  1. I haven't fished an Inferno either but I am a huge Powell fan. I've been fishing their max series since they introduced them. Still fishing them today, never had a single problem from any of my 5. Just added my first Max 3D recently and I couldn't be happier. Absolutely fantastic rods, IMHO of course. I've played around with the Inferno in the shop and they feel pretty good. In my opinion you won't be disappointed at all with a Powell rod. Go ahead and bite the bullet and get yourself one!
  2. I've tried most of the popular straight shank hooks (including the Mustad) and I personally have trouble hooking fish on them consistently. My solution is the Owner Twistlock flipping hook. The Zo Wire is very nice because it's a smaller diameter hook but it still has plenty of strength. I haven't looked back since going to this hook. It improved my flipping fishing greatly.
  3. Even though I haven't fished a Chronarch CI4+ I still think I'd lean toward the Scorpion just because they're not being made anymore and the Chronarch will be around a while. I'm a huge fan (like many here) of the 50 size Shimano reels. I know both reels are fantastic and definitely worth getting but I'd definitely get the Scorpion first. As soon as you fish the smaller frame of the Scorpion you'll be "hooked"! They are plenty capable of being an all purpose type of reel in my opinion. They're just great.
  4. I agree with most of the other guys here, I like a faster ratio for jigs. The new high speed Curado I is a very good reel for this.
  5. Granted I've only been out twice with my new Curado I but it casts great IMHO. I cleaned the bearings first and started with two brakes on and the dial set at 3. After a few hours I now have it set with 1 brake and the dial at 2. I have it on a Powell Max 3D 736 CEF frog rod with 50# braid. I've only fished Spro Bronzeye 65's and 5/16 dirty jigs no jack swim jigs with skinny dipper trailers but it casts both of these great.
  6. I'm another Power Pro fan. I usually use 50 and 65 in moss green. I like S8S too, it's only downside is that it frays/abrades much easier than regular PP.
  7. I'm also a big fan of the Owner Hyper Wire rings. The size recommendation of #2, 3, & 4 is spot on as well. With these three sizes you'll have your bases covered for most bass baits. I've also had good luck with Spro rings. I prefer the Owners but as another guy already pointed out its mainly a personal confidence thing. I've never had any type of failure with either brand. I've had failures from crappie cheap rings that come on a lot of baits these days but never any after switching them out for one of these two.
  8. Spro Lucky Craft Strike King
  9. I've actually got quite a few options, for the last 5 or 6 years I've been using a Powell Max 7105 which I really enjoy. It's been the rod I've flipped/punched with more than any of my other rods by a wide margin. I've been really considering getting a new Max 3D 806 lately due to how much I've enjoyed my 7105.
  10. I realize that we're starting to sound like a broken record but... here's another happy 50# Power Pro user. I've tried 65# and it works but I just prefer 50#.
  11. I use a Powell Max 735 for all my frog and toad fishing. It's a mag heavy extra fast rod that flat gets the job done, period. These rods have been "redesigned" in the last year so now they're called Max 3D but I'm sure they're just as good if not better. In fact I'm planning to pick up a new Max 3D 736 frog rod tomorrow.
  12. dag3220, nice reels man!
  13. Very nice collection of Daiwa's! I owned a Fuego, Pixy, Alphas, Zillion, Steez, and TDZ at one point but I've long since sold them all except for the Alphas. About the only other reel I wish I'd kept is the Fuego. I know that to a lot of guys the Fuego and Alphas aren't quite "on the same level" as the Steez or TDZ but they were my favorites. Especially the Alphas, I'm really looking forward to finding out if the new Alphas SV spool with fit the original reels as a "tune up" part. Either way you have a very very nice collection of some of Daiwa's best low pros.
  14. I've had the chance to fish my MBR 843 & 844 a handful of times now and I'm very happy with both of them. They both seem to balance very well with my Citica E's. If I had to pick a favorite right now I'd slightly favor the 843 just because it's a bit more versatile being a MH power as opposed to the 844 being H. Both great sticks for the money though.
  15. Power Pro for braid and P-Line for everything else.
  16. I've had my E6X 843 out a hand full of times now and I'm really liking mine as well. Also have the 844. Going to pick up the CBR 847 and JWR 854 soon. Loving these rods.
  17. I couldn't agree more. I love mine, at one time I had 2 but a few years back I very stupidly sold one. Been kicking myself for it ever since.
  18. I have a fishing buddy that loves his Quantum's and it's basically all he'll buy. Never hear him complaining about them nor have I witnessed him have any issues. He's fished them for 3 or 4 years at least, still going strong. I'm a Shimano guy but I wouldn't be at all afraid to pick up a Quantum, especially the Tour MG.
  19. I definitely think so. I'm a huge E series fan, doesn't matter which size as I have them all (51, 201, & 301) and think very highly of all of them. I'm actually sad to see the E series go, they're true work horse reels that are simple to maintain and reliable.
  20. I'm currently using 65# S8S but I've also used 20 & 25# CXX with very good results. I'm actually leaning toward the CXX as I don't seem to be getting the same number of bites using braid. The braid is much easier to live with though. I have a friend who uses 50# PP with no issues so far, I'm just afraid that a backlash with 50 will result in my rig sailing into the great beyond.
  21. I'm another guy that hasn't tried the Gambler but I've had tremendous success with the D-Bomb. It's in my top 3 grass baits period, no matter the season.
  22. I really like them. Much better rods than the previous generation. Plenty light, sensitive, and are affordable. I was planning to pick up a few more but I went with the new Loomis E6X rods instead.
