kansas.
  15. What about switching to a spinning outfit or vie versa. I've developed carpel tunnel and the doc suggested I switch. So far spinning has alleviated quite a bit of pain and numbness.
  16. 87 degrees at 10am today, 94 by 2pm. Anybody up there wanna trade houses?
  17. Those gooey handles are one of the reasons I will never buy a Shimano again. Something reacts with the Septon. Shimano told me it was my sunscreen. I told them Ive never used sunscreen....ever. Then they said it was that I was using non shimano oil. I told them I don't oil the grip itself and had only used the oil they supplied with the reel. Then I was ignored. Then about a year later I finally saw Bantam acknowledge that they had many complaints of this but only in Florida. So I contacted them again and they denied that "internet" admission and told me it was just my body chemistry. They warned me not to use rubbing alcohol and to buy reel grips. I tried a massage of baby powder which would work for about long enough to start fishing then it would go gummy again. Whats worse, gummy sticky grips or little tiny Eva foam nubs? Good bye shimano.
  18. Yeah but Crapala wasn't always crap. Its just what happens when companies are bought up and there are just giant conglomerates left.
  19. Yeah but one day, before you know it actually, your eyesight is going to start to give you trouble, just part of getting older. Then the MAY becomes much more probable.
  20. Snook, Ive found the Lexa 2500 and 3000 Spinners to be as smooth as the more expensive Stradics. The finish is much more durable. I think you'll be happy.
  21. Maybe sometimes but I use a bucktail jig for just the opposite. For pressured fish and when water temps are crazy hot and oppressive which is 10 months out of the year here. A slim baitfish profile, crawdads aren't really a forage here. Sometimes I mix EP hair or Steve Farrar blend into the bucktail but always keep the tie sparse.

Look for deals. Ive picked up a Paasche compressor at a garage sale for $5 in pristine condition. Last week my wife brought home a Iwata double action Neo for $6 at another garage sale, it still had to $69 sticker from Hobby Lobby on it and the box was still factory sealed.
  23. St. Croix's new obnoxious colors are one thing but the new inshore in total white? Its like a Ike gang symbol or something. A true genius decided to have white handles. Is anyone finding the new style of spinning grips comfortable? The newer Fuji ones. Its like holding a tiny tube with 2 bulbous threaded nuts. I miss pre bling St. Croix.
  24. Are you always watching your unattended vehicle in hopes of taking deadly force in the protection of physical property?
