  1. Bass are sight feeders. Use something bright (in muddy water) WITH scent AND vibration. This will appeal to all their predatory senses. Black is always a good color too because of the contrast to the surroundings.
  2. I use 30# Fireline Fusion. This stuff is crazy tuff. Ill staighten out a superline hook when I wrap my hand in a bandana and pull SUPER hard. Ive had nicks and frays in it and its still like a steel choker. I used to use 832 but its overpriced IMO. After reading some studies on the actual breaking point of many lines I decided to go with Fireline. Ill use this line for applications where I need braid for the rest of my life.
  3. St. Croix Mojo Bass rod. Get the "spinnerbait" rod. Its seven ft mh fast action. I use it for frogging, spinnerbaits and most of my topwater baits. Very sensitive yet strong enough to fish heavy cover. I got mine for $99 at Gander Mountain.
  4. I was fishing a squarebill crank and hooked a blugill that was about twice the size of the crank. He was HUNGRY!!
  5. I read a post before about tricks with JJ's. Someone recommended keeping your empty bottles and pouring half of the new bottle into the old ones and you wont have the leaking problem. Im gonna try this when I order more. I DO like the dying properties alot even if the scent isnt "magical"...
  6. But I did get some JJ's recently. Havent noticed any difference in the amount of strikes...We'll see what happens after the turnover. I sure hope its not all just hype.
  7. I always thought the best attractant was the right lure thrown right at their nose! :-D
  8. Nice post but I think you need to look into spell check or read your post's before submitting them...
  9. Thx Jay I may have to get one of those too. lol. Darn tackle monkey!
  10. Good stuff. Thx fellas! Im getting an iobee. Im not giving up on this!
  11. Thx. Seen it. Still cant figure out why it only walks to one side....guess I just need more practice.
  12. I ordered a few crashers from TW and used them for the first time yesterday. Ive never been the best at walking the dog with a frog but these are suppose to be very easy to walk, like a Spook. Not true. They do the same thing my other frogs do. When I pop the rod (yes I pop it on slack line and return it to slack) it mostly just "walks" to one side over and over, instead of walking back and forth... FYI. I use a MH rod with fast action and braided line. Should my line be out of the water? Does it matter which way I pop (up,down or side)? Can I have too much slack? Ive tried fast, slow and everything I can think of. Its starting to frustrate me so I figured I better ask the guys on BR and Im sure to get some good advice. THX for any tips! BTW as the frog gets closer to me it seems to become easier to walk. Im talking like ten ft away. Thats why I was wondering if it had something to do with my line being all the way out of the water, but I doubt it...
  13. Two snags in two casts always get an "OH C'MON!!!!" from me.
  14. Midwest here also. Ive already noticed more bass in the shallows. Topwater is finally producing some decent bass instead of the occasional dink. BTW its raining cats and dogs here in the Quad Cities right now. The temps are dropping and Im feeling the itch to FISH! If it keeps raining and we get rained out here at work then Ill give you one guess what Im doing when I leave...
  15. There's nothing you can do when the fish misses the frog. I wouldn't even count that as a missed hookup. Now if he had it, and someone sets too soon/late, then it's totally the anglers fault.
  16. Got some nice ones at West Lake on a Rage Tail Shad. First time using it. Its a nice "buzzbait type" plastic.
  17. lol...overrated?!? Spoken by someone who obviously hasnt gotten the hang of them. I rarely miss a hit on a frog anymore. I miss just as many bites on my soft plastics (which is what I use 90% of the time). If your not getting bites then your probably in the wrong spot or using it at the wrong time. Most people that use a frog in the right way will tell you that is the most exiting way to catch a bass. I wouldnt call a specific lure or technique (that is proven to be productive) "overrated", just because you dont have the skill/patience to master it...
  18. Imo Frogs (topwater) are the most exciting way to bass fish. I just love that loud "baratone pop" that a big bass' mouth makes when he inhales your frog. I swear I can usually judge how big the bass is, without seeing it, just by the sound his/her mouth makes when hitting a topwater lure. I also love when they completely jump out of the water and you get to see their whole body flying through the air...even if my frog isnt in his mouth. I will frog fish until my old frail bones are too weak to horse one in with 10#'s of weeds covering the fish. :-)
  19. Next time you catch it, eat it, or relocate it...
  20. I think that vibration and sound are MUCH more important at night than color is. Light must bounce off the lure to allow us/fish to see color. Without light all lures will just be a greyish or black color.
  21. I just had a great night of fishing last night from 7-10:30. It was a New Moon Phase which has ALWAYS been the most productive for me. I was throwing a Rage Tail Shad for a topwater and a 5" tube to work the bottom. It was my first time using the shad and it got me the biggest fish of the night that exploded right at my feet and scared the bejesus outa me! lol
