forum noob, fishing rogue, line "balance" questions

Featured Replies

hey all, currently i fish yozuri 8lb smoke and 12/15lb clear and have for the last 2 yrs or so.(primarily on spinning)

i love the strength of it, but lately i've been really missing the softness of mono..the yozuri at times seems almost metallic.

i throw worms primarily, and im looking for something more supple, that comes off the reel nice and is "quieter" on retrieve, i havent bought mono since some spiderwire ez years ago, and some regular stren that seemed very brittle(it was off the shelf from walmart)  ive also had issues with the spiderwire ez.

im looking for a mono i guess, thats very strong and soft, comes off the reel nice.

any reccomendations?

thanks!

Welcome aboard!

The answer to your question is simple:  Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft.

This is a different line than the original formula Hybrid. (I think there is a lower fluorocarbon component).

In use, Ultra Soft has virtually no memory. I would also suggest spooling up #6 (11.9 lb test) on your spinning tackle. The strength of #6 is about the same as #8, but you will find it handles better.

You should get paid by Yo Zuri for all your recomendations ;D When I finally buy some more line it WILL be the Ultra soft on all your recomendations

True, the #6 and #8 are only rated 0.1 lb difference in break strength, however the difference in diameter makes the #6 a much better behaved and quieter line.

If you are looking to chang brands or just try something different, I have 2 other suggestions.  Spiderwire xxx mono in the green box is really soft and manageable but not as heavily overrated as most lines so buy it by diameter (or go up by one # rating)

The other is Suffix elite (red package) is a great line... it is strong, pretty abrasion resisitant and very manageable.  (I like the suffix better than the spiderwire.)

thanks for the reply.

usually im fishing soft structure in very shallow water ponds(6-13ft)

not much in the way of hard stuff (save for the occasional toothy pike or pickerel)

I like the Sufix Elite as well.  Strong, handles well, and holds a knot.  That said I'm going to give Yo-Zuri Hybrid US a try just to see what all the fuss is about (just for you RW ;D)

I hope you will take the time to post a detailed report, whether you like it or what you find that you do not care for.

I'll be watching!   8-)

I certainly will.  I just have to order the stuff.  No stores in my area carry the US.  It's so easy to just go and pick up a spool of Sufix at any of the stores near me.

roadwarrior, do you kow where i ca find the yozuri ultra soft?

bps doesnt seem to carry it.

i might be splitting hairs however, because ive come to be very confident in the strength of the hybrid.

im a little partial to sticking to yozuri line of "lines"

;)
