  1. I only use handmade lures. But I dont make them so its cheap for me. plus i can throw something that nobody around here has.
  2. I caught 20 bass on the same Rage Tail frog the other day walking it on heavy mats of veggies. I noticed the "stunning" for sure but most of my catches were on split second hook sets. Of course super line and cutting tip hooks make it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier.
  3. Good info. I wont be getting one of those.
  4. Sry about that quote. Im not great with this phone. What is the "checkmark" that i can click next to peoples posts? Is it like a "like" on facebook? That person was very lucky. Im sure this incident reminded both partys about how quick "it" can happen. Even if you are a "good" swimmer, things happen. Have you guys seen the life jackets that inflate upon submersion?
  5. Just got done watching my evening news here in Davenport Iowa and there has been yet another fatal boating accident... This one was sadly fatal for four boaters in their early twenties. The mighty Mississippi has taken six young "river rats" from us already this boating season. Why is it that people think "it" wont happen to them? Pushing your luck in a lake is bad enough, but in the Mississippi, its just moronic. We all have friends and family that want us to return the way we left (maybe in a better mood after catching some nice bass) and who would be angry at us if we lost our lives because of a stupid mistake. Wear life jackets, use lights or horns, and stay alert. There are idiots on the water just as there are on our roads... Boat defensively. Be safe. Have fun.
  6. Lots of good info. thx. If I do use tape, what kind of tape, how much, and how do i stick it to the spool?? Also, what is the "check" that i can click next to peoples posts? Thx guys. Great Forum!!
  7. That was my next question... A third would be roughly 40yds of mono for me. Is that much necessary?? I know it prevents the braid from digging in as well as slipping but it seems a little exteme. I would like more line that i want in the water on my spool. I have a bright green too. Should I use a flouro leader for clear water if im fishing semi-deep(6-15ft) water? Thoughts? thx :-)
  8. Thank you both. Very helpful. Gotta get this figured out before vacation... :-)
  9. Ok, so I just bought some Fireline after reading many articles proclaiming its superiority. Fireline recommends a mono backer of about 1/3 of your spool cap, to prevent slippage(what is slippage exactly?)..... How many of you actually use mono backers with superlines? If you do, is there a certain kind or strength that is optimal? I got the 30# Fireline. 12# thickness. My reel only holds 110yds(Quantum Tour Edition) of 12# test. Should I use a third of the spool for backer as recommended? Also what knot is best for splicing the mono to the superline? Bloodknot? Is there one that lays flatter on the spool? Any of you great anglers in these forums with knowledge oiin these topics would be greatly appreciated for your advice. Thank you.
  10. Thank you both very much. Your responses are very helpfull. This does clarify a fews things but as all dedicated bassaholics, my quest for knowledge goes on!
  11. Ive recently been studying LMB movements. Specifically, water column movement. Or, how much bass move up or down in a given body of water. Now i know the key factor here is water temp. But i have found conflicting info on how much a LMB actually moves throughout the water column. Some reports say its only a few ft a day depending on time of yr and water depth. Others say they move from deep to shollow (to feed) at sunrise and sunset during the warm months. That could be as much as a 20 ft journey through the column. Is it specifically based on the time of year?? Anyone versed in this topic with some input would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Warm beer. Missing a fish because of a stupid mistake ( ex. loose knot) Lazy parents Spoiled children Back stabbers People who think they are better than others.
  13. I too work with my hands on a daily basis. As a Journeyman Union Ironworker I have learned valuable skills such as welding(mostly stick and mig), rigging, reinforcing, stuctural, bridge, and ornamental field applications. I come from a family of tradesmen. I was encouraged to attend college as a youngin too but would have to finance the "gamble" myself. Yes i said gamble. Most college grads dont even get a job for which they majored in. Then your in debt for yrs.... Just wasnt for me. I need to be ourdoors working hard with my body AND mind. Even if its cold...After a couple yrs of deciding if i wanted to join the military or not, i finally went to my local ironworkers union hall and put in an app. Been in for seven yrs now. Made some great freinds. Ironworkers are a very close brotherhood. Our daily dangers force to look out for eachother and become close. I wouldnt trade it for the world!
  14. Im with goose on this one. I walk many miles at work. Then when i go fishing im almost always walking. Its a great thing when you get exersize and enjoyment at the same time.... Life is good.
  15. Try spinners with gold blades. If that doesnt work, a texas rigged worm should get some bites. Good luck.
  16. Just following suite by introducing myself here. Im from Iowa and mostly fish from the bank for largemouth. I do fairly well... I hope this site will help me do GREAT! Site seems very informitive so far. Good videos.
