  1. If you plan on using braid with a leader micros are not the best idea as the knot barely fits through the guides and can actually break them or cause bad backlash's. Also cottonwood fiber is a real pain with the micros. that being said I have 2 veritas, 1 with and 1 without micros and I like the micros way more. You have a lot more sensitivity with the micros I think
  2. I think it's a 5000 with a few tricked out parts
  3. There are a couple of Kistler Helium LTA's on Ebay with full rear grips that would meet your needs, just don't know about the warranty is on them. Great rods, light and sensitive. Might be worth a look
  4. The Cumara's light weight is a nice plus, keeps you fresh all day
  5. Braid: Daiwa Samurai with PP slick8 2cnd Mono: Seagaur Senshi Floro: Still searching for one I like, right now it's Sunline Shooter Floro leader: Any Why is 18# Samurai more expensive then 40# Samurai ??????????
  6. 30# braid if I'm using a crankbait action rod like my Team Daiwa S or 12#-15# mono when I'm using a rod like the Crucial spinnerbait rod witch is a lot stiffer. I almost never use floro for spinnerbaits I don't think I need it as it is a reaction bight. Been using Seagaur Senshi for a while now and like it a lot. Don't get me wrong, Floro has its place for me just not spinnerbaiting.
  7. Gotta be careful with a micro guide rod, I think you break a guide if the line gets loaded up enough. Not to mention it will drive you insane.
  8. And to top it off, the day before I showed him that when you are hopelessly stuck, point the rod at the lure, put your thumb on the spool so it can't move and pull straight back until you break the line with no stress on the rod. But NOOOOOOOO. Local BPS Gave me my choice of Crucials as a replacement since they don't carry the new Cumaras so I took one as a replacement rather then deal with Shimano and I'm gonna make the Brother in law buy me a Cumara, that he will never touch. By the way, this was a spinning rod that he was so bad with and when I handed it to him I didn't look close and thought it was a Carbonlite. Oh well, live and learn. Good fishing all!!!
  9. 1: Watch your brother in law chuck his lure about 30 feet into the trees on shore ( He has to think bass nest in the trees ) 2: After watching him break off lure take pity on him because you can't stand watching him try to tie a knot and hand him one of your rods. 3: Watch him chuck your lure on your rod 30 feet into the trees on shore 4: Watch in amazement as he grabs the rod 2 feet down from the tip and pulls until that little 2 foot section of rod is almost at a 90 degree angle and at the same time realize that you gave him your frickin Cumara and before you can say a word SNAP. 5: Fight every instinct in your body to kill him cuz you can't replace a gen1 Cumara.
  10. Just to confuse you even more Ebay has Kistler Helium LTA's for $114 and Magnesium's for $84 I can tell you the Magnesium is a great rod for that price. I have Mojo's, Premiers, Veritas, Endurance, and Compre's. Endurance is a nice rod, as is the Compre. Mojo's are heavy and not very sensitive. Premiers are a good workhorse rod, I just feel like they are not very ( bass specific ) if you no what I mean. I can't speak for the *** but have read only great things about them. The Magnesium just feels like an expensive rod to me, sensitive, fairly light and well made. Never used the helium but it was a $240 dollar rod
  11. It's some kind of torque that is stressing the reel and not allowing the side plate to open. The Chronarch being an aluminum reel really shouldn't flex but obviously it is. even if the reel seat isn't straight the reel shouldn't flex. So I have to think it is a reel issue
  12. I have the 725cb Nice rod, got it for 109 at TW, casts great just a little dead as far as sensitivity, even for a crankbait rod
  13. Casting or spinning? I picked up a 2000 spinning reel 6 months ago, used but mint for $75 from my local tackle shop.
  14. The MGX can be had for around 260 on Ebay. Add Boca orange seal be arings for 30 bucks and you have an awesome finesse reel. Is the Pixy better? Yeah, maybe a little but it's also $100 more. I have reels from Daiwa, Shimano and Abu and the MGX's cast control is the best I've used. Pitching light lures is not an issue. As for the MGX extreme, think your paying for the spool and handle knobs.
  15. Abu Revo MGX is the perfect finesse casting reel. I have 2 and they can cast light lures with ease. Shimano Core and Daiwa Pixy are also great light weight finesse reels.
  16. I've been using Senshi mono and love it for cranking. The line has an oily feel to it like it was treated with a conditioner from the factory and is super smooth and nicely priced
  17. Samurai, hands down. With a floro leader on my spinning
  18. It's all about line diameter and memory. Most floro has more line memory than braid, causing more friction when casting and loss of distance. That being said braid of equal diameter to floro should cast a little farther. As for colored braids I think they are fine unless the water is fairly clear. I fish for smallies in lake Michigan and sometimes they wont touch anything with any color braid unless I use a 5 foot floro leader although largies aren't quite as picky
  19. I have 2, use them for everything. I have had no problems what so ever with them. I know some people have had problems with the cast control breaking but I think if you check the screw on the side of the reel and make sure it stays tight you are all good. I have several other high dollar reels and the Mgx out casts them all. Straight into 20 mph wind I can cast as hard as I want with no worry's . Change out the bearings to BOCA orange seals and it gets even better. Enjoy
  20. I agree with the Alpha/Sol. The lexa is just not on the same level as the other reels. I've used a lot of Daiwa's and the lower priced reels just don't measure up. Not saying they are bad reels, just not on the same par. Find a used Alpha/Sol and put bearings in it and a carbon fiber handle on it and you should be happy
  21. I have the Avid 6'6 ml xf and it is a great rod but a little to light for most bass fishing. If you can find last years shimano cumara in 6'8 m at a clearance price that's a fantastic finnese rod
