  1. What size hook would you recommend for a NEKO rig with a 6 inch stick worm? It seems my hook up ratio is not very good and I am new to NEKO rig fishing. Any advice would be appreciated.
  2. Would it be then that if you were using the same size diameter line, you could expect a greater casting distance and faster rate of retrieve with a 3000 as compared to a 2500 spinning reel?
  3. Is there an advantage of using a 30 size spinning reel over a size 20 for example?
  4. Anyone use this reel? What do you think about it? Does it truly fish a fast as they say it does?
  5. What is a good trailer (toad etc.) to use on a 3/8 oz. buzz bait single prop. Size and brand advice appreciated. This is new to me. Thanks.
  6. What size do you use more often 3/8 oz. or 1/2 oz.? No docks to skip here in my area, just casting.
  7. I am looking for a shakeyhead that weighs 5/16 oz. with a 3/0 EWG hook. Any ideas? I know I can get a 3/8 oz. size but would really prefer the 5/16. size with the 3/0 hook.
  8. Would like to purchase a new unit with a 7-9 in. screen. Needs to have side scan, built in mapping, and GPS. Would like to keep it no more than $1000. Any advice or suggestions as to a model or brand available would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Is there any product that exists that you can put on or apply to a metal blade bait to help make the finish more durable? Tired of seeing finish on expensive baits chip or ware of in just a short period of time, or is this something I just have to live with?

I use a lot of blade baits in the fall and winter. Usually in a 1/2 oz. size and have used a few different brands. Does anybody have a preference as to brand or method used to fish them? How about colors?

What size whacky worm hook would you recommend for a 5 to 6 in. stick bait? 1/0 or perhaps 2/0? I have not fished whacky style but would to start. Also, what stick baits do you prefer?
  13. I usually fish them from the back of a "small" bass boat. Due to back problems, I find the need to sit more than I would like to as I fish. I am only about 5 ft. 8in. tall.
  14. What length rod works best for jerk baits?
  15. Anyone use Sunline Shooter Defier Nylon Mono? Not the Armilo but the expensive stuff. What are your opinions of it, and what all can it be used for?
  16. Does anyone use a weedless chatterbait as offered by Z-Man for example or others? If so what, what is your opinion or feelings about them? Thanks.
  17. Thanks for your input thus far. Very seldom would I use a 1/2 oz., but could I with the 705cb if needed?
  18. Would a M/H Mod/Fast crank bait rod such as a Dobyns Champion 705CB (1/4-1oz. rating)" work" for throwing 3/8 oz chatter baits? I realize this might not be the best option out there but I do not have many.
  19. What is your favorite jig trailer for 3/8-1/2 oz. jigs and why? Any particular brand you like?
  20. Navy Vet here again. Forgot to mention in original post that there is not a lot of money difference between the Avid and Champion. Champion is about $30 more.
  21. Considering buying an all-purpose casting rod. Looking at St. Croix Avid seris 7 ft. MH 5/16-3/4 oz. or Dobyns Champion seris MH 1/4-3/4 oz. also 7ft. Would be used primarily for smaller plastics, 3/8 oz. bladed jigs, 1.5 square bills, 1/2 oz blade baits, and some 1/2 oz to 5/8 oz. crankbaits. Any opinions would be appreciated.
  22. Thanks for your input thus far. Got to handle an Legend Tourn. Bass spinning rod a couple of days ago and it did feel tip heavy and somewhat uncomfortable. It was a 6ft. 8in. med. Have that model in an Avid spinning that I have to say felt at least as good if not better.
  23. What is your overall opinion of the St. Croix Legend Tourn. Bass seris of casting rods in general? Not nec. looking for a technique specific. Unable to actually see or handle one in my area.
  24. I own several so called high end rods. I do not want to buy any more because of the price and I do not get to fish near as much as I used to. Have been recently looking at the St. Croix Avid and Avid X line of casting rods. Particularly the 7ft. Medium Fast with a 1/4 to 5/8 lure range rated for 10 to 17 lb. test line. I want to throw buzz baits, 3/8oz. chatter baits, poppers, and lighter cranks such as 1.5 and 2.5 square bills, jerk baits, and DT 10's. Do to think this rod would do what I need? Avid or Avid X? Never used micro guides before. Have an Avid spinning rod I like very much. Like St. Croix rods very much but I have other brands as well. I have both a 6ft. 8in and a 7 ft MH Fast but I do not get very good range at all with those lighter lures with them.
  25. I am new to buzz bait fishing. See a lot of guys fishing them with a toad trailer instead of a skirt. In your opinion, who makes the best buzz bait for that technique? Want one to change out trailers easily as well. Also do I start with 3/8oz. or 1/2 oz.? Have never really fished buzz baits but I would like to get started. Any help would be appreciated. I read that some do not run true.
