Shimano worries
I have I series reels had no problems. Not looking to bash you but it sounds like to me you were looking to justify getting another CT from the guys on the board here when you had your mind made up already. Especially since you didnt really list the "problems" you were worried about. There was or is no common defect other than you have to oil the break but that is just part of maintaining your reels. Not a big deal. Anyway it's your money both Daiwa and Shimano make great reels. Buy whatever makes you happy.

So should be the last Walmart I go to because my wife will kill me if I keep going. I found an Abu Garcia Vengeance 6'6" MH/F as my beater rod for my time in NC for work. It was 25 dollars. I also picked up Manns 1- for 2 bucks each, 2 Strike King Shime Sticks Black Blue tip 1.50, 2 Rage Blades Tour grade black blue 3/8 for 3 bucks, 1 Z Man Chatterbait 3.97, 1 Arkie Jig and 1 Booyah Baby Boo Jig and pack of 1/4 oz gremlin bullet weights. All total 57 bucks.

would this work?
Like all the posters above, thatis fine. I'd at least spool 20lb braid, 30 is ideal.

Covering Bases on a Budget
I think it is well planned and will work. I do agree it's not ideal to have such a long rod for jerkbaits but it will work.

Show off your Stuff
I found my new DS rod and because they were on sale (130 USD) I also found the mate for my MGL for bladed baits (spinnerbait, chatterbait and swim jigs). 7 ML Fast Zodias paired with a Ci4+ Stradic FA 6'10" Medium Heavy Fast paired with a Metanium MGL. I am mulling putting my Core 100 MG instead and put my MGL on the bigger reaction series Cumara for my top water and bigger bladed baits.

Best reel you have used?
Right now I can only say my Met '13 because I caught fish with them and used them. However the two reels I've yet to use in a "reel" fishing situation are the Met MGL and Conquest 100. Out of the box the Conquest feels crazy smooth and refined. Until I can use both of them they aren't the best I "used" yet. ?

Drop Shot Hook Size/type????????
Size 2 to 1/0. If I'm power shoting I'll use 2/0 EWG.

So all this talk about Walmart deals I decided to hit 5 Walmarts near the Raleigh, NC area. They were all having clearance and in general a lot of them were cleaned out or had stuff I decided I didn't need. I did however found one Walmart with Gamakatsu 3/0 EWGs for .75 and found a Seaguar Red Label 6lb for 7 bucks. I bought 12 of the hooks (10 left) I decided I didn't need that many.

Spinnerbait tips
Spinnerbaits is one of my confidence baits. I don't go anywhere without one, all year long. For clear water I like natural colour baits and normally fish a double willow bait. So it sounds like you got the right idea with a natural colour. This time of year I would slow roll it. Let it sink all the way and then reel enough to get it going and reel it slow. I always fish it outside weed lines or through corridors/open spaces between cover. I love to bring it through standing trees, well not through but just around it.

Which type of line is best for fishing brush, lay downs, and rocks
For brush and trees I'll do braid. For rocks flouro leader or pline/yozuri copoly. 12-17 lbs

13 metanium or chronarch MGL?
I'm sure fishballer can chime in. In my opinion I'd get the Metanium but I don't have experience with Chronarch MGL. The reason I would pick it is the past rave reviews and it is a smooooth reel.

St Croix ScII rods vs SCIII rods
I agree, stated this in an earlier post. Not sure if you were directing it at me, but I was responding to singlecoil's post.

Has anyone attempted to fish with all breaks off?
Yes twice, 1st time was like well that sucked, years later I'm better now....I should be able to handle it. Uh no, brought back down to earth again....will never ever do it again. Why do we need to anyway? I can still cast far enough with all breaks on to catch a fish.

are combos any good?
It depends really, BPS for example will give a discount if you buy a PQ reel or Carbonlite reel paired with their carbon lite rods. That is a setup that would be leaps and bounds better than what you posted. In general the generic combos, the reel is usually the quality piece of the pair, the rod is usually a bust. You can get decent combos for around 100. Like get a Berkeley Lightning Shock or a Shimano convergence and pair that with a baitcaster like a silver or black max. If spinning you can go Trion or President.
