I am part of the Pflueger posse so me and the 8 other Pflueger freaks here aren't really involved. :-p

6'6" Medium fast St Croix Avid equipped with a new Pflueger purist spinning reel. I also picked up a Fenwick HMG M/MF for crankbait duty.

Ill have to disagree with the notion P-line flouroclear ( or cx for that matter) is too stiff for spinning reels. I have all spinning reels and most of them run both of theses lines in 10 and 12 lb. test with no issues. I don't even use line conditioner. Both of these lines are very supple compared to pure flouro and work great on spinning rigs.

Best quality overall...Purist. Aluminum body, heavy duty bail wire, and better drag. Especially if it can be had for 59 dollars.

The A-rig.... I am not buying a special setup to throw out my arm in 8 hours and catch nothing. That would probably be it. Every year I set a goal to learn a new technique and at least be able to catch a few fish on said technique. This year, I have gotten some Terminator 1/2 oz. grass jigs and 4" twin tail grubs in hopes of getting better at jig fishing.

The Templar is actually a Wal-mart only reel and can still be found new there. It is a solid reel for the money too. But I would say jump on the Purist for 59 dollars. It is packed with goodness at a great price.

Probably....Most of the Pflueger spinning handles are interchangeable on like size reels. Better question might be " Where the hell am I going to get a Pflueger supreme XT handle?" ..... Ask me how I know. :-D

Get a pack of Lunker City Texposers. I haven't looked at another hook in years for plastics.

My St. Croix LTB and the Pflueger patriarch spinning reel. Not only does it feel great and perform well, the blue color finishes on both are nearly identical.

6'8" M/XF St Croix Avid or LTB would be my ideal set-up. As a matter of fact, the 6'8" LTB IS my set-up for t-rigging worms and lizards.

One vote here for the Pflueger Patriarch. Love mine. Light and butter smootg.

As a guy that uses all spinning gear, I like P-line CX. P-line flouroclear works really well too.

I have 2 medalists myself. A 30 and 35 size Both of them are tough as nails and refuse to die. I am considering dropping one off the empire states building next time I am in NYC....I am convinced it would survive!

I actually use Mobil 1 synthetic lithium grease (free at work) And for oil I use a machine oil similar to 2-in-1 oil. Both have worked swimmingly for years!

I am currently using a 6'6" MH/F Premier for my frog/ Jig rod. The SCII Graphite blanks are VERY durable.....That being said I would take care of fishing frogs in extreme slop with a medium power though.

Pflueger Supreme MG can be had on sale or on some sites for under 100 bucks...Great reel. Check out the New Pflueger Purist as well. I just picked one up. It may very well turn out to be the best 80 dollar reel on the market.

Nice to see these state governments have fixed all of their real problems and now have to start thinking of BS to justify their salaries!!!

Usually I spend more on the rod.... But I have some combos that are close to 50/50. I have a St Croix LTB with a Pflueger Patriarch and a Fenwick HMG with a Pflueger supreme...Both of those are close to 50/50, with the rods still both being slightly more. Then I have a St croix premier with a Pflueger Medalist and a St Croix Avid with a Pflueger Purist. Both of those set-ups are a little more lopsided toward the rods. With baitcasting setups, you are going to spend more $ on quality reels than you have to with spinning gear. That is probably why my rods are more than my reels, too.

I fish in North Jersey most of the time. The 5" senko in black has worked for me here.

I would go to Cabelas and get the split grip St Croix Premier that they exclusively carry for about 120 bucks. Another interesting option not mentioned often is the Fenwick HMG. Unlike the USA made Premier, the Fenwick is made in China. However the Rod is very light and has Fuji concept guides with alconite inserts and a Fuji soft touch reel seat. Nice components for a 100 dollar rod.

Ok guys. Decided to start a review thread for this reel since their is still not many reviews of this reel available. Being a Pflueger guy who needed a new reel to slap on my 6'6" M/F Avid, I thought I would be the idiot guinea pig who would buy one without ever evrn seeing one in person...So here goes! Just keep in mind I have not fished this reel yet and won't until spring. I will add to my review then. I purchased the 35 size online. Pfluger always has one aluminum bodied reel in their spinning lineup.The last version was the President XT, and prior to that it was the Medalist. This is the latest, but not "new" by any means. The first thing I noticed is that the body and rotor are almost identical to the President XT.Same lines, made of the same material, same spool design.The only differences visually are a heavier bail wire (ALA Medalist), different trim ring around the handle screw in port (Oddly enough, same ones the Medalist uses), Gray finish instead of burgundy (Hold on, that is the same color gray the Medalist has!), a black spool, and the same redesigned handle/knob assembly as the new President has. It weighs in at 10.3 oz, pretty light when you consider the materials used and the fact that the President XT weighs in at 11.4 oz. in the same size.The Medalist weighed in at a whopping 12.6 oz...but I can't compare as the Medalist is solid aluminum body and rotor, Where as the other 2 have aluminum bodies with graphite rotors. I noticed 2 things when trying to figure out how they saved almost an ounce of weight over the President XT, and I think they are the difference makers in regards to weight reduction. First off is the knob and handle assembly. The knob is smaller than the knob used on the President XT. However, I believe most significant weight savings comes from my further inspection of the spool. The back of the spool is tapered down and thinner in the rear where the port holes are located than the President XTs' spool....Which is a consistant thickness around the entire spool.The inside of the Purists spool is also wrapped in a thin layer of some kind of vinyl or plastic material. Probably to add to the newest "Braid ready spool" marketing ploy I am noticing more of lately. Out of the box it is butter smooth. The bail is the same trusty sure-click bail system Pflueger has used for years. I have owned a President XT and still own 2 Medalists. All of them have been good....The Medalists have been d**n near bullet proof. If this reel performs and is as reliable as the others have been, I should be very happy. Only time will tell. I will be back in Spring to add to this review once I get some time on the water with it.

Penn Captiva spinning reel. I actually passed over the Pflueger President when I started to really get back into fishing. It was in the same price range at 60 dollars. What a POS. The stem flexed every time I caught a fish on it and gears would come out of alignment when reeling it in. The finish would also chip every time I sneezed. Just an absolutely horrible reel that drove me away from Penn forever.
