Fishing Options In Thick Weeds
im pretty sure the walleyes have been biting some of the texas rigged worms i had on a pole for catching bass.. ive been losing them as theyve been getting bitten clean off.. any way to tie a steel leader to a texas rigged worm and a sliding bullet sinker?

No More Treble Hooks For Me, Im Getting Rid Of All Of Mine
well, single hooks are working fine, even without anything covering the hook the snags are much, much tamer and i caught a few pike today on them.. the only one i lost was the one that bit the front of the spoon, not even a treble would have done much.. i actually watched him bite it as it was about 4 feet away and near the surface when he did it... though.. i must say the single hook really wasnt much better in terms of damage to the fish.. one fish was hooked in the side, mid-length of the body under the skin, it wasnt fatal, but did some damage.. the other pike got it in the back of its throat, actually pierced the artery in its neck.. he bled out and died but he was well over the 26^ legal limit, so he became lunch

A Pile Of Turds On The Shore? From What?
well, these geese were doing their own thing at the other end of the lake this morning.. hopefully scaring the fish my way.. but as a flock flew overhead they all proceeded to poop and pee, nearly hitting me with the entire payload of a flock of geese.. glad i was 10 feet further to the left of them

Baitcasting Vs. Spinning Reels. Which One Is Better?
i used to fish spinning reels exclusively.. then i got a baitcaster about 3 weeks ago and there are differences in the way you do a lot of things.. biggest issue is getting the hang of casting them backlash free, but after that i prefer the way it balances and casts, and i like being able to put my thumb on the spool for things like hook sets, or adding more drag, but i have an all metal round baitcaster and i really love the sheer power provided by this workhorse of a reel

Loop In End Of Line For Tying Leaders?
looks like you did what i did in replacing the treble hooks on your spoon with singles.. too many snags with trebles, but yeah.. ill just use a swivel... my dad fishes with me and he fishes for bass with a texas rigged worm, and it seems a couple fish have bitten his line off a couple times.. obviously, off-set hooks and a bag of plastic worms are cheap, but im thinking ill probably just keep the steel leader on there for all my fishing in this lake

Fishing Options In Thick Weeds
i tried out three lures today.. a weedless spoon, was in fact weedless, never got hung up or snagged.. but i didnt catch anything with it.. also used a hollow body frog, no snags, got a bite but wasnt able to set the hook, i need to look into the proper technique in using these.. and lastly, the weedless jig head which worked very well, but again, no bites.. i did replace all my treble hooks on my normal spoons with single hooks and that alone made a huge difference in snagging weeds and i got three fish today with that.. all 26"+ northern pikes.. one i hooked by the skin, pealed some of the skin back.. another got away as he took the lure right in front of me, i watched him do it and he bit onto it from the front of the spoon so the hook, even if it was a treble never would have went into the mouth.. and the third was a normal hook set, landed him, unfortunately the single hook went deep in the back of the mouth.. ended up tearing the artery in its neck.. it bled out and died.. but i kept it and had lunch

Loop In End Of Line For Tying Leaders?
the point was to quickly remove the leader, as i want to have lures already tied to monofilament leaders i would tie a loop into, and quickly attach to the main line.. since most my fishing includes toothed fish like walleye and pike i just kept a steel leader on today

Loop In End Of Line For Tying Leaders?
ok then, so since im not passing through any eyes.. just swivel the braid.. see what i was thinking was something like the loop to loop connection fly fisherman use to temporarily attach leaders

Loop In End Of Line For Tying Leaders?
i used an alberto knot for backing to braid, but im looking to maybe put a loop in to tie leaders because what i wanted to do was take some of the 20lb test i have left over, tie on the lures, rigs, onto their individual pieces of monofilament and have a way to quickly detach the leader to add other ones with lures already set up on them.. but i wasnt sure if i wanted to tie a swivel to the end of the braid or not, and for the length of leader, i dont intend on it passing through the eyes, itll only be about 12" sections on the very end of the line on another note, i love this alberto not i used to tie the backing to the braid, i get the impression its the strongest, most low profile knot i could have used

No More Treble Hooks For Me, Im Getting Rid Of All Of Mine
could i texas-rig a grub to an off-set hook trailer on a spoon, or would it mess up the action of that spoon?

Fishing Options In Thick Weeds
i got a few things when i went to the tackle shop.. i got one weedless spoon to try out, i got a weedless weighted jig head, a grub, went with brighter colors, i bought a couple non-weedless jig heads labeled for use with walleyes to use with the grubs as well, and i bought a hollow body frog with the two hooks along the side of the body.. supposed to be weedless too, but the hooks should not only be beside the frog, but out of the water and above the weeds... as for my normal spoons i took the trebles off and put singles on (couldnt find weedless singles though, but anything is better than trebles in weeds)... also, one of the trebles was bent beyond repair anyway because of a really bad snag i got with it.. i thought i snagged a log, but nope, about 15lb cluser of seaweed question... should i put off-set hooks on my spoons and perhaps add a texas-rigged grub to them?... would this work or wood it mess up the action of the spoon?

