That was so helpful. I really like the sound of this and even though i just got a brand new rod and reel, i want another, a frog setup. How much did the set up cost you?

Just got a new Spinning rod setup. The reel is 8-20 lb line, and the rod is 5'6 medium heavy. Any suggestions with what type of line, what brand, and what weight? I will probably use it for bass, maybe some pike, but i needed to be a travel rod so it will be used for all types of baits, from spinners to cranks, even if its not its strong suit.

I have a 5'6 Shimano Clarus. Its medium heavy. I put a Phlueger President model *35. When i balance it on my finger at the top of the base of the spinning reel where it meets the rod, it leans forward with the tip almost hitting the ground. When i have it in my hand, it seems to feel very top or front heavy, however you would put that.

hey guys, i just bought a short MH rod. (5'6-5'7) so i put a bigger reel on it given the fact that its a MH rod. The balance is off and it bugs me, so is there and good looking homemade ways of balancing a rod? or do i need to go buy a rod balance system from BPS or Cabelas. And if so how do you put one of those on your rod?

planned on spooling up with suffix performance braid but is there an other option that i should consider??

I think im gonna go with the Shimano that they have on sale for $39, its the Clarus. Im still considering a cabelas rod for the future though.

That sounds like a good experience and a lot of fun. I dont think i have the time and am up for that challenge yet. I was going to build a fly rod but decided not to. I plan to in the future too, and may have to use one of the rod blanks you suggested.

Thanks man!i just got a baitcaster so i wanted something that i can bring with me biking. Seems like it will be a good set up, going with suffix performance braid if you have any input on that.

mind me asking why? because the rod weight is 10-20

yeah but getting it in a MH would allow me to fish whatever i want given the fact that i will be biking through the countryside not knowing what im going to fish. if i need a thinner line for something like trout than i can use a leader and its an xtra fast rod so more sensitive small fish bites i will still be able to feel. i think that that is what im going to do unless you have something better. thanks for pointing out the president reel too. should i get the one that holds 145 of 8 or 195 of 10?

Im going to get a pfleuger president and plan on getting a rod from 5'8 to 6' and in a 2 piece for easy travel. Suggestions for the rod within 30-80 dollars?

Rememebr i can go up to 80. And i haven't ever had a Pflueger so how do they compare to like a shimano?

I am looking for a rod that is on the shorter side to fish tight situations and will travel nice when its on my back. But i dont know if an IM6 will be strong enough.

I really like the looks of that rod. i would probably have to get the 2 piece 6 foot. I have a Berkley Cherrywood that i have had for 7 years and im very happy with it. I will definitly put this on the top of my list. And what about a reel? i dont think i want a guide series.
