What Model Abu Ambassedeur Is This?

Featured Replies

I recently brought this ambassedeur off ebay.

it came with the owners manual.

It has a few features that I haven't seen on other ambassedeurs.

1 the handle is black not an Ivory color.

2 the endcaps are different.

3 NOWHERE on this reel do I see the model number

4 a sticker used to indicate the model no. I want to track down a correct repro.

It is on Imgur.

Thanks.

I think it's a 5000  with a few tricked out parts

I believe that's a 5000. There are whole websites devoted to vintage tackle and even Ambassedeurs alone. You might get an expert opinion there.

I've got one that looks exactly like yours, mine is a 5000. No tricked out parts on mine, all stock.

Looks like a mid seventies model.

They had flat endcaps, and black handles.

All parts look correct to me too.

(5000)

Nice older reel.

I figured it was a 5000, However it did not have parts similar to My friends 72 Ambassadeur 5000.

Did the ambassedeur 5000 have stickers on the side plates?

It looks like the 5000 that I have.

There are a lot of "Frankenreels" out there since almost all Ambassadeur parts are interchangeable.  The factory also often used different style drag stars, handles and such.   The sideplates don't have the model number engraved in it which can indicate they were either replaced or it is in fact a "Frankenreel".   I suspect that with the red frame it is a 5000.  Have you gotten into its guts yet?  If it has bushings its a 5000, if the end cap cast control knobs have ball bearings under them its a 5000C.  Check out realsreels to learn more or if you really need to know there is a guy named Ken on mikesreelrepair's forum who can tell you. Also call Purefishing in Iowa and give them the foot number, they will be able to tell you.

I agree. It's a 5000. Going by the foot number, it's from 1979. There's a site here: http://www.lurelore.com/freds/abu.html#section4 that has a lot of info on older Ambassadeurs.

Nice reel!
