  1. For the reel repair guys. Oil or grease on the levelwind worm gear. I recently read that oil should be used because grease collects dirt and can wear out the pawl prematurely.
  2. which of the following sounds the best. I just picked up a new rod for frogs and heavy applications. I have 2 reels to choose from to put on it. I know gear ratio should be higher, however what I have is Daiwa Tat at 6.3:1 and a pq 6.4:1. which one would you use for cranking and which one would you use for frogging\heavy.
  3. Does anyone know if the super slick does not pick up weeds like dogwood fuzzies, I use the regular power pro for punching and frogging and it gets all caught up in my micro guides and I have to clean it up after every cast. Sometimes I cannot reel it gets so bad.
  4. Was at my local BPS to buy a new reel and was told that Wiley X sunglasses are being phased out. Not sure if this is at all BPS but heads up if looking for a deal. Might be able to get a pair cheap if they go on full clearance.
  5. Moving my PQ to a new crankbait rod and going to get a new reel for all around use. Spinner, TRig, Jigs on a Duckett Micro. I have it down to these 2, Shimano Chronarch 200E7 or the CI4+. Which would be the choice of the shimano users out there?
  6. Looking for answers from the reel gurus. Have a BPS PQ and once in a while after a cast, it makes a double click before being fully engaged. Not everytime but sometimes. Any idea on what I should look for?
  7. I have a PQ that I have 2 centri brakes on and zero mag. I have always heard that you should always have balanced brakes for the centri. Example, 2, 3, 4 or 6. My question is can it be used with 1 brake without harming it over time? As it stands now, I have the spool tension so loose that the spool wobbles very loosely that it can be heard during a fast retrieve. With the settings like that I cannot backlash no matter how hard I cast. Not saying that is problem but I want to try for a bit more distant since I am shore bound and the pads have gotten super thick by the shore. Is running 1 brake OK or will it be bad over time?
  8. Is it possible to put a new handle and reel seat on a rod or would it just be better to buy a new rod?
  9. I was fishing the pads with a frog tonight. This monster strikes and I set the hook. I fight with it for a bit and it wraps up in the pads. I get free and then realize the fish is off. All I do is pull in lily pads. I do this 3 times. Nice fish, wrap up and catch pads. I am catch and release guy. I removed the barbs from the hooks and realize the cause. Looks like I am replacing a hook on my frog. Lesson learned for me. Will still use barbless but in super heavy weeds will use barbs.
  10. To all the Shimano guys. I currently own a PQ and I really like the reel but I am wondering how much I may be missing out on a higher end reel. I grew up using ABU gear. I was big into fishing back in the 80's and 90's but got away from it for quite a while. I used the mag II reel exclusively then. I am extremely concerned with dropping $200 plus on a gen 3 revo after reading about all the issues it has been having. So I decided to check out a Chronarch at BPS yesterday. When I was checking out the free spool I noticed that it did not a have long sustained spin. My PQ spun longer fresh out of the box then the Chronarch did. The Chronarch I was looking at was fresh in box also. My question is will it require a full breakdown and soak, or was I a possibly looking at a bad one and when it gets to be time to pull the trigger is this something I should be looking close at to make sure I do not get a possible bad one.
  11. Went to tackle warehouse and Trilene XL is now listed as a Co-Polymer. From reading, the XL is reformulated now. Going to have to revisit this line and see if it is a good all around line to use. Grew up using this line. Stretch is suppose to be reduced and the line is not suppose to loose as much integrity while soaking in water. Going to test it by this weekend. If it is better than when I used to use it then this line will be awesome. Still $8 for 330 yds.
  12. I was put into total shock this last Saturday morning. I received a Pro Qualifier reel from my kids last Christmas. I liked the reel quite a bit but it has always had a slight grind feeling to the reel and casting distance never seemed to be as good as it should be to me. I did clean the reel and oil and greased it back up and had it better than it was new but something was still not quite right feeling to me. I know, how can you judge feeling. Anyways, I was looking at it close this last Saturday morning and noticed a flat spot on the outside circumference of the spool. Not huge but it was there. I think I finally found the culprit to the feeling issue I was talking about. I took the reel back to Bass Pro and went to the counter fully expecting to have to send the reel in for repair and even pay for it since it was 6 months old. I asked the guy behind the counter if he thought the flat spot would cause issues with casting and a grinding feeling and he said "I bet it would", and walked away. Then to my surprise he came back with a brand new reel in the box and handed it me and said go to customer service and have them call me if there is any questions. They up and exchanged a brand new reel for me no questioned asked. I was totally shocked. Strike one up to BPS. They have a customer for life.

So I am fishing on the shore line about 100 yards away from a boat launch. I noticed that a bass boat is heading down the shore towards where I am fishing. I was fanning the waters in front of me and thought for sure the guy would turn away knowing that I was there. I could easily be seen along the shore. However, they kept coming and trolled the boat right through where I was casting and working the water towards the shore line the whole time. I asked why they would bring the boat right through my fishing area and I was ignored. He went through and then to the boat launch to pull his boat in. I was dumb founded. Would I have been wrong to tie a 1 ounce teardrop on and cast it into the bow of their boat.... several times. No more respect in this world it seems. Sorry for rant. Had to share.
  14. Looking for opinions. I bought new line, Yo-Zuri 12lb Hybrid Clear, and went fishing with it. After about an hour, I started to have major backlash issues. I noticed that when I went to adjust the spool tension knob, when the bait started to fall I heard and felt like a grinding noise or creaking noise through the line guides. I have a Duckett Micro Guide. I have not heard this noise from a line before, except braid. I looked at all of the guides and did not notice anything out of the ordinary but my eye site is not the best as it used to be. My question is do you think that there could be an issue with the line or do you think I may have a cracked guide and I cannot see it.. Has anyone ever had an issue like this in the past? If so, what was the outcome. I am going to try a different line first chance and hopefully that is it. Never had this issue with Yo-Zuri before. I hope it is not guide issues.
