  1. One of the main places I fish is a pond which is about 2 acres. It is kinda like what you are saying. For over 1 year, I didnt catch anything, then one day I caught a 2 pounder and it just grew after that. I think you need to find the right lure, most of all. In this pond, early on, I was lucky and found the right lure early on. Nothing compared to it. It was almost every cast, but when I lost the lure, it took a long time to find the right lure again. You need to be specific. You can try the same exact lure, but if it is a different color or something minor like that, they will not even touch it. Then you need to find the right spot. In this pond, they like water 2-5 inches deep on the other bank. Try really deep, on the surface, or along banks.
  2. I tried them out today at this farm pond today and I saw a bass jump on the other side. I casted to it a couple times but it didnt hit it until it got right within 2 inches of the other shore. It was like a small explosion, but when I set the hook, the knot came out of the one spot on the bare hook. I have had that happen a few times over the years, but the bigger the hook, the bigger the space. If you have never noticed this, look at a big hook, not a lure, and look at the eye. I caught it a few minutes later on a spinner, and it was about 1 pound.
  3. I usually fish solo or with my dad, but sometimes I go with a partner. I would like a partner who is just as good as me, so then sometimes we can both learn something, and you won't feel bad for out fishing him or mad because he catches more fish than you.

  5. I usually will let it sit a few seconds, pop it, and just keep doing that until it is in. You can try different things. Reel it in much faster or slower, dont pop it, just reel it in as fast as you can, I caught my first bass on a popper that way.
  6. Yeah, I have another post about those snake lure's.
  7. I have never had much success with them, but I would think you would mainly work them along shorlines and slop. Never would have thought of frogs in open water. I would just try twitching them in these two places but try working them faster in open water.
  8. Thank's, I will probably try that before the end of the week.
  9. I have seen snakes in the pond, but never in the water. The only time I have ever used these snakes was in a REALLY small pond with small bass, so I really could not expect anything there.
  10. It is good that you have fishing to remember your dad by. Easy to do and you can always do it. You need to think about the good times and try to make the time your in as good as it can be.
  11. It could have been a a 3 lb(or more) Hybrid. I have seen largemouths attack topwater lures over 3/4 their size. It is not as uncommon as you think that a fish will eat something almost as big as itself. One time, when I was a kid, we were fishing and I left a rod over the water witch had a 4-6 inch Rapala Husky Jerk on it. The lure was just out of the water and a few minutes later, we came back and there was a one inch sunny dangling from one of the hooks! It had jumped out of the water to attack something 5 times it's size!
  12. Yamamoto Senko worms and Gitzit tube lures. Both are the only lures I have ever seen that 99% of the time catch fish.
  13. corn and bread for bait may not be a bad idea, but no weight or float of any kind. The thing is as wary as possible. It will swim by 50 baited hooks with meal worms and float every day and never look at them. This is probably the most elusive fish I have ever set out after. What about carp bait? I have some that smells like strawberry's and some that smell like Mullberry's. Has anybody ever gotten any experience with grass carp? All I know is that they mainly eat vegetation and have bony mouths.
  14. They are all solid colors Yes those are them. Would you recommend these for this type of fishing. The type of bass in the pond are the ones in my gallery. All the bass in my gallery were caught in this pond.
  15. Has anyone here heard of these snake lures? They are long and surface lure's and look just like snakes. They kinda' fold up when still and they stretch out and go back to there original position when you jerk them. I have them but forget what they are called. Does anyone know if they would work well in a little farm pond where the normal sized bass is 1-3 lbs but get up to 8-10 lbs? The lures are around a foot or more in length.
  16. I cast upstream and let it drift down while fly fishing but with spinners and crankbait's I cast downstream and bring it up.
  17. I try to stick to shade or go fishing where there is usually a lot of trees to sit under. I also always have ice cold water on me. Slow moving soft plastics usually work for me on really hot days.
  18. They really do work. Like I said, I caught my 10-11 lb pb on a blue one. Good luck next sunday. I swear, the best lures are the $2 Wal-Mart lures.
  19. I usually use Gary Yamamoto's but one time, while using a light rod with a little panfish crankbait in the middle of the day(it was probably over 95 degrees) nothing worked all day, but when I used that, I caught a 6 lb bass.
  20. Being that so many kids fish it, they refuse to take meal worms. It usually comes in for the bread they throw in, but if I use bread on the bottom, catfish and sunny's, on the surface and you get sunny's. Every time you throw a fly in, a sunny would take it before the carp even saw it.
  21. I have, but I didnt see anything that went in depth enough for this. Everything need's to be perfect. Thank-you though. Anything else?
  22. Best lures ever! Caught my pb on a tube. Work in all situtations, and catch fish when others dont.
  23. Hey everyone. There is this lake by me, more like a pond, that has tons of bass, sunny's, and catfish, but only 1 grass carp in it. It was put in there to keep the weed's down. The fish is at least 40 lbs and I dont think anybody has ever caught it. During the summer, the place is overrun with kids, but 1 out of every 100 kids actually fishes there, the rest are learning. All that is ever pulled out of there is panfish. You are only allowed to fish half the lake, the rest is used for other attractions. How can I catch this fish? I think it has been hooked twice over the years, it might have been landed once. The tackle I would be using is a medium-heavy action spinning rod with suffix 30lb braided line and Tro Kar hooks. What bait, where should I cast, past experience? All would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  24. Hi everyone! I am new here. I like to fish in small farm ponds and lakes. Interested in finding more about the sport.
