  1. Do the Powell 3D Max spinning rods have micro guides?
  2. Has anyone used/have the Powell Max 3-D seris spinning rods? If so, what is your opinion of them? I am looking at the 713 MEF to throw to a max. of 1/2 oz. crank baits. Rod is 7ft. 1in. long and is rated Medium Power 3 Extra Fast at Powell Web site
  3. Has anyone used/have the Powell MAX 3-D seris of spinning rods? If so, what is your opinion of them? I am looking at the 713 MEF to be used to a max. of 1/2 oz. or lighter crank baits baits. Rod is 7ft 1 in. Medium Power 3 1/8 to 1/2 oz. Extra Fast on Powell web site.
  4. Just purchased a new spinning reel( Stradic FJ) and do not want to use braid. Would like to use 8lb. test. What would you recommend given the line manageability, memory etc. associated with spinning reels? Will be used for light cranks tied direct and occasional drop shot.
  5. Any opinions good or bad from some that have used this reel or have used it?
  6. I am considering buying another spinning reel 2500 size or equivalent. I have two Shimano Stradic CI4+ models, but I don't want to spend that much money on this one. Will be used mainly for light crank baits. I would like to keep the price at around $150 max. I really like my Shimanos, but would consider another brand as I am sure there are other quality brands as well. Never hurts to try something new. Have looked at Shimano Saros, but am open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance for your opinions.
  7. I am looking for a 7 ft. or slightly longer spinning rod to be used for small crankbaits 1/4 oz. to a very max.of 1/2 oz on occasion The rod will be fished in fairly open water so the rod does not have to be the sensitive in the world. Will probably use 10 lb. braid with leader. Have a lake near us that is full of white bass and they are a fun break when the largemouth are not cooperating and a "picnic" to catch if they are moving. I have 3 higher dollar spinning rods all M action with a fast taper that throw up to 5/8 oz.. I would like a rod lighter than these for the whites and have been looking at a ML from 1/8 oz. to 3/8 oz. I see several rod rated up to 1/2 oz., but am hesitant to buy a new rod for only 1/8 oz lighter. I would like to keep the cost of the rod around 150 to 180 dollars because I don't I need any more than that for this kind of fishing, plus the rod won't be used that often anyway. Can I through up to 1/2 oz on this rod with shallow running crankbaits? I like Dobyns and St, Croix but price point is hard to match up. Have looked at the Powell 3D Max ML 1/8 oz. to 3/8 oz but don't know much about them. They sell for around 189.00. Any opinions or suggestions would be welcome.
  8. I would really like to buy the jumbo size for plastics etc. Have the large size already. Main problem - nowhere can I find how many pages they come with or where to by extra pages to for these. Can anyone help me? I have even been to the Shimano web site but still no luck.
  9. I am considering buying a Shimano Stradic C14+ spinng reel but have questions on which size to buy. It will be used for throwing crankbaits 1/4 oz up to 1/2 oz., smaller plastics, and some shaky heads. In some of the places I fish, a long cast is very beneficial if not critical and cover is moderate. It will be used with a 7 foot St. Croix Legend spinng rod which is medium power, fast action, and is rated to 5/8 oz.. I have read and seen recently that some guys much prefer a reel with a larger spool with greater line capasity, not only for increased distance on the cast but the ability to pick up line at a faster rate due to the increased spool size as well. Am looking at the 2500 size but see the 3000 is only .2oz. heavier than the 2500 with more line capasity. If there is only .2oz difference in weight it does'nt seem to me there can be a noticeable difference in the physiacal size of the two reels. What size reel would you reccomend for this application? Any truth about the casting distance because of spool size? What size rell do most of you use and why? Already have a 1000, but use it for other applications or would it suffice? Any opinions or suggestions would be be very welcome.
  10. The reels we were using was a 1yr. old Revo Primier and a Core 100. Not sure of his brake settings though. Line was 12lb. Yozuri.
  11. My brother just ordered a Lews BB2 Pro Wide Spool from TW. It is his first Lews and he was a little nervous as he has always used upper end Revos and Shimano. Well, we have had it out a two or three times (old football field) just to see how it might preform. He purchased it for crankbaits from about 1/oz. to 1oz.. Well this thing really surprised me. It threw much farther than the other reels on the same rod with the same weights as mentioned before. Anyone ever used this reel, opinions on it, or Lews in general? Any comments would be appreciated.
