Buying Costas on ebay?
The biggest thing about getting costas on E-Bay. They have to fit your face, and a lot of costa's don't feel right for me. Go to a good store and try on everyone you can find until you find the right ones for you. Then you know what your looking for. I have the Permit model in glass green and love them. I have had them for probably 6 years and they are good as new. The frames are super tough. Good luck!

How do you get your fix?
I live in south Florida, so the fishing never stops for long. The only thing that keeps me off the water is wind. More then 15 constant keeps the boat in the garage. I then hit one of the eight lakes that surround my neighborhood. I just fish from the bank. At least 250 to 300 days a year fishing.

Tongue hooked a fish, TONS of blood
I once caught a nice bass with half the gill rakers completely detached half way down one side of the mouth. It was an old injury, and that fish was doing well. I released her again and she swam off strong. A little blood does not always mean death. If she does die she will be consumed by the food chain. Others organisms will thrive from her!

What kind of boat were you in? That could have been a nightmare. At least it was cool, not many skeeters.

Lox Road Ramps, Saturday, 1/20/18
Lox Road Ramps Saturday 1/20/18 first light/9:30 Water Temp 60* Cloudy wind N 5-10 Went to Lox with Steve this morning. We started throwing frogs and fast moving top water. This didn't work. It wasn't long before we were both throwing plastics slow through the grass. Almost immediately we were getting bites, and the skunk was out of the boat. They want it crawling along the bottom with a few subtle shakes and then pause. The water temp dropped 7* since last weekend, so the fishing should get better as the day went on and the light penetrated the grass beds. Around 9:00 I got a call from my 92 year old dad's nurse that he refused to take his meds. The trip was over and I was off to the home. Its always an adventure when they get up in the 90's. We finished early with 16 caught, 4 in the 3 pound range. Both Steve and I caught our share of bass. We caught them on flukes, stick-os, u-tails, beavers, and rage craws. It was great while it lasted. I think the afternoon bite would have been good. A fun day with a good friend. T

World record Java Barb caught in Florida
I young boy caught a world record 9.9lb Java Barb in a small, clear. fresh water lake in Palm City Florida. The fish with its permit shaped body, small mouth, and large scales, was weighted, measured, and a picture taken. It put up a hell of a fight before being released back into the lake. The boy and his father had no idea of what type of fish he caught, but knew it was something special. After investigating, it was apparent they had a world record fish. The boy said, he knows where it lives, and is on a mission to catch it again. When you fish in Florida anything is possible. We have so many thriving exotics that everyday is an adventure.

Alligator alley water levels
Great job! Its good to hear the Alley is responding. My friend went to 41 Saturday, but out the north side, around the weir and out to the Indian res. He caught a few nice ones, but not the numbers you caught. Looking for current is always a good thing. They position for an easy meal. Congrats again brother.

Enormous size differences.
That was a great read! Page 109, supports the date of late 1950's for the first organized movement of Florida Strain out of their native territory and to other states. Thank you for the read, I love this stuff!

Enormous size differences.
The information came from the FWC no Florida Strain exports until 1955, whether you want to believe it or not!
-
Enormous size differences.
No, not without man's help. 150 mile separation. After 1955 they could be anywhere they can survive the environment. I have already clearly explained my position on Perry's bass!
-
Enormous size differences.
The comment was made because someone indicated that Perry fish was Florida Strain and that's not the case. No imports in 1932, and no exit from Florida until 1955, well after Perry's catch.
-
Enormous size differences.
I agree with everything said in that post. Perry fish was caught in 1932 and no Florida Strain there then. The movement of Florida Strain began in 1955 according to FWC. Florida strain are not native to Georgia.

I would check your intel on Florida Strain Bass. Trained Biological experts, and not Bubba in the boat.

