  1. Honestly, I like my swim jig trailers to be longer. But I'm assuming thrr is a nice action to it
  2. Was thinking of buying a pack for swim jig tralers
  3. i have two quality reels already, three if you count my spinning setup. So na na na na boo boo
  4. Kingkong, We are different people, but that's the reel I've been talking about. I caught a couple nice ones using it last night. Go to fishing reports and look up the thread "I'm going swim jigging" and you can see some pics

  6. Sorry the pics are sideways, if to d**n tired to fix them
  7. Pretty good night! Started off bad with me loosing my shad/white swim jig. But not to long after I caught a nice one using the black/ blue swim jig with a zoom craw trailer (the bass in day light). After that I switched to the bluegill swim jig with a single tail grub trailer. Caught a smaller bass but when I landed it, it came unhooked and flopped back to its home.. By this time all my trailers I had with me where shredded. So all I had left was a creature bait. I forget what it's called but the term multi-craw or multi-creature comes to mind, tho I'm probably way off. It's a dark purple color with black flakes....something like that. Anyway it's got good action to it and I rigged it on my bluegill swim jig and caught the last bass of the night (the bass in night pic). About that time it was getting late so I had to head home...gotta work early. I'll attach some pics. Btw, I might of found a nice combo with that bluegill/purple trailer. It was dark by then so maybe that did factor in. I dunno, worth a try again
  8. Though its a little hot, today after work I'm gonna bring my setup I use for casting, and I'm gonna bring three swim jigs with me. Shad/w white swim bait trailer, blue gill/w brown single tail grub trailer, and black n blue/w a craw trailer or creature. Report will come later. Hopefully with pics
  9. Yea ill post some pics when I get home from work today
  10. Catt, the $130 plus tax is the problem. Hopefully I'll find a Citica on clearance otherwise, I need some spinnerbaits, various plastics, could always grab some new jigs, and a scale. I guess I just wanted to know if a sub $100 reel is worth replacing that old lews. After reading everybody's replies and sleeping on it, I think I'd be better off getting some new tackle. Besides, as soon as the really cold weather starts to show, I'll be breaking out my spinning gear anyways
  11. I meant vertical.... Duh. The claws going up and down rather then flat. Kinda mimicking a tail fin
  12. Though I might give it a try on a black and blue swim jig this wknd. If I can get out.
  13. I've always had success with berkley chigger craw I've had no reason to change. They work well on my swim jigs as well. I've also had success with paddle tail swim baits, and single tail grubs. The options are endless.
  14. I'll spend the gift cards on tackle. Cat you show me a brand new Citica at dicks for $70 and I'll buy it!!! For sure
  15. Ya know Charlie Brown, I was thinking today after making this post, and I agree with you. I think I'm gonna keep it in use. There really isn't any reason not to. I did take it apart and give it my own cleaning with some very much needed help from some fellas on this forum, but maybe I'll send it away this winter and get an expert to look at it
  16. This is what I learned to use a baitcaster with as a kid. The reel is probably as old as I am, maybe older. I'm 33, btw. It also was my dads, who passed away almost a year ago, so it means a lot to me. It still casts really well, but being as old as it is, it has its faults. Could be smoother, easy to backlash, and ergonomics arent the best. It does still work very well, is very strong, and I still use it effectively. I have it paired up with a medium action fast tip tec-spec, that I use for everything except heavy jigging and light stuff. I like it for swim jigs, flukes, spinnerbaits, topwater, among other things. Know here is my dilema. I have $50 in gift cards at dicks that I have to use by the 15th. I'm also broke, because I just moved and for those of you that have done that latley, you would know it isnt cheap. So I was thinking about using these gift cards and replacing the reel with something more modern. I would be able to add about $20-$30 to the gift cards, but that would be literally it. I also need a new scale, and could always use new plastics, jigs, etc.... In your opinion fellas, what route would you take. Buy a new reel, or spend the gift cards on the new lures, etc... Idealy, I'd like to have the money for a new revo, but I'd be more into the silver max range. Also, I should add, I am NOT a brand specific kind of guy. any thoughts?
  17. I looked them up on St. croix website, and there are only very minor differences in each rod, and that's length. The spinnerbait rod has a longer handle, which I prefer, so some of the extra length comes in there. Given thtat, the tip of the rod is maybe 3-4 inches longer. If I would of known this I would of bought the spinnerbait rod in the first place. Personally, I think it's a marketing technique used to sell more rods. I like my jig rod to be really stout and stiff, and that's the reason I like st. Croix for jigging. I have other rods I use for different techniques
  18. Well as I mentioned in another thread I broke my jig rod last night. A 6'6" MH fast action mojo bass. Well I had a warranty, but the problem was I had lost the receipt. So I went to dicks today after work and they where great. Not only where they able to find my receipt in there system, they issued me a gift card right then and there. So I came home with a new rod for my Jig fishing. The only problem was they where out of the 6'6" jig/worm rods, so I bought the 7ft spinnerbait rod instead. The only difference between the two is being length. Why is that? I would think they call the longer one a spinnerbait rod because in theory you can cast further with the longer length. Doesn't matter to me though both got a lot of backbone, and I would think the longer rod would be better for flipping?pitching anyway.
  19. Very good point aavery2. I guess I wanted to be sure in case it slips my mind
  20. Well yesterday after work I had a pretty good day. Well not really day, lets just say a pretty good half hour, since my rod broke and had to pack it up. Im not going to get into how it broke, but lets just say I had a brain fart. My main jig rod is a mojo bass. I know some of you dont like this rod, but I do, and I plan on getting the same exact one once Im done the warranty process. I did loose my receipt but luckly I called dicks last night, wher I bought the rod, and they said since I used a gift card, and I have a reward points card, they will be able to print me out a copy. My spare rod, is a tec-spec medium action with a fast tip, which is a surprisingly nice rod for the price. This isnt ideal for a jig rod where I fish, but it will have to do. And besides, they where hitting the jig when i was swimming it, and the 50lb braid casts surprisingly well. I'm gonna go back today with a swim jig and get back at it, but I'll still have my flipping jig close by (in my pocket) So my question has to do with the reel. I have a revo s, and had the breaks set at pitching, since I was mainly pitching the jig around. If I keep the breaks set where they are, and start casting my swim jig around, so I run the chance of damaging the breaks, or at least creating premature wear? I was just curious. Any responses would be much apreciated, and thanks in advance guys/gals. DAS
  21. I know the general rule is to try to match your trailer to your jig. But the lake I fish has fairly stained water, and I've had the most success with darker color lures. Have any of you mixed and matched different color trailers? Today I was gonna get one of those booyah swim jigs with the triangle head. I was gonna try either the char/ black or black/ blue jig with a lighter color trailer. Maybe a white(ish) color, or maybe even a char color for the char/black jig. I'm gonna either buy a pack of havoc subwoofer, or a pack of beat shad. What are your thoughts on this fellas? I was thinking I'd get the high vis of the darker color jig plus the flash of the lighter trailer. Any experiences with this bait combo? Also I've heard a lot of folks like using the subwoofer with success, but what about the beat shad? Btw, money is tight so it's either or. I already have some lighter color swim jigs
  22. This has been my number one producing lure since April until now, and something tells me its going to produce throughout the year. A close second would have to be a greenish/white magnum fluke (forget the official color). And third would be a char/white swim jig with a white swim bait trailer. This fall, I'm thinking the big fluke and the swim jig are gonna get some more action. But I'll be sure to have that black/blue jig tied on my jig/worm rod near by at all times. Anybody else have similar experiences? One bait that seems to work year round