Loop In End Of Line For Tying Leaders?
i just put braided on my line.. and to conserve the braided as much as possible, im going to add mono leaders to the end of it.. but what id like to do is tie a small loop in the end of the braided, then tie the leaders to that so when i change leaders i can preserve the braided loop and tie another length of mono on.. or tie lengths of mono to a swivel i can hook onto this loop so, what could i tie for a loop in the end of the braided thatll suit this purpose well in terms of knots, or am i better off just tying a swivel on and tie the leader material into loops to hook onto the swivel? i decided to opt out of using a double uni for the braided to mono backing knot, and decided to try the alberto knot instead, but would like another solution to adding leaders easily without cutting the braided

Abu Garcia Ambassadeur
i actually got a 5600C4 a few weeks ago, its now my primary, if not my sole reel.. the size is perfect, not too small, not too big (any thinner and my thumb wouldnt fit between the frame to touch the spool), plenty of line, and incredibly strong, not only have i been catching a lot of bass with it, ive been catching a lot of pike too

Fishing Options In Thick Weeds
could someone post some photos of some common, useful weedless walleye jig setups?.. id like to get an idea of what sort of jigs i should look into for walleye, also, keep in mind i fish from shore, so no vertical jigging

Fishing Options In Thick Weeds
so, francho, your suggestion it seems is to replace my spoons with weedless spoons, or atleast add some to my tackle box.. i might just do that, for now, im going to add weedless single hooks to my spoons.. but might start collecting more of the weedless varieties too.. also, i notice a lot of fishermen put emphasis on jig head lures, adding trailers, skirts, spinners, and really customizing their jigs much in a way a fly fisherman would tie his own flies.. and it seems theres a type of jig for any fish.. im going to focus a lot of efforts here in experimenting with targeting certain species with certain jigs.. weedless jigs of course

Fishing At Night?.. Lighting?
well, i got the two headlamps in the mail today.. im glad i ordered the two because i could try each one on.. see what i liked, and i really believe the energizer 7-LED to be a superior lamp to the rayovac sportsman, but more-so the rayovac head band had to be stretched to its limits to fit my massive size 8 1/8 hat size head, while the energizer fit comfortably with room to spare... i have people who fish for me, they can use the rayovac just fine as their heads arent so big.. so im glad i got one of each instead of two of the same only to find out the rayovac was a tad too small

No More Treble Hooks For Me, Im Getting Rid Of All Of Mine
im going to start using topwaters more, but these pike LOVE those spoons, so im still removing the trebles, going to replace them with weedless singles, and probably start buying more of the weedless style spoons.. besides.. i actually destroyed the treble hook on my five of diamonds spoon, got snagged so bad, if i had anything less than 20lb test it would have broken the line as i pulled in about 15lbs of weeds.. so.. for ethical reasons for not doing too much damage to fish im likely releasing, people have suggested barbless treble hooks... what is better for holding a fish.. a barbless treble, or a barbed single?.. granted, i cant use any trebles in these weeds, but for future reference id be interested to know

Id Like To Make A Tackle Box Out Of An Ammo Can
beats throwing everything into the glove box of my truck.. and since im going to be getting the motorcycle as my primary means of transportation for all seasons the separate boxes packed inside the ammo can will allow me to transport easier

Id Like To Make A Tackle Box Out Of An Ammo Can
you ever see those clear plastic "tackle kits".. they have a handle on them, compartments, lids.. well the compartmentalized containers theyre in are only about 2" thick.. inside a 20mm ammo can i could pack a number of these boxes inside, categorized by the type of fishing im doing, and just take these smaller boxes out from the inside of the ammo can / saddlebags http://www.amazon.com/Plano-Molding-Adjustable-Compartment-Connectable/dp/B0063KD0HQ/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1374762678&sr=8-10&keywords=stowaway+plano 20mm ammo can dimensions 17 3/8 x 7 1/2 x 14 plano stowaway case with handle 14 1/2 x 2 x 11 so i could fit three of these big ones and a decent number of smaller ones inside... probably be better than trying to fit an entire tackle box inside the ammo can, or carrying the ammo can while fishing.. but as the motorcycle is dual sport, and off-road capable i could drive it right up to a lot of the places i fish.. but this would be better than a build in organizer or removable strays as this will keep tackle in their respective compartments while the bike moves around, goes over bumps, etc, allows me to carry a smaller, lighter package to the shore line, and the ammo can offers the external protection from damage

Fishing Options In Thick Weeds
with all of these weeds, and scum on the surface which appear to be seeds from the weeds, should i be going for lighter or darker colors, more vibrant, or more natural?
-
Fishing Options In Thick Weeds
thats what im thinking i might try next... soft frogs in a weedless or texas style rig and also try weedless jig heads and a soft body grub or baitfish trailer
-
Id Like To Make A Tackle Box Out Of An Ammo Can
hmm.. you know what i should do?.. just get those clear plastic compartmented "stowaway" boxes with the lids.. then i can organize different types of lures, or lures i use to target specific fish into their own boxes, or get a large one to use as a tackle box thatll fit inside it, that i can take out

Fishing Options In Thick Weeds
what would you suggest for pike or walleye? these look like great solutions for bass.. but i think what i need to do is learn more about jigs and soft baits as they seem most useful, least expensive, most versatile, and can target a variety of species i should note im relatively new to lure fishing.. currently i have a pack of plastic worms, worm hooks that i use with a bullet sinker in a texas rig style, a five of diamonds spoon and a red and white spoon.. these are basically the only lures i have experience with at this point so im probably missing a lot of basic lures that should be in every tackle box, and i think im really missing out if i dont learn more about jigs and grubs, hollow body frogs, etc
