Weather
Under normal conditions I'm going fishing regardless. Things that will keep me from going are steady winds above 20, thunderstorms, a cold front below 50. Florida bass are very sensitive to sudden changes to their environment, much more so then northern bass. They will get lock jaw ! Since I'm not forced to go fish, I can pick my conditions to avoid.

Winter Waiting
In South Florida it is never too cold to fish. In fact some of the best fishing of the year is in late winter and early spring. 200 fish for 6 hours is a real possibility. As water levels drop the fish become concentrated in the deeper pockets.

Holey Lands Us27, Palm Beach, Florida
Sunday 10/19/14, 7:00/1:00PM, Bluebird Sky, water light stain, no current, light winds NE, water temp 80*, water level low. Went out this morning with Steve Johnson. We ran down the east canal to the first pump station and started fishing east. We had the canal to ourselves early, and covered about a mile of the canal. Steve started catching right away and I kept playing with a new bait, until the pain was unbearable. Then I switched back to a sticko and started an FSU comeback. We caught fish on both banks and had several doubles. I tried a wacky trick worm with little action, most bass were caught on Flukes and sticko's. Game warden came bye and said others were having similar results today. It was truly beautiful day, very relaxing and lots of bass. We ended up with 70 bass and a big mudder, that destroyed my hook. It was a Chamber of Commerce Day!

Who Fished Today?
I bank fished from 5:00 PM tp 7:00PM in Weston Florida just west of Fort Lauderdale. This was the most beautiful evenings in 6 months with low humidity and comfortable temps, and very little wind. I caught 6 black bass and two peacocks. Largest bass was in the three pound range. All fish caught were very tight to cover, and relatively shallow.. The peacocks were caught in the Lilly Pads and hit as the lure passes over the pads and reentered the water. All were caught on zoom watermelon red speed worms, and 4" bass pro stickos, Okeechobee color. Water was clear with no movement at the culvert pipes. I saw fish schooling out in deep water all over the lake, but I could not cast far enough to get in the action. I think it was peacocks chasing bait fish.

Which Fishing Stop Has Your Loyalty?
Bass pro for me too. We have a big store here with all the products I use. I like to touch and feel any product I buy, especially rods and reels, so I don't buy on line very often. I am old school about that.

One Piece Of Advice...
I would have them fish plastics, and I would give them two pieces of advice. 1).Be a line watcher, and 2).Slow down. If you do those two things you will catch fish under many types of conditions.

Your Significant Other Fish?
The wife isn't getting up early to catch a fish. She does like it when I bring pictures home. I don't go to the mall either, she brings home stuff. She likes that too!!!

Holiday Park 10/12
If its the path off to the south west, years ago it narrowed and it made it hard to turn around. I have been in that one. Just don't get into a tight situation.

Wind From The East Fish Bite Least. Why?
I too have heard that cattle lying on the ground, just turn around and go home. I have tested it several times and it held up. Cows were down and fishing was tough. Something about barometric pressure, or just lazy cows!!!!! Lol!

What Music Do You Listen To While Fishing?
With Pandora and blue tooth speakers the possibilities are endless. Mainly 70's and 80's music and country. I just enjoy music and I do what I enjoy. But not loud!

Are Ewg Hooks The Best Thing To Use?
I use EWG Gama thin wire hooks 90% of the time. The thin wire seems to penetrate better then the thicker ones. I don't have problems with them bending unless I hook a Bowfin. Hook ups are not a problem.

