  1. I'm a software engineer. I mostly work on mobile applications that provide both private and personal security solutions for smartphones. I've been working a lot lately on localization, which is what makes an app know your location and provide your application with location specific features like geo-fencing, breadcrumb tracking, safety zones, etc. I went to school for CAD/CAM Engineering, but halfway through, the market started to dwindle so I switched gears and never looked back.
  2. I'm down here around Indy, similar temps this morning. I'm working, and then coming home sitting in a corner quietly crying and muttering random things under my breath....copolymer....treble hooks....wacky worm.... all while rocking back and forth surrounded by Bassmaster and the BPS catalogs, with the neon glow of my laptop set to the BR page glowing on my face..... waiting.....
  3. Is anyone else besides me unable to get the Acme Mapper page to load? I've tried it on 2 different computers - Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Chrome, and Safari.....none load. Other pages of the site work though, it's just the main map page that won't load.
  4. I bought a rep sample Shimano Clarus spinning rod on eBay and it was in excellent shape. The plastic was still on the handle. I would've done it again on the Crucial I just bought except TW had a sale that made them the same price, so I went with brand new. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
  5. The Sufix does have a bigger price tag. But I can't objectively say I like one over the other since I've never had a failure with either. I've had Spiderwire fail, kind of disappointed there. But my question was more of one that dealt with which one would work better with a line conditioner, since most of them say their best application is on a non-coated line. Heck maybe I'll just save my money for the BPS Spring Classic and buy a spool for both and re-spool BOTH baitcasters this year!
  6. Eh.....I was thinking that. I just also have used Sufix 832, but it seems to be more stiff. I didn't know if that was due to a coating or something
  7. I've got a new reel that I'd like to put braid on. I just wondered which brands and types of braid have coatings on them. I ask this because I got some KVD L&L and they recommend not using it on coated braid. I have previously used Sufix 832 and Power Pro, both braids I have great success with. Do either of these braids have coatings? Would you recommend a different braid (non-coated) over these? Any tips on appying the L&L other than what the website recommends? *Just as a note, this will be mostly a heavy cover jig/frog rod which is why I prefer braid Thanks!
  8. I don't have as many jigs as you, but I use a Plano Hydro-Flo box. I like it because it drains away the water and keeps the hooks, wire bands, and any other metal parts from getting rusted out.
  9. Here's the bluegill spinnerbait I have from Terminator. You can still get them it seems http://www.amazon.com/Terminator-Spinnerbait-Willow-Willow-Bluegill-2-Ounce/dp/B008DNWU9K
  10. I have a bluegill pattern Terminator. It's one of my go-to baits. I also have luck with the white and charteuse baits, but this one seems to do better for me in clear and shallow water. I don't think Terminator makes the bluegill spinnerbait like I have, I've not seen it for a long time, but if you can find one, it seems to be a producer.
  11. I'm putting a small 30-40lb trolling motor on the back of my Sea Eagle SE-8. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewse8.html I'll probably use an entry level type transom mount motor with 30-40lb thrust and 30" shaft. I am wondering, what kind of battery should I get for the motor. I've never had one, so I'm looking for newbie advice. Pretty much all I've come up while researching is that it needs to be a deep cycle battery. But what else do I need to have? Is it required to have the Minn Kota battery center? I'm not doing any huge lakes or anything. It'd mostly be a little pond scout with the addition of some secluded coves of a smallish lake by my house. Thanks

