Don't worry about what is on the blank saying use this or that for a specific purpose. I have the spinnerbait mojo rod and don't like it for spinnerbaits at all but i do like it for frogs and jigs. I prefer my 6'6" MHF jig/worm rod for spinnerbaits. Figure out the power and action you want and go with that. Drop shot is generlaly going to be a 7' M or ML F rod. Crankbait rods you are looking for a moderate action. I am not a lipless crank fisherman but many posts on here indicate people like the Fast action rods for this technique when ripping out of the grass. I will also echo the Avid or for the same blank and a few bucks cheaper you can go with the rage series.

Yeah i always forget you aren't changing the gearing with a longer handle just changing the amount of effort needed to turn per crank. That is definitely a high inches per turn.

Looks good. I wonder if the high speed is due to what looks like a longer handle. Longer handle=equals a larger turn=more revolutions of the spool per crank. I will be interested to see some reports on it's performance.

I was watching a salt water show and one of the boats was using them and all they were raving about them.....of course then i saw the rod was also a sponsor of the show I woudl give one a whirl if i was in teh market for a new rod but i am good with my rod arsenal for now....

Whichever you want. You will have more options for a RH retrieve reel in baitcasters but the LH are becoming more available. I am in the cast with the right and reel with the left for all of my reels which includes BC, spinning and fly reels.

Braid is going to give you the most instant force being applied to your bait as far as line goes. Then the longer the cast the more important having a a good backbone on your rod comes into play. You also have to take into consideration that al onger cast has more of a chance to have slack in the system and if your mainline floats this will change the angle of the line in relation to the water and bait. There is also a time gap on a longe cast that must be considered. For reaction baits it may not be as much a concern but when fishing jigs or other non moving styles of presentations the more line out, the longer it takes for you to determine that yeah that was a hit and then subsequently set the hook.

Wow-4-5 foot waves is pretty extreme. Where did you run in to those types of conditions?

Slow sinking spiders are killers....the less movement you give the fly the better in my experience.

Depends on the boat really. I have a commander and i took out the low seat and solely use the captain's perch. I stand a lot of the time but if it is windy it makes it a little harder to keep my position. Having a raised seat position makes a world of difference and doesn't makes standing quite as big of a deal as the days of old when you were sitting at the level of the water.

Tenkara is a lot of fun. I would go with a 3wt for panfish myself. A 4 wt also will work but a 5wt i feel is to heavy. And by to heavy it doesn't really affect the catching but it is kind of like if you were pitching a jig with a MH or H rod and caught a bluegill. Yeah it works but it isn't as much fun as if you had caught him on an ultralight. Also remember that the weight of the fly rod is as much a reflection on the size of flies you are looking to throw as it is the size of the fish. I have landed quite a few 20"+ brown trout, smallmouth and 15+lb carp on my 4 wt.

I would put it right back in the box so it is still NIB in about 6 months when you get a chance to get out and use it given you ahve a new baby in the house

I am looking at a trailer next year myself.....i like the yakima rack n roll but i am gonan go with the www.spacetrailers.com instead. Best of both worlds and more versatile as far as use goes. It is more than a yakima but it is very comparable if you want to get a rocketbox or something similar for your gear. I also like that i can use it as a utility trailer when needed as well.... Anyways sorry for the continuous thread hijacking

yeah i saw your video and i know it can be done. Loading any boat is more abotu balance than weight anyways. It is al ittle trickier now that i have a wrangler and it is pretty tall to get a boat up there and it will get even more so once i get bigger tires next year

to much boat for me....not to mention the price tag of 700 more than the native and 30lbs of weight kind of scares me and cartopping it can't be fun but i bet i would manage if i had to or it would give me a reason to get a trailer

without a doubt....add in hobie and you have the three musketeers of crazy I think next year though i will get back on board with native nad get myself a mariner for flatwater and most likely replace my coosa i just sold with another one.....it is to hard to keep a kayak for more than 2-3 seasons for me....and i have only been paddling for three years lol

Darren- I think you met Drew gregory not Chad hoover in designing the coosa....

What storage do you like better? To me in a SINK, even a somewhat non-conventional style as the kilroy getting to gear is not as easy as a SOT. I am like darren, give me a SOT or a completely open hybrid boat. Not having paddled the kilroy i would make a guess that standing would be a little easier at first due to your feet being below the water line but i have stood in my old coosa for a few years with no issues. It is just a different feeling. If i had any concerns about rougher water i would go SOT and especially if you might take it on a float trip or two as getting in and out of SOT is considerably easier.

I know i already posted but when i said synthetic i was referring to the neoprene handles on teh rage and extreme rods....i wasn't sold on it at first but after fishing my rage rods for about a year now, i really like them and wouldn't hesitate to get another. Handle materials to me are low down on the scale. If they fit my hand well that is the key.
