  1. Even with the sharpest hooks, best hooks, you will not hook every fish that takes a swipe at your bait. Sometimes, they just miss the hooks.
  2. I suppose it depends on where you buy them. When a friend had a bearing problem on the highway, he had to use a complete, pre-greased hub. It lasted about a month when the housing broke apart and damaged the axle. If you can do it yourself, you can buy quality parts, take your time, and assemble it.
  3. Not lying. I hate targeting walleye. Most boring fishing there is. I don’t mind catching them, but only as accidental catches while fishing for bass.
  4. I hate house painting too, but I’d rather paint my house than fish for walleyes.
  5. The spinners you showed in the picture should be perfect. Just remember, do not stop during your retrieve. Keep the bait moving or it will get snagged. You have no access to baits from USA?
  6. Which part of the lake are you staying on? I fished Vermilion for close to 25 years. I always stayed on Black Duck Bay in the central part of the lake.
  7. Go to the DuPage County Forest Preserve website and it has a list of lakes that you can fish.
  8. The smallmouth on the lake I’m on will barely be starting pre-spawn by the weekend. Water temp is only 46. The water has a long way to warm up before they’ll even begin to start fanning nests. Anymore big cold fronts like went through here last week could push it back even farther. I am planning in staying at least till Monday if the weather holds up. I’m retired, I can stay as long as I want!
  9. Due to the virus, the resort I had booked for this week was closed. The friend I was going with had vacation time scheduled, the upcoming weather looks promising, so we booked a room at a motel and headed north. This morning, was the tail end of the storm that dumped huge amounts of rain all over the Midwest. Windy, overcast, and chilly, had us thinking the bass might not be very cooperative so we hit a lake we know that is loaded with small pike. This is my first real day of fishing this year and I wanted some bites. Turned out to be a good choice as we boated 67 “snot rockets” in 4 hours before the bite shut off. I got my half of the fish on a #4 Mepps, and a 1/4 oz RedEye Shad while drifting over a large weed flat in 4-5 feet of 52 degree water. After our break, we’re going looking for bass. This pike is pretty typical of what we caught. Nothing approaching even nice size was caught.
  10. You mean like NASCAR does now.
  11. Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) used for livewell oxygenation can oxidize, damage, burn fish gills, eyes, skin, scales. It is a powerful oxidizer destroying cell membranes upon contact.
  12. Are you joking? How buoyant do you think braided line is? A bare hook easily will sink braid. Especially line thin enough to fit through the eye of a 1/16 oz jig. Slowing the fall is why you would use a light jig. The most you could hope for with braid is that it might slow the fall of your jig just a tiny bit which is an advantage while using the Ned rig
  13. The only way it digs in is if you pull hard on the line while your drag is locked down.
  14. Go to YouTube and search for tying feathered trebles. That should give you all you need to know.
  15. If your Honda has a towing package that has a transmission cooler, I don’t think you’d have any problems.
  16. As far as I’m concerned, the 2500 size should be good. If, you are going to be using a heavier mono or fluoro line, the extra line capacity of a larger reel might be a reason to go bigger.
  17. An unweighted, T rigged, senko in a river.
  18. Before I did any other troubleshooting on the motor, I’d hook it up to a different battery that you know for sure is fully charged.
  19. How does the coating and stiffness effect your ability to fish with it? I used to use Fireline which was very stiff out of the box with a coating. I noticed it while spooling it up, but never noticed it while fishing. After a couple of hours, that was all gone but it never interfered with casting or retrieving.
  20. There are two things I noticed here. Did the “guy” fish the same part of the lake before or after you? Fishing behind a guy who knows what he’s doing is going to hurt your numbers especially if you are using the same bait. Second. Were there witnesses to his numbers. Believe it or not, some fishermen have been known to exaggerate a bit about their day back at the dock.
  21. The men who created rock and roll are nearly all gone. Little Richard dead at age 87.

I was supposed to go next Saturday, but due to Covid, it’s been canceled. Water is still too cold up there anyway.
  23. A big part of the decision depends on what waters are you going to fish. Most of the larger lakes are mapped and contained in a map chip. Smaller lakes and ponds will not be on the chip. If your unit has the software to make your own maps, it would be valuable for those smaller lakes.

I grew up with Steve Jobs, Johnny Cash and Bob Hope. Now, there are no Jobs, no Cash and no Hope. I pray Kevin Bacon stays healthy.
  25. I hate a buff. I can’t take anything that tight on my neck. I wear a wide brim hat, big sunglasses and a beard. All I need is just a touch of sunscreen on my nose and below my eyes. Long sleeve quick dry shirt, long pants and I’m covered.
