Broke My Jig Rod And Have Some Questions Regarding My Backup And Reel

Featured Replies

Well yesterday after work I had a pretty good day. Well not really day, lets just say a pretty good half hour, since my rod broke and had to pack it up.

Im not going to get into how it broke, but lets just say I had a brain fart. My main jig rod is a mojo bass. I know some of you dont like this rod, but I do, and I plan on getting the same exact one once Im done the warranty process. I did loose my receipt but luckly I called dicks last night, wher I bought the rod, and they said since I used a gift card, and I have a reward points card, they will be able to print me out a copy.

My spare rod, is a tec-spec medium action with a fast tip, which is a surprisingly nice rod for the price. This isnt ideal for a jig rod where I fish, but it will have to do. And besides, they where hitting the jig when i was swimming it, and the 50lb braid casts surprisingly well. I'm gonna go back today with a swim jig and get back at it, but I'll still have my flipping jig close by (in my pocket)

So my question has to do with the reel. I have a revo s, and had the breaks set at pitching, since I was mainly pitching the jig around. If I keep the breaks set where they are, and start casting my swim jig around, so I run the chance of damaging the breaks, or at least creating premature wear? I was just curious.

Any responses would be much apreciated, and thanks in advance guys/gals.

I have a older generation Revo S with the brakes set that way.  I haven't noticed any issues.  Although its not my most used set up I have, it has been around a few years now.  I don't claim to be a expert on them though.

Hopefully one of the guys who fishes them hard will weigh in for you.

I don't think you will have any damage, maybe a little more wear on the brake tabs than usual.  The pitch brakes are designed to provide braking at much lower spool speeds than the regular casting brakes.

Why not just adjust the brakes to how you are fishing?
