  1. With Senkos, I personally go with a pretty violent upward hook set more so than just reeling up slack. Also, I find a 1/0 to be pretty small. I usually use 3/0. There are guys on here that are far better fishermen than me that I am sure will give you better advice. Just my 2 cents.
  2. I got it from work tonight and decided to do a little bank fishing. I was throwing a Zara Spook and walking it from a pretty good distance out back to where I was on the bank. On one cast I let it sit there for a few seconds and a small largemouth (maybe a little over a pound) hit it. I got excited and ready for a fight only to have the fish basically put up absolutely no fight at all and let me drag him right up to the bank. Crazy. Laziest largemouth I have ever caught.
  3. Fished Lanier on Saturday wth my nephew. Early in the morning we had some success with white spinnerbait and Yamamoto crankbait. Later in the day we landed some with flukes, jerkbaits, and buzz baits.
  4. Another vote here for Booyah Pad Crashers. Affordable and get the job done.
  5. For me it is the good ole 1/2oz Rat-L-Trap. Seems to produce for me when nothing else will.
  6. Thanks guys! I had never heard of a jika rig. Looks interesting. Going to have to give that a try!
  7. Found some Zoom Z Hogs on sale at Dick's for cheap. What is the best way to rig these things? Just Texas rigged on on say, a 4/0 hook? Weightless or with some kind of weight?
  8. I have never used a Carolina Rig but want to give it a try. Seems to be an wakeful lot of parts to it. What all do I need to build out this rig? Planning on rigging up plastic lizards on it.
  9. I was at Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday and got a look at the Live Target Baitball lures. I could not help myself. I had to buy one. A couple of questions: 1. Have any of y'all fished with one of these yet and what is your feedback? 2. Is there a particular time of year or are there particular conditions that this lure would be best suited for? The model that I picked up was the one that dives 2-4 feet.
  10. I got my 1/2 oz Rat-L-Trap snagged on a piece of rope today. After I got the snag loose, I realized one of the treble hooks had come off and the other was bent. Can someone tell me what make and size trebles come on a 1/2 oz Rat-L-Trap or recommend a suitable replacement hook?
  11. I will be using a spinning reel with either lures or bait. Both are an option. I will be fishing mountain streams in Northeast Georgia. These streams are stocked until Labor Day, so at this point I guess I will be trying to land what is left of the stock rainbows along with any native trout that just happen to be there. What size and style of hook works best for trout when using baits such as dough balls, corn, salmon eggs, etc. ?
  12. I am strictly a catch and release bass fisherman and always do the best I can to return the fish to the water as quickly as possible with as little trauma as possible. Tonight I tied on a Rat-L-Trap for the first time and promptly landed a 2lb bass. When I got him in I noticed that the front treble hook had carved up his lips pretty good and was tightly embedded and there was a lot of blood. I did my best to work quickly and remove the hooks but this fish was in rough shape with pieces of his lips missing by the time I got him back in the water. Is this characteristic of a Rat-L-Trap or did thus particular fish just have bad luck? I did notice when taking the lure out of the package that the hooks were good and sharp. To make matters worse, I was holding the fish firmly with my left hand while removing the hooks with my right. After I got him back in the water and resumed fishing I kept smelling a nasty smell. I looked down and the fish had crapped all over my left hand. Guess he did not take kindly to having his lips carved up!
  13. First let me apologize in advance if this question is off topic for a bass forum. I normally bass fish but have been invited by my nephew to come trout fishing with him. We will be fishing for rainbow and brown trout, most of them stocked. My question is, do the same techniques generally apply in trout fishing as bass fishing. Specifically, do you use a good firm hook set or just reel them in? Any other tips A bass fisherman may need to know would be greatly appreciated.
  14. I am unfortunately going through the process of a divorce and don't have anywhere near the access to the pond in my neighborhood and John boat. I am staying with my parents in Gainesville GA about half of the time and have been trying to bank fish around there with little success. Any of you guys boat fishermen on Lanier that would be open to me tagging along?
  15. Just to clarify, this question was hypothetical. I used possibly the worst example I could have by suggesting that I would want to save mono. I get that mono is dirt cheap and not worth saving. The example could have been flouro or anything for that matter. Was just wondering if I ever needed to switch out any one kind for another if the line on the reel can be salvaged.
  16. Ok, just as an update, I tied on about a 12-15 foot flouro leader. Casted just fine. Sensitivity is good and combo of lines is good and strong. I'll go with it. I appreciate all the advice.
  17. I am in a situation where I am slowly building up my stock of rods, reels, and lures but don't have a wide variety yet. What do I do to get line off of a reel but preserve it to use later? In other words,if I haves reel spooled up with perfectly good mono but need to switch to braid for a specific purpose, how do I get the mono back off in such a way that it can be spooled back on the reel and used again later?
  18. Thank you for the replies so far. How do I know how long to make the leader?
  19. I was at Dick's Sporting Goods today and found a spool of Power Pro 15lb braid on the clearance rack for $5. Needless to say, I bought it. I have actually never used braid before but decided to give it a try and spooled up one of my spinning reels with it. Now the question I have since I have no experience with braid is: Do I need a mono or flouro leader tied on or is straight braid fine. Just for my knowledge, could those of you who answer please explain why you are choosing the answer that you are? Thanks in advance!
  20. Buford is up I-85 northeast of Atlanta about 40 miles. The good news is that is in close proximity to the Bass Pro Shop. The Cabelas rep said that they would be putting a store in Augusta and also in Acworth. Unfortunately, neither of these are especially close to Buford. I was really surprised they were not going to put a presence closer to the city. I buy most of my stuff at Bass Pro or Dicks and occasionally make it to an Academy.
  21. I was actually in an online chat with a rep from Cabelas on their website the other day and she did confirm that Cabelas was coming to Augusta.
  22. I appreciate the feedback guys. Again, I really bought this combo for trout fishing, just wanted to see if it had an application in the bass world. I use my medium heavy action rods for my bass stuff. Just seeing if this combo would play a part in my bass arsenal.
  23. I picked up an Ugly Stick Ultrlight combo tonight that I plan to mainly use for trout fishing. Now that I have it, I am curious how I can use it in my bass fishing arsenal. I generally us a pair of medium heavy 7ft spinning rod and reel combos. Never used an Ultrlight setup. What kinds of lures and baits can I toss with this setup? How will it be different from what I am used to and what are the advantages and disadvantages of an ultralight combo for bass?
  24. I am still fairly new to bass fishing and so far only use spinning rod and reel combinations. Is it possible to properly flip and pitch with a spinning reel or is a baitcaster pretty much a necessity? I have an Abu baitcaster hand me down from my father in law but haven't had the guts to try it yet.
  25. Ok, checked out the Tackle Warehouse page to get an idea of what these things look like and now have a grasp on the general look of these things. Are these top water baits or do the swim under the surface? I don't have any lures in this category in my tackle box. Any suggestions on a few reasonably priced swimbaits that you all have found to be productive?
