  1. I use a green scrubby pad and Dawn dish soap. Alot of the smell gets trapped by your fingernails too so I hit them with a scrub brush thoroughly. Works everytime the first time.
  2. The main reason people call them Athletes is because Athletes play a sport, like fishing.... Let me guess...you think fishing isnt a "real sport" too? They call race car drivers athletes and they sit on their butts the whole time...
  3. And theres no "fat guys with bad backs" in football or baseball?? I forgot though. They are REAL athletes cause they chase a ball around... Standing up all day and casting over and over will take its toll in just a few hrs if your not in decent shape. So will standing on a mound throwing a ball over and over.
  4. I would only throw two types of baits there. Frogs and a "Diamond Pegged" plastic worm. I fish a place around here with ALOT of veggies. I almost gave up on it untill I found "Diamond Pegs". Now I can rip my plastics through anything without any lure slippage. Plus my knot is now protected at all times. A little scent will lube the lure and allow it to slip through the weeds easier as well... I think tackle warehouse has them. They are a small, metal wire peg, bent in the shape of a diamond. They slide through your plastic and through the eye of they hook past the diamond shape and are locked in. You get five different sizes. Best addition to my plastics fishing since I started using EWG hooks. Ill never be without them in the weeds again. They also make your plastic last longer because its not slipping and ripping every other cast.
  5. Brand or scent DOES NOT MATTER. As long as you remove unatural scents your good. I get the cheapest garlic scent I can find. Works like a charm. I use it on any type of lure/bait you can think of.
  6. I usually go through the column in each spot from the bank. Start with a topwater, spinner/crank then plastics. I hardly ever get skunked anymore. An intimate knowledge of your fishery is paramount. We all have lulls in action. Part of the sport. If you caught 50 bass EVERY time you went out then it wouldnt be a challenge anymore. And that, my friend, is what its all about. GOOD LUCK. FISH ON!!!
  7. Lol. glad i read comments first
  8. Its too bad you took her out. You can get replicas you know... Take pics and measurements.
  9. Thx Blue. Its not that low. Its only 6-10" low. It gets deep quick. Most of the weeds are 6-12' long. Some of the submergent weeds are still around but 95% of the scum is gone...
  10. My avatar pic is from Lake of the Hills...
  11. Yea its pressured but there are still fish there. You just have to put in some work.
  12. Put the frog back on and slooooooooooooooow dooooooooooooooown. :-) Good luck!
  13. Ive had my eye on these snakes for a while now. The youtube videos are amazing. No denying those. Just not sure about them... Seems as though alot of strikes would be missed unless the bass is big enogh to engulf the whole snake in one fell swoop. Of course in lake with 8-10lbers this is NO problemo! Try em out and let us know. Ill follow this thread. Good luck!
  14. No problem logan. I just learned about a few of these "wierd" laws while on a fishing trip up north. Wasnt sure how wide spread they were...
  15. First of all you need the proper setup for frogging. Especially if you are throwing to scum/pads. I use 30# braid (no stretch is key when froggin') and a medium/heavy, fast action rod. Cast, and when your frog hits the water, dont start your retrieve right away...let it sit for 5-10 secs. Sometimes the bass will hear/feel it spash down and it may take a while to locate it. If there is no explosion then start with a quick pop of the rod on semi-slack line. The line needs to be semi-slack before, and right after the rod "pop". This will make your frog "walk" in open water (float side to side). Do this all the way back to the boat/shore. Mix it up to...pop pop pause...pop pause...etc. As far as colors I mainly use white. If the water is clear get a realistic frog like KVD Sexy Frog. they are pricey but well made and worth it. Now as far as setting the hook, that will take some practice. Each bass (IMHO) that hits your frog will do so in a unique way. Sometimes they will hit your frog just to stun it and then circle back for the kill. When this happens you need to let it sit. KEEP YOUR EYE IN THE FROG!! Only set if you see your frog go under of feel pressure. Sometimes the bass will jump right out of the water and NAIL your frog. When this happens...again....what until you feel the pressure on the other end. Some people say count to three but is bad advice. Alot of my catches on froggin have been with a split second hook set. Some scent will help the fish hold on just a bit longer to aid in hook sets. Hope this helps. Good luck. WARNING: FROGGING IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE AND TIME/THOUGHT CONSUMING!!!
  16. First thing you need to do is check your local fishing laws. Like the number of hooks per line/lure etc... Ive heard of places that consider a treble hook as three hooks and only allow one barbed hook per line. So cranks are out of the question at these places.
  17. Hmm. I guess this is a "fishing report" since it was moved here. Although it wasnt really a question/report on fish or fishing, but a question about vegetation...oh well.
  18. When reading posts from pompous people (ie ego maniacs), its best to disregard (ie ignore) the whole comment...
  19. A close friend of mine and myself have been making an hour trip to these old sand mines recently, mainly for the awesome topwater action. Specifically, Scum Frogs. The first time we went there, there was a nice mat of all kinds of veggies mixed together with little open pockets now and then, starting at the shore and out 20-40ft in some places. With 2ft of gin clear water at shore and dropping quickly in spots to 20' or more. It was frogging heaven! The problem is almost all of the scum is gone. The water is low and stirred up alot. The banks are somewhat steep so Im guessing the clarity issues are from run off... As far as the disappearing veggies, Im not sure. Maybe a combo of hot temps and no rain?? Will my new found paradise bounce back this season?
  20. Never understood switching... Im right handed. So I use a Left Handed BC. Its common sense. You dont wear a baseball glove on your right hand to catch with and then take it off to throw with do you?? I was at a local tackle shop a while back and I was talking to the clerk about left handed BC'S, and he tells me he hates them. I said "Why is that"? He says "Cause Im Left-Handed". We both had a good laugh because we both know how bass ackwards they are. A right-handed model simply means the crank is on the right. Therefore it is for Leftys. You ought to be casting, imparting action on the lure and setting the hook with your dominant hand. Of course some of you guys were taught to do the switch saw people on T.V. do it when you were learning. Thats all fine, but would you recommend the "switch" to a person just learning to use a BC? I highly doubt it. In my humble opinion, its inefficient and something that people just think is "normal" because so many do it...
  21. I agree. Clean it. If you dont eat Bass then give it away... It didnt survive.
  22. I have alot of luck just slowly retrieving the Bama Craw along the bottom, stopping occasionally...
  23. Teach him the Palomar. Problem solved.
