  1. I use mono for my cranks and don't have a problem with hook sets. I always make a sweeping motion to set the hook like you stated and typically never have a problem. I use Berkley 8lb sensation on my spinning reel and 12lb trilene for my baitcaster and both work great.
  2. I'm starting to lean towards Rapala as my favorite company but I like a lot of the Pradco companies, like Rebel and Xcalibur.
  3. I've caught 16 so far. Biggest was around 4lbs. The Rapala square bill crankin rap has worked wonders since the ice melted.
  4. I caught a 19" catfish using a topwater Rebel Wee frog. I never thought catfish ate off the top but now I know.
  5. Jigs and lipless cranks. Never caught a fish on a lipless crank. Although I've caught fish on jigs, I catch more with crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and topwater lures. Personally, jigs don't appeal to me. I take more pride in the hardbaits I use.
  6. X4. I gave up on rooster tails. When fishing for native or wild trout, it's important to make the first cast count. If the blade doesn't spin, you're outta luck. Panther Martins have never given me problems. I've talked to many fisherman who swear by them.
  7. Zell Rowland classic/pro Pop-r's
  8. I picked one of these up at BPS a week ago. I have yet to use it because I'm afraid of getting snagged and losing $9. But I will say that it is a beautiful crankbait for the price and the hooks are nice.
  9. Hi everyone, my name is John Lutz and I love to fish (I'm sure everyone on here loves to fish, as well). I do a lot of creek fishing for smallmouths and scored my personal best this year (around 2-3lbs). I also do a bit of largemouth fishing. However, my favorite fish to catch are native brook trout and wild brown trout. I fly fish and spin fish, but fly fishing is far more fun. I came across this forum a while back and read some helpful tips from here, so I decided to join. A bit of a problem I've been having lately is losing frogs, either to fish or just having them break off. I don't know if it's my knots or the line I'm using (8lb fluorocarbon). If anyone knows some helpful tips to prevent this from happening please feel free to share them. Anyways, I'm glad to finally be a part of this community.
