  1. So I set out to get a snakehead today, and I was very successful in my quest! And now she-who-must-be-obeyed and I have full bellies :-D I first tried some frogs, and believe I hooked a snakehead judging by the fight it put up, but lost it mid fight. Then, I hooked another one, and it sliced my shad swim fluke in half (I only had one frog with me)! Then the bite switched to all bass, but I was determined. So I walked up to a part of my canal where I remember a fish made a huge splash when I walked by there yesterday. I figured it must have been a snakehead spot, so I walked up to the same location, and I casted my fluke. On the 3rd ot 4th cast I pulled out "dinner" :-) Man was I proud of myself! I actually went out today to target a specific fish and I came home with what I wanted! And yea, all the talk of them tasting good is true! Delicious clean white meet! I opted for nugget sized deep fried breaded bites :-) M. P.S. After I took the meet of the bones, I decided to play surgeon... I dissected the guts and discovered two interesting things: 1) remains of what looked like a crawfish and lizards. 2) snakehead had parasited: roundworms; I did some research before consuming, and learned that cooking kills it, and it's a common parasite in fresh water fish. Nevertheless, something to keep in mind when you're catching to eat, make sure you clean your preparation area and wash your hands super good after handling raw meet. Normally I would have not open the guts/belly area, just go straight for the meat but I was curious what it ate, and could't help but notice it was infected with tiny worms that were rolled up in circles, like this: http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh212/lake_vilbig1/VBC%20Misc/Parasites/wormsIMG_0128.jpg Anyways, enjoy and *** the pics of my delicious dinner :-) :-) :-)
  2. Hi Gang! so in recent days I accidentally hooked 3 snakeheads in my canal :-) all three times on a shad swim fluke. Now I hear they're delicious so I would like to catch and eat one! So my questions are: 1) From your experience, what works best on snakeheads in S.FL. canals? I hear they'll attack anything, and was told frogs are good. What's your advice? 2) Deep fried? Grilled? Boiled? What's a good recipe? I prefer deep fried, but if I catch on large enough maybe I can make few different dishes out of it :-) Thanks! M.
  3. My brand new Chronarch 200E6 :-) Only fished it once since I got it but man it casts like a dream!
  4. Hi gang! Picked up a new combo: Shimano Compre + Chronarch. Went out to test it 2 days ago and caught some nice bass! See attached pics! M.
  5. Now I take offense to your last statement! Say what you want, Glock 9mm (17 and 19, but 19 especially) is one of the best 9mm pistols ever built. The simplicity and reliability of it can hardly be matched! now, my XD45 is probably the best double stack .45 ever built! and my SA 1911 is just a beauty, but a flaky at times beauty :-)
  6. BTW, my brother spears he caught on in the canal behind my house last summer (a narrow canal) in Coral Springs :-/
  7. You should really check out "Urban Angler Miami" on FaceBook! This guys specialized in catching peacocks!
  8. Broward has been good to me too in the recent days :-)
  9. Thanks! Now keep in mind that I've only been seriously bass fishing for the last 4-6 months! I've done some ocean fishing, but I don't want to spoil this website with pictures of black tip, nurse, and bonet head shark pictures :-) See, my brother from NJ who's really into Bass fishing visited me last summer and spent 2 months here, we went fishing a lot but mostly ocean fishing. Since he left, I slowly started going fishing on the canals, and it's only been since I caught my personal best by pure accident on a walmart $16 rod combo special (in my profile pic) six months ago that I really got hooked on Bass fishing down here! Since then I purchased 4 bass rods, million lures, etc! now I go every other day, either after work, or on a weekends. It's just so easy here to be a bass fisherman :-P Anyways, that's why I said it was one of my best days since moving here! Few great days I had, in no particular order: taking out my brother and my 4-yo boy to the Keys shark fishing from the beach, we caught 5 or 6 sharks and 4 barracudas in few hours; going out to the everglades swamps with LgMouthGambler few months ago where we caught 20-30 bass in one evening, and TODAY! Today I was all by myself and I didn't expect to catch much. The canal I fished usually didn't produce much, but as i said, today I ventured where no bass fisherman has ventured before... past few almost impenetrable propertie edges (where grass lawn was at a 30 degree slope and I had 2 ft of clearance between the fence and the canal). But I was brave, I pressed on, and it paid off!!! Now as it turns out, my wife's good friend lives in a house right on that canal, so I'm going to ask her if I can walk across her property next time and save myself the trouble of having to walk extra few hundred yards around the canal's edge :-)
  10. LOL!!! Sorry! I couldn't help myself! But today was one of the best days I ever had in the 6 years that I lived in S.FL. :-) I think I know why they call it the fishing capitol of the world, and I realize how lucky I am that I can go fishing EVERY day of the year! Man what a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My heart is still racing!!!!!!!!!!
