  1. "Pro" angler advice: bed fishing is cheap so fish for bass that are just about to move onto beds or have just moved off the beds. I would think he's an advocate of catch and release but his videos say otherwise
  2. A regular backpack will do just fine. However, I got a bass pro shops pro qualifier back pack and it has been a big step up from the school bag I was using. I highly recommend it. The only downfall is that I can haul too much stuff, making it rather heavy.
  3. The rapala subwalk. Don't know why I thought walking the dog underwater would be a good idea. It's hard to walk it when you can't see it.
  4. I bought a tatula, even though I didn't need a new reel. I have had no regrets about buying it and it has become my favorite casting reel. It doesn't cast farther but it takes less effort when casting.
  5. Well it's not open to the public, so I would guess there's some giants in there.
  6. There is a trout stream that runs behind the Walmart I go to, so the fishing section caters more to trout anglers than bass. But I've been to ones in NY and NC that have a large selection of bass gear. But Walmart is having a price war with Amazon right now. Unfortunately it seems like the fishing stuff is not being affected by it.
  7. My first JDM reel. Unfortunately it could use a new anti-reverse bearing but other than that I'm happy. Couldn't pass up the color scheme on it. Not sure why the pictures are showing up sideways.
  8. $119 for a composite framed reel? At least that ruins my temptation to buy one.
  9. Thanks for the list. Unfortunately, I'm not buying new, as I can't afford a new Morrum or JDM Millionaire. That's why I'm looking on ebay.
  10. Thanks for all the input, everyone. I guess the only way to find out is to take my chances. I'm looking at some Daiwa Millionaire cv-z's and Abu Garcia Morrum sx's on ebay that are located in Japan.
  11. I'm looking at purchasing a reel from Japan on ebay. However, I read ebay's details on international trade and it says that customs fees may apply. I was wondering if anyone who has experience with JDM reel purchases could weigh in on whether they have been charged for this or not. I don't want to get nailed with a big import fee that I never saw coming.
  12. Thanks for the advice. I figured that would be the case. I'll just wait for a good deal on a kayak. Then I won't have to worry about air leaking out.
  13. I'm looking for a good inflatable boat for under $100 and was wondering if anyone on this forum could recommend one (the online shopping reviews I've found aren't very helpful). My dad has a canoe, but it's a two person job and I'd like to be able to get out on the water whenever I want. I fish small lakes and reservoirs that are electric motor only. Feel free to offer tips and advice as well.
  14. I have a tourney trail 7ft medium. Had to replace the guide on the tip because the rubber insert fell out. But I enjoy using it. It's not my favorite rod but for $40, it's a good deal.
  15. Rebel crawfish and inline spinners
  16. Even with this surfacing, I'm sure the DEP will avoid doing anything to try to fix the issue.
  17. Last year I started seriously pursuing bass after a couple years of chasing trout. This year I've had a good few weeks of fishing since the ice melted off the water. Since I have a semester of college off due to transferring schools, I have the weekday mornings to get out and have any body of water almost completely to myself. It was a slow start at first but then I caught a largemouth that was short of 21 inches fishing a 7/16 oz finesse jig, marking a new personal best for me. Then I went up to the mountains where I usually trout fish, but I went after bass this time. I landed two nice 17+ inch largemouths slowly dragging a 3/4 oz football jig over some chunk rock. But last Wednesday I went to a lake that is a true gem for where I live, as it is full of big, healthy largemouth. I had my best 3 hours of bass fishing quality wise. I landed around a 2lber, a 3lber, as well as two dinks and had another bass around 3lbs break my line right at my feet. But it was capped off by a new personal best for me. Unfortunately, I had lost my tape measure at the mountains and didn't get a measurement. All I know was that this was a solid prespawn chunk and it had more girth than my previous pb. Today I went back out to the same place as last Wednesday. Caught two small ones on a crankbait and then it began to rain steadily. Since the water at the lake is muddy I decided to throw a black buzzbait. I've never caught a bass on a buzzbait before but I always imagined that if a giant hit it, there would be a big explosion coming out of the water. So when a fish gently slurped my buzzbait 10 feet in front of me, I thought it was just a small one. Next thing I know a giant 5+ lber jumps vertically out of the water tossing my buzzbait behind me. I was in shock at first and then the disappointment settled in. But I really can't complain. I have had a great year so far and I'm sure that I will break the 5lb mark for sure, soon. Just wanted to share the success I've had this year. Tight lines - John
  18. I don't own any senkos. Tried yum dingers but didn't care for them. There was a Roland Martin commercial promoting Yamamoto baits with an ad phrase that said something along the lines of "the bait works for you." Well I want to work the lure, not the other way around.
  19. Sweet. I own a 1988 Ranger and my family has a 1997 Taurus wagon with 230k miles on it and still running strong. You get your money's worth with Fords. However, when it comes to auto racing, I'm a Chevy guy.
  20. Your location says you live in Akron, so I'm gonna assume you live close to Lititz/Ephrata. The Hammer, Middle, and Cocalico creeks are all right around your neck of the woods and hold smallmouth over the summer. I live in Manheim close to Lebanon, so I've spent a lot of my time up there. There's a number of different lakes in Lebanon. Lake Ebeneezer would be perfect for you and your son. There's bank access nearly the whole way around. Lots of fishing pressure but not bass specific fishing pressure. I've crushed the bass in there using squarebills and lipless cranks. There's also trout in there, apparently. You just have to watch out for snapping turtles. Honestly, every body of water, unless its a private pond, experiences lots of fishing pressure in Lancaster. The fish in my avatar was caught at a place that I've been sworn to keep secret. It was not the Susky though. I don't fish the Susky at all, as I feel it's not worth my time. I fish the Swatara creek flowing into the Susky for smallmouth. The Conestoga holds some smallmouth, but from the research I gathered a while back, it appears to be more of a carp river. There's a lot of info about Lancaster fishing areas on a fly fishing forum for PA (can't mention it because I think it will show up as censored).
  21. I live in Lancaster and there aren't many size able bodies of water other than the susky. Most waters are electric motor only lakes. Muddy Run is a pretty good bass lake. Most creeks will hold smallmouth. Other than that there's not much. Look on google maps and try to find some new places. I do a lot of fishing outside of Lancaster.
  22. To the OP, I own two siennas and caught my personal best bass with them. You won't be disappointed with one. For $30, it's a good reel that should last you a long while. You seem to want the sienna, and if that's what you want, go for it.
  23. My buddy and I will be fishing Lake Norman near the end of March. I hope the ice has melted here by the time we get back, because I won't be able to stand coming from an area with fishable water to an area with hard water.
  24. I have a 7' medium casting rod. It's a decent rod but I have to replace the last guide because the inner ring on it fell off. But for that price, it is a good deal (unless you have to pay the ridiculous shipping fee).
