Burnt out on Senkos/Ikas, thoughts on the yamamoto kreatures and rant?
Hey all, its been a while since i posted..anyhow been plugging along with senkos/ikas the last couple years, almost exclusively.. so Im going to make the dramatic jump to the kreature, Ive had issues with the IKA's hooking up, and they seem too taught on even a ewg 5/0 hook..I am never satisfied with the profile on the hook even though i get alot of takes(and misses), has anyone tried the ikas with more of a wire hook? Im guessing i can swim the kreature more??

The Senko has to be the most lethal lure ever made
I know we all have our favorites, but in the past 6 weeks I have fished nothing but senkos/kinami flashes. I did mix in alternatives here and there, with notably less luck. Im a Massachusetts Basser and I had the best 6 weeks of bass fishing in my life. Catching both quantity and quality I wish I knew about Senkos earlier. I fished mainly 4" senkos smoke/grape baby bass flashes and some 5" black blue fleck.weightless on a 1/0 ewg hook I also had luck on some pearl colored ones(dont recall the correct name) in the span of 3 weeks I got one 5lbs and one 6lbs off the same downed peice of timber on a small local pond. 6lbs being my personal best for a largemouth.( i have only caught 3lm in total over 5lbs) I'd like to thank the excellent anglers of this site which has indeed made me a better angler. sorry for the rant,im just pumped and this season has been better than I ever thought possible! The one downfall to the senko isnt cost nor durability, they are well worth imho the price of admission, the single downfall is now i dont have any faith in any other lure and feel like im wasting time! weightless, slackline, absolutely lethal! edit: i did some river sm fishing with them and they were also effective there as well, but im green on the river and sometimes its really tough for me to pick up takes in a current with these.

unconventional baits/lures
i never do it, but ive always for the fun of it wanted to try some swedish fish and gummiworms as bait, and i even entertained throwing on a twizzler pull and peel for a stick bait. weve all seen lures made out of bottle caps and what have you, have you ever had luck on anything that wasnt manufactured specifically to be a lure or bait? if so, what was it?

Rods/reels?
i think there are diminished returns after a certain point. right now, im fishing a bps woo daves extreme rod, it is the most expensive rod ive owned. im used to fishing rods in the $30 range(lightning rods for the most part) and i can definitely tell a difference in terms of rod action and comfort and build quality, and it seems that i am landing a much higher percent of fish on it...now that could all be in my head :-X perhaps it, like anything else is a confidence thing. as for a reel, i havent owned a ton of quality reels, my primary reel is a quantum catalyst pti, i have been very happy with $30 abu's and $40 daiwas. i have also been very unhappy with some of the other budget reels. i strongly reccomend going to a store and playing with some before you buy. as for whether itll make you a better fisherman? i dont know, ive been outfished by friends using $35 combos, conversely ive caught some of my biggest bass on some real junk. all that aside, it depends on how much you are going to use it, if you fish everyday, or a few times a week.i think the case can very easily be made for higher end stuff.

roadwarrior, do you kow where i ca find the yozuri ultra soft? bps doesnt seem to carry it. i might be splitting hairs however, because ive come to be very confident in the strength of the hybrid. im a little partial to sticking to yozuri line of "lines"

thanks for the reply. usually im fishing soft structure in very shallow water ponds(6-13ft) not much in the way of hard stuff (save for the occasional toothy pike or pickerel)

forum noob, fishing rogue, line "balance" questions
hey all, currently i fish yozuri 8lb smoke and 12/15lb clear and have for the last 2 yrs or so.(primarily on spinning) i love the strength of it, but lately i've been really missing the softness of mono..the yozuri at times seems almost metallic. i throw worms primarily, and im looking for something more supple, that comes off the reel nice and is "quieter" on retrieve, i havent bought mono since some spiderwire ez years ago, and some regular stren that seemed very brittle(it was off the shelf from walmart) ive also had issues with the spiderwire ez. im looking for a mono i guess, thats very strong and soft, comes off the reel nice. any reccomendations? thanks!
