  1. I would keep an eye out for used boats and go from there. If you continue to save up as you are looking, you also may have your budget increased as well. Don't forget to factor in a PFD and paddle into your budget as well.
  2. I have and use a C-Tug on my ATAK 140 and it does a great job. It seems to work well on lots of kayaks and may be worth looking into as well. Also make sure whatever you decide on that it will fit inside the kayak for storage purposes while fishing.
  3. aluminum is heavy. My paddle is a hybrid, carbon handle and resin blades, good balance of both worlds and not terribly heavy or pricey. Think it ran about 150..manta ray hybrid. As far as batteries go, i have no idea so i'll let others help there.
  4. I live in VA and have a frog tied on pretty much from april to october and i got the dobyns fury HF rod to use for fros and it has done a great job. I wouldn't want a heavier power myself
  5. Caught this guy at diascund reservoir after the long paddle (5 miles) to the lilly pad field. 5lb 9oz
  6. I have a dobyns fury 734C ( i think anyways) paired with an older citicaE model that is my dedicated frog set up. I use it only for frogs because i throw it with braid and the other things i would use a heavy power rod on I prefer flouro or copolymer.
  7. definitely user error. Gotta be a line watcher and set away as noted already.
  8. if water has been up and down as you say (has been here too), your normal spots, especially if they are gravelly may not be good spots anymore. The rivers around here change year to year for sure and what was a good spot before may just be an ok spot now and vice versa.
  9. never knew that. not something i worry about too much in my kayak lol
  10. there are speeding laws on lakes other than no wake areas? i had no idea
  11. Go to a different dealer and see if their service department is any better. You don't have to go to any specific dealership to service your vehicle for any type of warranty work. Turbos also don't just blow out like that nor should they. The one in my mini cooper all4s is factory and has over 80k miles on it with no issues. I know you should always change the oil on schedule if not more frequently and make sure coolant is good too as turbos get very hot and you need everything working and cooling and lubricating as it should to prevent problems. Good luck...i know whenever my turbo goes out i am looking at it as an opportunity to upgrade
  12. depends on the type of topwater. me personally i don't use leaders and i don't use snaps except for crank baits. I also like braid direct on on some topwater as it allows for longer casts and more positive hooklets at long distance.
  13. all i do is add line and a rod and have at it...
  14. I am pretty sure that is a bowfin and maybe he is lipping it between the teeth? I know i wouldn't even try to do that but either way, if it was a 10lb bowfin no way would he be lipping it.
  15. A lot of the guys i see set up for electric only and plastic boats they put the motor up front and use a rudder in the back. I have also seen plenty of boats with a motor up front and the back. the back they use to get to their spots and the front they use while fishing. Definitely be cognizant of weight limitations though as mentioned earlier.
  16. Did you take the time to show him how to unhook a gut hooked fish so next time he may be able to get it out himself?
  17. i prefer 6lb diameter braid on my spinning setups that aren't finesse related and on that I go with 6lb yozuri
  18. i am sure there is some sort of rule in regard to this but with metadata you can easily see when a pic was taken. If the tourney directors can't mine that metadata then i would be real hesitant to fish in their tournaments anyways.
  19. I think position and placement is more important than action. try not to cast your line over where a fish may be waiting in ambush. Also don't let it sit too long because if they get a good look they may not bite but some days they will. So in essence, try whatever you want because certain days they want it worked fast and others slow. I also prefer a popping hollow body frog 95% of the time, seems to do better for me.
  20. I am not but i have friend who is and he said that the test was way harder than he thought it would be. I want to say he didn't pass the first time but did on the second. Good luck!!
  21. and this is exactly why companies are going away from long term warranties, people lying to take advantage.
  22. I don't see it an unethical myself. If it was then nobody would need home inspectors. I had a friend just a few weeks ago go look at a house and their agent said the owners weren't accepting any offers contingent on home inspections because they just got one done prior to listing and fixed al the problems. They gave them a copy of the inspection and there were a lot of issues of water damage, mold etc...that were allegedly repaired. To me that is shady....why would any homeowner not allow an inspection? it doesn't cost them anything other than not being home for a few hours. Unless of course they are worried about something being found. A house is a huge purchase and should not be taken lightly so a home inspection is a normal thing and I wouldn't' expect anything to be disclosed to me as problems in the house.
  23. This has no bearing on the boater leaving the scene etc...but this kayaker was going to be in a world of hurt sooner rather than later. To be on the water in the dark, where there is boat traffic with nothing for anyone to be able to see them is asking for trouble and well, he got it.
  24. I just picked up a Dobyns Fury 703C for use as a jog rod and it has done beautifully so far. I also picked up the rode mentioned above, 735 for frogs and it works great for that but i didn't like it for jigs. 703C would fit the bill for your use, especially if you are throwing a frog in sparse cover situations.
  25. stability and a good river or lake boat are usually two different things. No boat will excel at both lakes and rivers with decent current. Will they work for both, sure. Paddle a bunch of boats and see hat you think. Standing up to cast swimbaits or whatever isn't an issue anymore as there are lots of options out there. I was sitting in my ATAK 140 today while frog fishing and had a blow up. Without hesitation or even a second thought i stood straight up and finished the fight only to sit down while trying to lip the fish. Now I will say the ATAK 140 is a great flatwater boat but for smaller flows it leaves a lot to be desired but it does work. River boats need maneuverability and lake boats need good tracking, no boat has both at the top level.