  11. So I went to a canal near my house, the one I usually fish, but this time two things were different: 1) I went later in the afternoon, from 6 to 7:30pm. 2) I ventured past some properties I never went by before, where the canal opened up and banks had more structure. Attached are the pics of today's hunt! I haven't had this much fun bass fishing in a long while! And all of it within 150 yards of my new house :-D I think I have a new honey hole! Few fish I pulled, though they may not look it from the pics were in the 3lbs range I believe, and they put up a great fight! One went around a sunken log, and I thought I was going to have to cut my line, but after a minute of finessing the line and the fish I pulled it out! It was one of the larger ones! OMG i'm pumped!!! Pulled 8 bass in an hour of fishing! Enjoy the pics! M.
  12. why do you think i sneak out early every other day from work :-)
  13. What town? Maybe I can help if you're near me :-)
  14. One time I was detail stripping my Beretta 92FS Inox, and you know what V shaped twisted spring that puts upward tension on the trigger transfer bar? Yea that one, went "PIIIIIIIIIINNNNGGGGGGG" and into my living room carpet! Fortunately I found it by gently caressing the carpet... in the middle of which my wife walks in, looks at me with a stink eye, and I just replied "Don't ask :-P"
  15. I think that answers the question of "Bass getting conditioned or not?" LOL
  16. Two more pics of the second and third fish from my first post :-)
  17. As the title says, post pics of your biggest catches ever! I'll start:
  18. I got lucky the other day, and caught the same fish twice (1st and 2nd pic in this thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/115187-my-first-bait-caster-rig-results-good-pics-inside/ ). I threw a Shad Swim Fluke with a 1/8oz weight in front right into the bass bed, hooked her once, she got off near land; so i fixed the lure back on the hook, threw it again, and she took it again! this time I rolled her in and took the 2 photos in the thread mentioned. So yea, reactionary strike worked for me :-)
  19. i got a Shimano Citica G6 200 reel and a shimano rod to go with it. i love the combo, just miss the clicking of drag i'm used to from spinning reels...
  20. Or you can pick up Hoppe's 9 gun oil with a nice needle applicator :-)
  21. So I got my first bait caster setup, and the only thing I don't like about it is the drag. I can set it with the drag star, but then I or fish pull the line there's no clicking sound like on spinning reels so I don't know what's going on... are there bait casters that do make this sound when drag goes?
  22. Yes! The ability to control the casting distance is amazing! I can "over cast" and then slow the lure down in mid air and land it exactly where I need it to go! I was casting across a canal yesterday that was maybe 25-30 feel wide, i wanted to land the lure right on the other edge of water, and once I got the hang of it I was able to do it with every cast! another thing i really like is that I can cast at any time regardless of the reel position, what i mean is that on spinning reels you have to have the ring that hold the line in certain place before you can open it up to cast, on a bait caster it's a non issue. Love it!
  23. So I got this bait caster rod and reel from LgMouthGambler (I never used on before in my life!) the other day and finally had some time to test it out today! I love it! I especially love how I can control the cast distance by adjusting how much line goes out, with my thumb! OMG I'm hooked! Of course I bird nested couple of times but managed to untangle the line, but after about 30 minutes of bird nesting or smashing the lure 3 feet from me into the water I finally figured it out LOL :-) Anyways, so I hit the canal near my house, and I caught some nice size fish! I used a swim fluke in shad color, threw it at the bank's edges and pulled a nice 3lbs (at least :-) ) Pics attached. I hooked the same fish twice! First time she got away, and then I casted in the same direction and I pulled it on shore. Later I walked up to the spot I casted over and noticed there was a bass bed there, so I must have aggravated the baby mama into hitting my plastics, twice! Also, I'm starting to understand the advantages of bait casting rigs over spinning rigs... I think I'm hooked on the new setup :-) Overall a great 2 hours out fishing around my neighborhood! See attached pics! Martin