Fizzing Bass?
- When Do You Stop?
I live west of Fort Lauderdale, 5 miles from the everglades. The best fishing all year is Jan, Feb, March with 100 to 200 fish a day a real possibility. Temps in the high 60's and 70's and no humidity. So bring on winter, we love it down here!!!!- Odd Things That Bass Spit Up
From the above post, It just goes to show that bass are wolves of the water. Years ago I watch a duck with about 10 little ducklings swim from the bank I was fishing. All of a sudden there was an explosion and one less little duck. When your small you put your life in danger any time you enter the water. There are many things that will eat you. Just yesterday I caught a 12 inch bass and after removing my senko I noticed something sticking out of its throat. With my pliers I pulled out a 8 inch piece of a water snake. The whole snake was probably as big as the fish.- When There's Fog
Does fog effect fishing? The answer is most definitely! 1). Don't run the boat unless you absolutely have too. 2). If you have too run, run slow! 3). Don't think because your running slow, the other guy is too. (A little story.) One early morning before first light my son and I went to L67 in the middle of the Everglades from SR 41. This is a long 33 mile, wide canal, through the middle of the Everglades. There was real heavy fog that day so we went real slow for about 4 miles to our spot. You can't see more then 30 feet in any direction. We hear off in the distance a big bass boat running the canal from the south west wide open. Then I hear another one running wide open from the north east and Holiday Park. I tell my son to move our boat as far into the weeds as he can get it, and out of the canal. The collision speed for these two jerks could easily be 120 MPH. For 5 minutes we can hear the two boats getting closer and loader and no one is slowing down. This was going to get ugly. They were both running the middle of the canal and collision was immanent. Thank God one guy was paying close attention, and swerved his boat hard right and ended up into 30 yards of sawgrass and partially up the steep canal bank. A head on collision at that speed would have probably resulted in 4 deaths. We would have been witness to a horrible tragedy. If there is heavy fog I now sit at the dock until it lifts. You never know who running that other big boat with a 250 HP engine. They don't give an intelligence test when they hand the driver the key. Does fog effect fishing the answer is yes, most definitely yes!!!!- Alligator Alley, Mm39 North Side
10/11/14, Alligator Alley MM39 north side, 8:00 - 11:00 AM, Blue Bird Skies, water temp 84*, stained, water level high, wind east 10 - 15. Went out this morning with Steve Johnson. We got a late start and it was dead still to start the day. I started throwing a hollow body frog with no interest back in the pads. I switched to a senko and picked up a long skinny bass in the 3 pound range. This guy did not look healthy. Picked up a few more chunks. Something strange happened today. I caught a 12 inch bass and while removing the senko I noticed what looked like another senko sticking out of its throat. I got my pliers and pulled out a 9 inch section of a partially eaten water snake. The snake had to be as long as the fish when whole. It makes you realize how prolific killers these guys are. Like a little wolf pack. The Southside canal is totally blocked with floating cabbage for at least a mile, just west of the MM 38 bridge. It must be bunching up at the weir down the canal. There is a lot more blowing in from the east with these steady winds. We finished with 6 bass for the morning. There were several chunks in the 3 pound range. We had the canal totally to ourselves, and beautiful weather. The wind to our backs put us in stealth mode all day. Easy fishing! I want to give a shout out to an old friend and a long time fishing and hunting partner Pat Burns of Miami. He is a professional boxing trainer and his fighter Jermaine Taylor won the Middle Weight Championship for the second time in his long career the other night. Way to go Pat!!!!! ^- Rainy Days
Over the years I have fished many times in the rain. I have found that a light to medium rain shower often excite the fish and makes them more aggressive. Here in Florida a real heavy rain seems to do just the opposite. A gully washer often puts the bass in a funky mood. Our Florida strain bass are very sensitive to sudden changes to their environment. Sudden changes often effect the PH levels of the water and it takes hours for them to adjust. A sudden cold front followed by clean skies really drives them to an inactive mood. Northern strain bass are not as sensitive and seem to tolerate these changes better, and are more likely to eat after a storm.- Always Ready To Fish?
I am lucky I have about 8 man made lakes within five minutes of the house. These lakes are public property that have mowed banks and mitigation areas throughout for breeding wildlife. They are all deep clear water lakes with lots of lily pad areas. When I get home from work, I pick a lake and I'm bank fishing in five minutes. I never leave rods in the truck, its just too hot down here. On weekends I hit the everglades in the boat. All spots are connected by culvert pipes to the everglades system, and loads of bass. Its a great location if you love to bass fish.- Discussion Of "the Raptor Effect" By Dr. Howard Wright