  13. Mmmm......sounds like a plan. I may have to do that. So far I've only bought his jigs.
  14. Guys, Mike Siebert is cranking out some seriously nice jigs! I'm sure many of you here on BR have used the Siebert jigs before I did, but if you've not gotten around to ordering your own, this would be the week to get them, while most of the country is experiencing some kind of unseasonable weather (this is looking at you enviously southwest region/FL tip members). I was fortunate enough to receive the stocking stuffer pack that he advertised as a Christmas gift, and since then I've bought a couple more, and to say these are excellent jigs would be an understatement. The quality and craftsmanship are second to none. The color selection is quite vast and should adequately cover any forage replication you're seeking. His prices are competitive and the speed of shipping is refreshingly fast once he's got your jig(s) built. Additionally, Mike is always ready to give tips and advice on jig tips, trailer recommendations, and answers technique questions quickly, he knows his stuff. As far as a business man, Mike is a true pro. His customer support is impeccable and is always quick to get back with me on any communication I send his way. Answers are thourough and concise. Do yourself and your fishing season a favor and order some of his jigs! www.siebertoutdoors.com
  15. I may get a couple laughs and sideways looks for this, but I've used Maui Jims and Oakley polarized sunglasses, but I bought some Spiderwire fishing glasses at Wally World last year when I had forgotten my good ones at the house, and man was I impressed. I didn't notice any worse performance than I got with my others, and they looked quite a bit cooler too. I know all the specifics that the Spiderwires probably don't have true polarization (probably a film coating), but for a quick-n-dirty pair that you don't choke if they fly overboard, they're pretty decent glasses. My current high end ones are a pair of Rudy Project glasses.
  16. I've used their 10in hammer worm with some decent success, but not any more or less than a standard texas rigged worm.
  17. That's really cool. I'd like to tangle with one of those babies!
  18. Do you know if you'll be carrying an aftermarket aluminum drag star for the Curado G series? It'd be cool to have a green accent kit, including the drag star. But since it's only plastic, I'd need an aftermarket part.
  19. Not sure how it fixed itself, but I kept messing around with it, and after taking it apart and checking to make sure I re-installed everything correctly, it seems to have stopped. I love it when that happens
  20. Looks awesome! You might consider adding some Siebert jigs to the jig box. They're unparalleled in quality IMHO! http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/
  21. Admittedly I've never used a Duckett Ghost but I personally have a Carbonlite. The Carbonlite is one of the lightest and most responsive rods I've ever had. I have the Microguide version. I have a buddy who's got several St. Croix and a couple G. Loomis rods.....he's impressed with the Carbonlite. So there ya go. HA! Take my word for it if you'd like. Since Duckett is a superb quality rod, and I have personally experienced the qualities of the Carbonlite......it seems you couldn't go wrong really with either one. This might be a way to justify buying both rods? Haha
  22. Just a quick question for the reel repairment/tuners out there. I just recently broke down my Curado 201G7 and cleaned it. I regreased the gears with not too little, not too much grease. Now when I turn the handle of the reel, it makes a slight buzzing sound, almost like the gears are making the noise. Like if you push a windup car instead of winding it and letting it go, just not quite as loud. I took the reel apart and double checked the schematic. Nothing's out of place or re-installed incorrectly, yet it still makes the noise, even cleaned and re-lubed. Any ideas?
  23. Hey guys. I just got a new zodiac style Sea Eagle boat. Its very nice, and it's got a transom to mount a small motor or trolling motor to. I've decided that I would rather have a trolling motor, since the bodies of water I access aren't going to be very big, it's not really necessary. That said, I'm hoping to score a relatively inexpensive trolling motor, probably used since my budget is pretty cheap. I just wonder, what things would you look for in a used trolling motor. I'm pretty adept at knowing what to look for in used cars - dirty tailpipes, worn rotors, engine noises, but I know nothing about trolling motors. Thanks
  24. Well, to be honest I got it in late November, and here in Indiana the winter hasn't been too kind to us so I haven't been able to really put it to the test. That said, I was able to take it out and cast it, in to a uncommonly high river around here, but I was able to get out for a bit just to see how it worked and felt with my also new Crucial rod, spooled with 50lb PP. I also applied a good amount of KVD L&L. It seems to cast like a bullet. I've used a couple of my buddy's Curado's in the past and they're great. On the forums here it seems the Curado G gets a bit of bad rap, apparently it's not built quite as solid as the Curado's from years past, but the reel seems very solid so I'm confident that it'll do well for me. I'm more of a 1-2 times a week kind of fisherman, maybe 5hrs a week average, so I'm definitely not beating it to death, and my buddy hasn't had any issues with his whatsoever and he's a tournament angler, usually one a week during summer months. I'd say go for it, I have a couple others and it's every bit as good, if not better than the other comparably priced ones I have. I didn't get mine during any sales, I picked mine up from an Amazon.com sale for about $120 with free shipping.