  12. I have a buddy who just bought the new Curado I and raves about it thus far. I am interested in all opinions concerning this reel. I have a Shimano Core 50 and a Chronarh C-14 but am getting tired of spending a lot of money. Would be paired with a quality 7 foot crank bait rod rated medium heavy. I plan to fish a lot of baits mostly 1/2 oz (mostly blade baits) which are easy to throw to an occasional 3/8 oz.. The reviews on this reel seem pretty good. I am looking for anyone who has used this reel and has any pros and cons concerning it.
  13. I am asking for opinions on this reel to be used as a general purpose crankbait reel. I have never owned a Lews, but they seem to get a lot of good reviews. Have used Shimano till now . Any problems with smoothness, castibility, excessive backlash, or problems with dialing them in? Was also wonderining if the larger spool may help somewhat with overall casting distance? How about ease of use and durability?
  14. Anyone fish with a Dobyns Champion 733 casting rod M/H fast 1/4 to 3/4 oz.? Would like to know how this rod would funtion for Texas rigs in moderate cover. Will not be using it for large creature baits and generally a 5/16 oz. slip sinker. Also will see some duty with a max. of 3/8oz. jigs with trailer.
  15. My mistake, this is the line that alternates pink and orange in color and is about $30 for a 165 yd. spool at TW. The BMS stands for Bait Marker System.
  16. Any one use Sunline FC Sniper BMS (Japan)? I need a line that is visabale above the water and have been somewhat dissatisfied with other FC I have used. Seems they want to break on the hookset or when casting at times. Lack of abrasion resistace? This situation has happened on more than one brand but particularly Berkley Vanish Transition. The Sunline Sniper BMS is very expensive, but I am willing to pay the price if it does the job.For the 16lb. it is about $30 t0 $40 dollars for a 165 yd. spool .Any thoughts? If in fact it is a quality line, I will use it.
  17. I have read the some guys are opting for casting reels with a larger line capasity and possibly wider spools particularly for throwing crankbaits. These reels along with longer rods are used in combination to optimize casting distances when throwing crankbaits . Any thoughts or experiences as to the advantage using a large or larger line capasity casting reel to achieve this? Any thoughts of reel models that would fit the bill for this?
  18. Don't know if this is the right forum or not, but has anyone ordered from Overtons? If so, how were they to deal with? Would like to order a rod from them but have never done business with them.
  19. Are the Legend Elites the same color as the Legend Extremes or are they different?
  20. Does the Legend Elite spinning have micro type guides at the tip or top section as the Legend Extreme casting does? I hope not. Also, are they finished in forest green, or are they black as in the Avid seris?
  21. Anyone use the St. Croix Legend Elite seris rods? I am considering buying a spinning rod in that seris. Looking for around a 7 footer in M action. Any comments or opinions about that line would be appreciated. How do you think they compare to a DX Dobyns for example?
  22. I'm looking for a spinning rod around 7ft.in length to use for shaky heads, senkos, smaller plastics, and once in a while to throw lighter crankbaits to a max. of 1/2 oz. but usually 3/8 oz. In addition, I'd like to use this same rod in the late fall and winter to walleye jig in open water. Again, with 3/8 to a max. of 1/2 oz. jigs with grub trailers. About $350 is my top range price wise. I am looking at the Dobyns DX703. Does anyone fish this rod and if so, what is your impression? Other suggestions?
  23. Would have given a lot more for the combo than I paid for it but that is all the lady asked for it at the sale! With the 1000 having such a small spool, what size and type of line would you all reccomend?
  24. Thanks for the input thus far and please keep it coming! As I said in the original post, I have done very little shacky head or whacky worm fishing but would like to learn how and do more but always thought a 6 foot 8 inch M power spinning rod was to short and heavy. I'm not a specific equipment technique guy, can't afford to be, just looking for quality gear that will do the job. I fish with a old Navy buddy of mine who has a set-up for everything you can think of and and not cheap stuff either.
  25. Attended a sale the other day and purchased a mint condition St. Croix Avid spinning rod model AVS68MXF one year old rated 3/16 to 5/8 oz.. along with a Shimano Stradic C14 1000 spinning reel still in the original box, also mint condition. Purchased both for $135.00. I have never done a lot of shaky head fishing or whacky worm fishing, Will this combo do the job? Also would like to throw occasional small crankbaits 1/4-3/8 oz.. I know the price was right, but will this particular combo do the job for me or should I look for something else? For the money I might just make it work!
