  1. Anybody watching the classic weigh in hear aaron talking about having some issues with his equipment? Makes me wonder if it was with those new rods of his. Wonder how microwave guides do with the ice.
  2. From listening to Ike talk lately about the classic he sure has been talking up hair jigs a lot. With as cold as the weather is going to be at the classic I think that there are gonna be a lot of guys fishing hair jigs. I am sure jerkbaits and regular jigs are going to be getting in on some action too though.
  3. Depends on what type of action you are wanting to achieve. Like said previously the flash pointer has a more aggressive action with more sharp side to side darting action. The pointer has good action too though. They are both really good jerkbaits. Lucky Craft also makes another really good jerkbait called a Staysee. It dives a lil bit deeper and has caught a lot of fish for me. Most of the jerkbaits I like to fish are right around 100 size some a lil bit bigger and some a lil bit smaller but 100 seems about right most of the time.
  4. BOSS heavy cover and BOSS football jigheads. The weedguard on the heavy cover jigs is ridiculous and gets hung up less than any other jig Ive used. Football jighead is pretty much like any other but its got a good hook on it. I buy skirts separately for the jigheads.
  5. I like the pit boss, beavers, and rage craws. Pit boss has a really good action on the fall but not too aggressive. Beavers have a much more subtle action and the rage craws have a more aggressive action. See what the bass are wanting that day and you're good. If I wanna give them a different look or something real subtle sometimes I will even flip a senko. Each of these baits come in and out of cover very well.
  6. Just wondering if anybody fishes a spoon attached to a leader below a little george. If so, does the spoon get tangled up in the treble of the little george when jigging? Havent got a chance to try it yet due to cold weather but I know of some bridge pilings I always mark bass on when the water is in the low 40's and thought about trying this technique. I have fished a little george by itself but just noticed the line tie behind the blade and thought about tying a spoon on. Any other types of lures work well behind a lil george?
  7. Yum mud minnow for me pearl white color. They actually give you some of these baits with the flash mob and flash mob jr I think. They are very durable and stay on the jighead well. At first I was using SK shadalicious hollow bodied baits and didnt like them as well as solid body swimbaits. The hollow bodies have a little more rolling action when fished on a jighead that I like when fishing a single swimbait but I dont really like it on A rigs. They also tear up easier even though I used super glue to attach them to the jigheads. I know of one lake close by where they murder an A rig this time of year, basically if you wanna win a tournament there right now you better be throwing it. Another lake I fish even more often, they wont touch the thing. The lake that they eat it good on is a little bit clearer water so I think maybe that is what makes the difference.
  8. i guess spro had to come up with something since mike mcllelland won table rock on a wiggle wart. Just looking at them online they do not seem to have the same type of body or bill and my guess would be that they will not have the same action. Seems they have already been tested by bluebasser and he confirmed this. In this case I am not interested in buying any.
  9. Falls, jordan, and harris are all good lakes. Randleman was something special the first couple of years it opened but is not even a fraction as good as it was 4 years ago, it gets a ton of pressure especially for the size it is and has affected the bass fishing in a negative way. Harris also gets a lot of pressure for its size and even though it has some big fish it can also be pretty darn stingy sometimes. You should be fine in your size boat on most of the lakes around raleigh. As far as kerr lake goes you have to be careful there sometimes when the wind blows. Roughest freshwater ive ever been on especially fishing the bottom end of nutbush by the trestle with a due north wind. Wind has about 15 miles of water to blow over coming straight from the north and in your boat I would not want any part of that. An older fella I fish with told me a story of back in the 80s when he had a 14 foot boat fishing on kerr where he about sunk the boat fishing bottom end of nutbush. Jordan falls and harris from march to april will definitely take some hefty stringers to win. 25-30 pounds easy have seen some heavier sacks than that too.
  10. roboworm 4 and 6 inch. They work good cause they are really soft and flexible and give lots of action with little rod movement.
  11. Cavitrons are awesome. I caught a lot of nice fish on them last year in the spring and fall. I only have 4 buzzbaits I ever throw. 3/8 and 1/4 black blade black skirt cavitron and 1/4 and 3/8 oz white with red blade. Fish the 3/8 oz ones when there is a decent wind and chop on the water and fish the 1/4 oz ones when the water is pretty calm. Seem to do better with black on black earlier in the year when the fish first start hitting them and when its dark. Around May during the shad spawn and in the fall I do better on the white. My friend and usual tournament partner has 25 buzzbaits from 15 different lure manufacturers and spends more time trying to figure out which one to tie on than actually fishing. I end up catching more on a buzzbait than he does. With buzzbaits dont over-analyze just tie one on and keep it in the water.
  12. I use size 1 kahara snaps as well. Since I use snaps I will also take off the regular split ring that comes with the bait. I havent ever had one open up while hooked up with a fish. Action on the crankbait is good and it makes switching crankbaits a lot easier. Im one of those people who might switch crankbaits 5 times in 15 minutes.
