  1. Can't go wrong with the Veritas for the money. Got a 7' MH/F and I throw pretty much everything you mentioned in the OP with it.
  2. Right, which is why I bought 50#. I just didn't know if I would be busting fish's mouths with higher lb test. How do I accurately set the drag so I don't rip the lures out every time?
  3. I have two Citica G's, with one being my cranking reel. I'm not head over heels for them compared to my other reels, but I do like them. If you can afford it I would go with the Curado but I don't think you can go wrong with the Citica.

Black/Blue Jig w/ Craw trailer is numero uno. Watermelon/black fleck senko is a close second. Pretty much always have those two tied on.
  5. Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep the 50#
  6. Gotcha. Thanks guys!
  7. If they are the same mechanically, there are some Lews Tournament reels up in the flea market you might want to check out.
  8. I currently have a 7.1 Citica spooled with 50lb braid. I fish some weeds/slop but nothing super thick. I want the ability to throw a frog but want a set up that will be able to throw jigs and soft plastics as well (which is what I will throw more often). Is 50lb braid too much? Or should I lighten up the line? Thanks in advance.
  9. I have a Lews TSS on a Veritas and love it. I don't think you can go wrong with either though. The new revo's are looking pretty awesome and that S would match real nice like on a Veritas.
  10. I only throw pumpkin, brown and black with black being most frequent. I like strands of different colors in there too to give the fish something to look at. May not be that important but it makes me feel good about myself. I've been using a sweet and kinky beaver as a trailer but just recently picked up some bags of pit boss plastics and I have to say, the action on those is awesome. I usually match the colors but I think you can add a black trailer to brown and green jigs as well. I wouldn't over think it and just see what the fish want. If it doesn't work, try something else. Just be ready, jigs can catch some monsters.
  11. +1 for whatever is comfortable. I'm right handed but reel left handed. I can use right handed but prefer not to. I feel like I can reel in a fish just as well with my left hand as the right but holding the rod in my right hand is way more comfortable. Bottom line, if you're catching fish, keep doing it.
  12. It doesn't look like the 755 is reduced like the others (695, 706, 726). You should still get the 15% off though
  13. Also, heres a topic all about jig color
  14. Been using black and blue strike king arkie head jig with a black/blue sweet beaver as a trailer and caught some really nice fish. I just put in an order to Northstar for some flip n swim and black series jigs so we'll see if this answer changes
  15. Ditto rockchalk. Application has everything to do with what line to choose. Fluoro will be good for a lot of applications, but again, it depends on what and where you're throwing. Just make sure you pay attention to what knots you're tying if you use fluoro because some can greatly compromise the knot strength. If you're looking for something all around, I use 12# Yo Zuri.
  16. The Tournament SS is awesome for 150 if you're still looking at a Lew's. You get both centrifugal and magnetic breaks and is very smooth. You can find them cheaper too if you shop around. Mine is 6.4.1 on a MH Veritas which I tie a lot of jigs onto. It works great for me.
  17. black/blue 1/2oz arkie jig w/ black/blue craw trailer 5in watermelon/black fleck senko 1.5 strike king in sexy shad
  18. I've heard way better things about the Winch than the MG. If you were to go with a Lew's I'd get a Speed Spool or Tournament Speed Spool. I have the Tournament SS and I love it. For 140-160 that gives you about 100 for a rod.

All jigs, all soft plastics and anything in sexy shad
  20. True dat! Find out what you like, what works, etc. No sense in spending money on a set up that sounds good on paper but winds up sitting on the deck or in the closet.
  21. While this is a great rod, I think that its probably not the ideal rod for cranking. The MH veritas is stiff compared a lot of other MH rod, plus the XF action. A lot of people, including me, prefer a softer rod for treble hooks. I have the same rod and use it mostly for jigs and t rigs and spinners. I might throw lipless cranks on it occasionally but thats it as far as cranks go. With that said, I agree with Okoboji. Your first casting set up will feel different and will take a little time to get used to. Just have patience and get comfortable with it because a baitcaster is a great tool to have in your arsenal.
