Hours on Fish Finder
Understandable. You truck probably has a warranty like xx miles or 5 years whatever comes first. Is this an issue with fish finders? It would suck to have one bust after 300 hours and have a manufacturer say the warranty is good till 285. I guess I don't get it. I never sold/bought a tv, phone or any other electronics and indicated the hours of use on it.

Hours on Fish Finder
I've been looking around the used market at fish finders and see a lot of people listing the hours on the unit. Is this number of any relevance? Do they spontaneously combust at a certain number, I don't get it.

If money was no object....
Hate to derail the thread but you bring up a good point. I just counted 42 some odd separate rod companies on TW. How many of them are rolling their own blanks? I have no idea but I doubt all of them. Which leads to the question what are you really getting when you purchase a rod? With a lot of these companies probably nothing more than a decal.

Paddle Tail Swimbaits
Don't have a favorite but a money minnow or swimming fluke on a jig head or weighted hook isn't half bad.

Rod power choice
I fish open water 99.9% of the time. Lure weight and rod tip dictate what I use. Many times I will go over the suggested rating.

Shimano Stradic FK: 1000 or 2500?
No doubt the 1000 size is powerful enough. However in the previous stradic fj line the 1000 had a graphite body. I'd look into it and see if this is the case with the fk as well. For that kind of money I want metal or some space age carbon stuff.

1/8 - 1/4 jig blank
I don't fish "jigs" per say but I fish a lot of football jigs with hula grubs and other assorted plastics. For me its not so much the weight of the head but the weight of the attached plastic. The two weights I use the most are 1/8 and 1/4. I throw 1/8 plus heavy plastic on a medium power. 1/4 plus heavy plastic onmedium power, this has worked very well but I am thinking a building a medium heavy rod, mainly because I am thinking is buying more 3/8-1/2 jig/tube heads. 1/8 and 1/4 plus light plastic on medium light There are lots of good rod blanks out there pick the brand/best deal and I'm sure you would be happy. I'd look for a rod that is a medium or light medium heavy. Maybe a medium St Croix or 3 power mag bass blank.

keep getting snagged
Like others have said its the name of the game. I've lost 4 jigs in 4 casts. Super frustrating but if your not throwing them to loose them you aren't going to catch as many fish. I refuse to pay more than 30 cents a jig because I loose so many.

Looking for a short spinning rod with a short butt
I'd poke around St.Croix's Website. A 6 or 6'6 medium light might be what your looking for.

Twist Lock Type Hooks
Recently purchased a package of owner twist lock hooks at DSG for a whopping 2 cents. Package was mislabeled whahoooo!! Anyways I think I am going to like these. Normally they are very expensive about a buck a piece. I was looking into making my own and wanted to know if anyone else does and what they use. I was thinking of using a mustad 32886NPBN or mustand 91768NPBN hooks and the owner twist lock piece. Any advice on what hook might be better or a completely different hook that would work?(I will be using these for fluke/senko/Havoc Sickfish type baits) Are the owner twist center lock twist pieces better than the other type you can purchase? Looking for recommendations. Thank you.

what was your first lure
I'm pretty sure it was a firetiger rapala of some type. I caught a small pike on it, on paradox lake in the Adirondacks. Was probably 8 or 9 and have a fond memory watching my dad curse as he tried to get it out of that pikes mouth. Good times.

Which hand gun for home defense?
Thanks for the detailed response. That's probably more in line with an actual scenario. Sorry if I offended you. My thoughts on the subject are more in line with Rw and jbsoonerfan. Im slowly backing away from the gun forum.
