  1. I ordered the 6# as soon as it was available, it works very well in my limited experience. (~3 months) I used it for light tubes, weightless flukes, light texas rigged craws, and drop shot to try to get a feel for what it was good at. Finesse applications right? Very sensetive, which is quite possibly its best attribute. Also it's pretty supple for FC right off the spool. As always, heavily coated it in KVD L&L as I was spooling it on the reel and stretched it out twice. Very little issues with twists now. Didnt get to test abrasion resistance like I wanted to, but it wasn't too bad for a line of this nature. I had no fear dragging tubes and craws through rock piles and boulder fields. It got tore up, but it still brought fish back to the boat/shore. If you've got a dedicated finesse setup, this might be a good choice for you. But if you're gonna run it on a do all set up...stick with SL sniper, it's just as good for most applications and cheaper.
  2. Nice looking smallie!
  3. Right on! They're chunky right now, some more than others, but certainly getting ready for winter! I should also mention I've noticed a pattern... the best producing docks on my lake have also have submerged timber near them, in this case an entire hemlock tree that uprooted and fell to the side of the dock and sunk ~15 feet down to the bottom. Ran the pointer over it, and up came the school! Sight fishing is fun.
  4. When you can see them, try to skip a weightless fluke to those fish near the docks, or pitch a light (1/8 -1/4oz) tube jig in a natural color. Also caught some decent fish dropshotting right next to docks...robo worms and erie darter jr. I've still had my best luck fishing a LC pointer 78 this fall..they will rarely chase one down at these temps. I've been pausing for as long as 15-25 seconds to get strikes some days, other times 2-5 seconds and they rip the pole out of your hand. Just make sure you have slack in your line and the lure stops dead. Those are my 4 suggestions for fall smallies. Water temps ~50 degrees here in very Northern NY. Both of these fish were caught next to the same dock, first on the pointer, then followed up immediately with a tube to the ones I saw following the first fish! Not big fish, but fun. Go get em!
  5. Just a bit of info if you havent seen this already. http://www.tackletou...se2012rods.html
  6. Rod: Megabass Orochi F3-610X4S Reel: Sustain FG 2500 Soft bait: Robo worms...santa can pick a color Hardbait: LC pointer 78 in ghost minnow Wire: War Eagle screamin eagle in spot remover
  7. Revo S20 which is model no. : 1275050 ^^^^^^^^ That model weighs 8.4 ounces, which is probably close to a comparable 2500 size reel? But, I am not really familiar with their reels, so maybe an abu guy will chime in here for you.

^^What a brown! Well done. Makes me wish I lived closer to the big lakes
  9. Gambler, theres a 51e for sale in the flea market..CH-51e? Same reel as yours? I've got a couple tuned curados and have fallen in love. I'm not familiar with the chronarch line however, but I am thinking of picking it up if its a decent model. What do you think?
  10. I've got 5 dobyns rods, 2 champ extremes, 2 champs, and a savvy. (3 spinning and 2 BC) That being said, I can try to describe the blank and feel of the 763 for you. Ive got a champ 703SF (similar blank, slightly shorter), it is my absolute favorite rod, simply awesome for fishing tubes/finesse jigs less than 7/16oz. It's the rod in my avatar. The 3 power blank is super sensetive, and also very light as Hootie mentioned too. Balanced perfect with a sustain 2500...for me anyways. Also works very well throwing lighter jerkbaits and cranks. In my opinion, the rod, (703 and 763 SF) are more or less a combination of ML and medium, its got some give to it...depending on what you plan on using it for, this can be good or bad. I think you'll enjoy it!
  11. It's a great reel, you wont be dissapointed if you do pick one up. I've got the 2500 mounted on a Loomis 822S as a backup dropshot rig. It's every bit as good as my Ci4s which are the same 2500 size. It's as smooth as silk, has an excellent drag system, but it is just a tad heavier. Cool paint on it too, irredescent green/white.
  12. The craw papi is a great bait, I've had good luck with them in the smaller rivers around here. I say give it a try, green pumpkin always worked for me when I threw them during the summer. It might be a good choice in the river, but on the lake I'd throw a suspending jerkbait to begin with, if you start finding fish then experiment in that area with your plastics. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
  13. Up here in the mountains, the fall pattern is well under way. I've had awesome days this month fishing suspending jerkbaits, flukes, and a dropshot. It's not too late for smallies until the water is frozen! As for a location: Make your way to the Ausable River. It has smallmouths. Most guys fly fish it. So, bring your waders, and trout gear too if you've got it. Check this out for more info: http://www.flyangler...vers/ausableny/ Lake Placid and Saranac Lake both have good numbers of bass if you dont want to fish the river. Fish the public access spots, it's fall, so you might very well find some smallies right there near shore.

What a HOG that pike is, and at night? Never caught one after dusk, but maybe thats when the big ladies are on the prowl!

That's a nice brown right there John! Jerkbait?? Hitting up Champlain this weekend with a girl I met down there (she's really gonna go, which is impressive this time of year!), hoping to show her a couple chunky smallmouths.

And that is one nice steelie! What'd she fall for??

Interesting info, I woulda never thought that as we have always caught them suspended over 50 or 60 feet of water all other times of the year, this is the first time I left the motor on my fishing raft for the fall, so I'mjust learning the fall patterns here, so far so good, but no footballs....yet.

I dont have much saltwater experience, but I'll bet that cobia gave you everything you wanted on a MH freshwater rod! Nice fish, any idea what it weighed??
  19. Hey guys, thought I'd start a thread about those other fish we catch from time to time while bass fishing. Up here in the North, fall is in full swing, so I have been out there searching for a new PB smallmouth. My goal is a 6lb bronzeback, from waters not including the great lakes, or the St.Lawrence River. I have thus far failed in my efforts, but have landed some really nice trout in the lake I usually fish. So, I thought I'd share some pics and ask, whats your most memorable or surprising bonus fish? Mine is this gorgeous bull rainbow trout. Yes, he hit a pointer 78 (baitfish silver)...actually he CRUSHED it, and I thought I was into a decent smallie. This fish was shallow, near a downed tree, I didnt know trout related to cover in lakes. Enjoy, now lets hear some stories!
  20. I delivered furniture for 10 years before taking my current job. I can count the number of times I got a tip on my fingers and toes. Cant tell you how many times customers watched me fall, trip, sweat buckets putting their stuff together and where they wanted it. Never asked for a tip once in those 10 years. Here's the conclusion I came to after many days of busting my ****...the people who legitimately have money to burn will almost NEVER tip. The guy with his shirt falling apart and off his back will give you his last fiver. /Glad to be done delivering.
  21. Big brown sunfish Throwin' pointers today
  22. Care to elaborate on some of the "bad things" you've heard about?
  23. Here is my silver pike, not as big as Dwights though! nice fish!!! Caught on Lake Champlain during a bass tournament I was fishing, released of course.
  24. The 3000 will hold plenty of 10# line like you want. The 4000 is still pretty light, just bigger.
  25. My mistake thought you meant something on top. Mine is just like in that picture, so yes it does have the little notch, but it doesnt bother me, or stick into my palm. Maybe I just dont notice it!