Vista View
Vista View 5:00-6:15 Wind N 15 steady Water clear 67* Pre front conditions. Went to Vista View tonight for an hour of pre-front fishing. Went to one of my favorite spots and never moved my feet one time. The bite was deep but steady at the drop-off in about 10 foot of water. I fished a stick-o the entire time casting to deep water, letting it settle and then quick short jerks and long pauses. The bite usually came after the short jerks and as the bait settled back down. There was wind blown current in the area and bass were in the vicinity waiting for bait to blow in. I caught 7 bass and a few misses using this technique. As the sun set, I felt a solid hit, and then the line began to move off deep. Setting the hook I had a nice 21.5 inch solid bass, over 5 lbs. Finished the day as the sun went down. Another day in paradise!

Florida Strain bass are not found that far north naturally. FWC said no fish were exported until 1955 well after Perry's fish was caught. Perry fish was big, and a freak of nature. Freaks of nature happen and are rare in all life forms. In recent years it is impossible to tell where people have taken the greatest bass population, The Florida Strain. But not in 1932!!!!!! That fish was a freak and always will be the greatest naturally occurring fish caught without human interference.

Enormous size differences.
I agree with everything said in the previous post, for the normal bass population. But all throughout time, there have been isolated freaks of nature, that don't follow the normal standards set forth by the normal population. This is something that occurs from malfunctioning glands in the body. Humans and every other living organism have been subject to abnormal giant syndrome. The Perry bass could be an example of this condition, and most likely a northern strain gone supersized. This is something not found in the normal population, but a rare malfunction. I happens in humans, and all other living organisms. It is very rare, and the Perry fish could very well be a product of this condition. It was not caused by genes, food supply, environment or any other factor other then a hyperactive bodily function found only in these freaks of nature. That is why we have 7'6" Chinese basketball players, 7' women conceived from normal size parents, Bears that almost double the normal adult size and weight, ancient human skeleton that are way off the charts. It is a something that is rare, but happens. The Perry bass is probably a northern freak of nature, and that's why the record stood as long as it did. Now can scientists and biologists recreate fish the size of this record freak. The answer is yes, and have been doing it for years, by transporting genetic big fish, like Florida bass. Feeding them a rick food supply of farm raised fish, that have no natural fear of predatory bass, and putting them in a restricted catch and release environment. These immigrant imports will grow to record size. Is this normal, NO. Can science do more to stimulate growth YES, but is this normal NO! The Perry fish was not a transport, was not a Florida Strain, was not spoon feed trout or crayfish, and was out there making a living for its own, with no help from science or anything else. If it was anything, it was a freak of nature, and nothing else! It was a legit record fish, all others are simply engineered!

New to miramar/pembroke are
I live close to Markham Park and it is always tough fishing for me in open areas. The best luck I've had, is around the park's culvert pipes, where the road goes over the water. If there is current flowing, it can be real good on the slack side. You used to be able to go up on the levee on the west side of the park, from the south west corner. From there you could fish the bombing range on the sawgrass side, wherever there was opening in the sawgrass fields. There were lots of bass in there. Make sure you wear leather boots, there are snakes. I used to explore a lot when I was younger.

Enormous size differences.
There have been giants all throughout history, as far back as ancient biblical times, in all life forms. It just happens, although rare.
-
Enormous size differences.
You have obviously never heard of a 7'6" Chinese basketball player. Never say never my friend!
-
Enormous size differences.
There is no way to tell for sure, but its at least a 50/50 shot its not a Florida Strain.
-
Enormous size differences.
It was most likely not even a Florida Stain Bass since they are not naturally found that far north, and in 1932 no one was transporting bass. If they caught it they killed it!

239Fish, what ramp did you put in on? Mm 30, mm35, mm39, mm41? I thought I saw you at Lox Saturday.

Enormous size differences.
Not only do they have Florida Strain bass transplanted, but aquarium conditions, catch and release only rules, spoon fed trout that were farm raised with no fear of predictors, and offered up for sacrifice several times a year. Put this all together and you can see why bass get big. But I have heard they may stop the feeding process, reductions in water quality from run-off. Things may be changing!!!
