  1. I am a beginner as well and so far I have had luck with a Carolina rig, and spinner baits.
  2. I am newer to baitcasters so the baitcaster reel I have is the bass pro shops pro quailfier and so far it has been a amazing reel for the price the reviews on it do not lie. I do have it on a BPS Carbonlite rod as well and the rod is pretty awesome, one of the few rods I will spend money on actually. The rod is sensitive and has a really stop back bone.
  3. If I can pick up service for pandora I usually listen to country if I am cat fishing. But normally only have music If I am on the pier with a few people fishing.
  4. Probably pulled my rod back to far to cast and knocked phones, drinks and everything off the coolers in to the river.
  5. Makes sense, I was dragging it along the bank wall with the t rig not just out in open water all day. But no luck and the luck I did get was a few nice big sticks I reeled in haha, or just got caught up. When ever I get the water pump on my boat I can take it out and fish in better spots but for the next couple weeks its going to be a lot of bank and pier fishing so was just curious of the best things to use in this situation.
  6. Ill buy a few, Ready to catch my first bass already but was having no luck with plastics so far.
  7. What would be the best thing to use if your not fishing near brush or logs. Just off a bank or pier out to open water to fish for bass. I have had zero luck with a Texas rig past 2 days.
  8. I went bass fishing for the first time today for about 4 hours using a texas rig, and a spinner bait. Mainly had a texas rig on I didnt even get a nibble all day long. Any tips for fishing for bass in this water?
  9. I put 14lb Berkeley mono on it. Took it out to fish today with a texas rig, and 2 spinner baits. Caught nothing within 4 hours, but I did learn how to use the reel pretty well. Only had 2 bad backlashes but I got them out really fast, other then that all went smoothly,
  10. Awesome advice, I am going to go get some line now and practice for a hour or 2 in my yard before I leave for the weekend. Thanks everyone for the advice.
  11. Alright, What pound test mono should i go with. Here is the combo if that helps, I have the 6.4:1 gear and its the 7' MH pole. Reel is rated 12lb 120yards i know. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Pro-Qualifier-Reel/CarbonLite-Trigger-Rod-Baitcast-Combo-PQX10HLA/CL70MHTF/product/12041705055310/
  12. I am new to using a baitcaster, I have the BPS Pro Quailfier on a Carbon lite BPS 7' rod. Have pretty much no experience with a baitcaster. I set the brakes up right and everything. I had Spiderwire stealth braided 30lb test on it. Well first cast out in my yard to practice I birdnested it so bad I had to cut just about all the line out of the reel. My uncle then tell me well braided takes a bit of time to learn to cast properly that going with mono may be best sense I am just starting to use a baitcaster all together. Any tips on what type of line to go buy in the next 30-40 minutes before I head down to the lake for the weekend. Would like to get the hand of casting this so I dont have to use my old spinning rod and reel this weekend. Fluorocarbon, more braided or mono? I'll be bass fishing also if that helps, and I will probably be using a texas rig most of the day.

Not to be rude but all the thank yous are not needed. I have yet to be deployed or anything I am just a normal guy like every other solider out there. Its the job myself and all the other millions chose. Just like a guy who works at McDonald, or a Teacher. But I do appreciate everyone's welcoming, and even the thank yous.

College football wise auburn fan . But I rarely watch college I am a big time NFL fan. Green Bay Packers of course. This year they are going to be a scary team not only having Matthews and Rogers + all the new alabama players they picked up. My sargent and staff sargent already work me to death but its well worth it in the long run.
  15. Yeah i know I saw the combo today that why I asked if that was the rod they talked about. I was thinking of buying works, bullet weights, 4/0 EWG hooks and taking it out this sunday to our new river cabin and seeing how well I do with those. Then go back and buy some spinner bait and jigs.
