  1. I'm in Ohio (and I'd assume we fish similar waters) and I use braid for my jig combo. Mainly because of water clarity. Most of the lakes I fish are crazy clear. On the other hand my buddy fishes pretty much only braid, we've both caught very nice fish on jigs. At the end of the day do what is going to give you the most confidence. Which for me, is Sunline Sniper FC
  2. Just a random thought, but I generally fish Lake Erie and I've never seen this much ice before. On all the lakes in fact. Anybody have ideas on what this does to the smallies come spring/summer? Thanks!
  3. Erie, Mogadore, sometimes West Branch. I'd like to find a good inland lake over Mog and WB, haven't been lucky yet lol
  4. 6'6" Abu Veritas and a Revo S. I was really happy with this setup, I pulled some monsters through some thick stuff with no problems at all. Highly recommend it!
  5. Stupid question I am sure but I still need to ask. When I'm looking at all these different rods and reels there is one question I still have. How do I know what's can and cannot fish with these setups? It may sound odd but it does have merit, let me explain. I just purchased a St. Croix avid mainly for smallies and largemouth. We do walleye fish frequently and I'd like to use this for that if possible. But where does it say that's can't use this for salmon fishing as well? I guess my question boils down to this, how I determine what weight fish can be caught with rods, reels and so on? Thank you in advance, and I'm sorry if this is considered common knowledge, I just don't know! Thanks
  6. Thanks everyone for all the input. This gives me a lot to go off of and I think I am going to spend the extra cash on the rod, like many of you have suggested. I still have to definitively decide on the reel but this helped me narrow down to a few. Thank you everyone!
  7. I have looked into the Symetre and I like that a lot as well. Is Shimano kind of the way to go vs. quantum? It seems everyone likes shimano a lot, which is making me seriously consider them. I've always been an Abu guy but I want to try some other brands out. Thanks
  8. Ok I'll look into that. I've been going back and forth between shimano and quantum (I know that's a whole other convo). But it's good to know you like the rod. Thanks for the input
  9. So I have been struggling with this for awhile now. I need a spinning setup but can't quite determine what I want. I do have a budget of around $200 I'd like to stay around if possible, but can go more if people tell me it's worth it. I've been looking at a St. Croix Premier, probably a 6'6" M fast action. Also, I've been looking a the Quantum Accurist PTi spinning reel. I'm not 100% sure on the sizes for these as there is no close store to me that I can go see these. Lastly, I fish Lake Erie smallies a lot and that is what this will be mainly for. Thank you to whoever takes the time to respond to this.