  13. I was using insert free tungsten weights and noticed that every so often I was breaking off a fish on the hookset especially when fishing laydowns with pegged creature baits. I was using 25 lb fluoro. Not cheap fluorocarbon either. I thought that the line was definately heavy enough so I was kinda stumped for a while about why it was happening. Watched the Aaron Martens video and started adding inserts to all of my tungsten weights, which mostly are strike king brand because I can pick them up at wal mart really easily. Since doing this, I have not broke off a single fish on the hookset. I feel it has definately helped. I also bought some Reins tungsten bullet weights and they come with inserts. They worked great too but are more expensive than doing it yourself with the heat shrink tubing. If you are fishing weights without inserts, especially if you are pegging your weight, pull your bobber stop up and feel your line after flipping or pitching for about an hour or so. Every time I do this I can feel that the line has a different texture (doesn't feel frayed really just kinda rubbed feeling) where the weight was up against the line. With inserts my line never feels like it has been rubbed under the weight.
  14. 1/4 oz
  15. Try a 3/4 oz rattle trap. Let it get down and tick the grass and when you feel it start to bog down...rip it out hard and fast....just like KVD does. You said you have had some success fishing the edge of the grass. I would continue to fish the outside edge that is where the fish should be right now.
  16. If you have a decent sonar on your boat you should be able to see how high off the bottom the grass comes. Figure out how tall the grass is growing down there and rig up a drop shot and make your leader long enough that it will put your bait above the grass.
  17. I use the 6th sense peg x stoppers as well. I have used the ones from bass pro shops and they work ok but slide up your line whenever you are fishing through heavy cover. The 6th sense ones are longer and have more contact grip with your line and dont slide up your line as much as the others. It gets annoying every 2 or 3 flips having to slide your bobber stop back down to your bait.
  18. bluebasser thanks a lot for the info. I am going to try them out for the first time this friday and see what I think. We have been catching a lot of postspawn bass out of deep laydown trees and basically bought this bait for bumping around them. We have been catching our fish pitching creature baits in the trees but want to give the fish a different look. Are they really as hang resistant as shallower square bills? I also noticed that the hooks that came on the series 2 baits looked good and not paper thin like the hooks they put on some of their other baits.
  19. I like the revenge viberators. Nice thing about them is with the spring clip on the bait you can add a weedless trailer really easily and fish it in tight to cover without getting hung. Check them out.
  20. Have seen these crankbaits a while ago and was interested in one just never pulled the trigger. Saw two left on the shelves at a local wal mart and decided to get them. They are the series 2 which is the medium size i guess, cant find it anywhere on tackle warehouse or bass pro. I can find the series 1 and series 3 all over the place but this is a series 2 which says it will run 8-22 which by looking at it looks like it may run 12-13 feet realistically. I was looking for some feedback online and didnt find much about this bait even though its been out for 2 years. Anyone have any experience or opinions of this bait?
  21. Depending on what pound test you have spooled you actually CAN damage your reel breaking line like that. Never break your line while holding the spool and never use your rod either. Take the line a couple of feet past the rod tip, wrap it around your hand a few times and break it that way. My guess would be that you either damaged one of your spool bearings or bent your spool shaft. Modern day baitcaster spools are made out of aluminum and aluminum will bend when put under pressure. If your spool shaft is bent even in the slightest it creates friction where it spins inside your pinion gear during casting and will drastically hurt your casting distance.
  22. We have been catching fish since february on these two jerkbaits and even though fish are spawning where I live right now, with the crazy weather there are still pre and post spawn fish to catch. The jerkbait bite has yet to slow down since february. I myself love the 110 and have great luck with it but I do notice that the material the bill is made out of can chip pretty easily especially when fishing along riprap banks. If you want a lure that has that similar eratic/darting action but is more durable check out the flash pointers. Little less expensive, catch fish and last longer. Just wanted to get some other people to chime in with their experiences with these baits. Also, if anyone has used the excalibur eeratic shad, what you think about it?
  23. garbage. used vanish 12 pound test one time cause its all i could find at walmart. Threw a heavy crankbait and the line just snapped 4 inches above the knot. Inspected the line and noticed it had a ton of stretch. Anyone ever felt Cajun red line. It has a crazy amount of stretch as well. it is garbage too.
  24. Shane J. I am wondering what part of NC you are fishing cause all the lakes around where I fish in the piedmont the bass definately havent spawned. All the fish we have been catching are def pre spawn and fat. Water where Im at just broke 55 degree surface temp a couple of days ago. Also, the surface temp you read on your sonar will read warmer than the water actually is down a few feet where the fish are living. We have been catching some good size fish, just not big numbers of fish yet. Seems to me like the big ones move up shallow first and when the water warms up a lil more all the other bass will hit the banks too.
