  1. Imsure that a drop shot rig would work for browns, especially in lakes. I have never rigged a drop shot for browns but i use a 3 way swivel rig with a rapala. The set up is very similar though.
  2. In MN, i just walk down to my dock. ive got a boat with aces to over 26,000 fishable acres through a river chain including a 16,000 acre lake within about a 15 minute boat ride. And hundreds, if not thousands of lakes within a 2 hour drive. Sometimes i will drive up to lake of the woods MN/CA, which is about a 3-4 hour drive. Or the french river in canada which is about a 5-6 hour drive. In wyoming, anywhere from 1/2 mile to 200 miles depending on where i want to go. But usually within 20 miles average.
  3. Sorry mods, but i read the comments after the thread was locked. I was probably about 6'1'' in the picture. I do remember for a fact that it was 24'' right on the nose using a soft tape. I am now about 6'3'' and 225 lbs with a 19 inch bass from a similar lake in my profile pic as reference. I have also caught multiple 20ish'' and a 22'' fish from the same lake as the 24'' not too mention a 44 inch pike, and 28 inch walleye from the same lake. High fat food fish Cisco is the primary forage fish in this particular lake. And honestly, i have only fished this lake a handful of times. I think the 'for sure' state record is still swimming. I caught the 24'' 22'' and two 20'' bass in probably a combined 80 hours of fishing. Not bad for an area where the growing season is about 90 days. Here is the fish 24'' again BTW. And here is a 19.5'' bass from the exact same lake.
  4. the bass ive fished in MN really dont care. ive had many bass hit HUGE baits while muskie fishing. usually reaction bites as soon as the bait splashes the water. Last year i caught a little 15 inch bass while casting a Pounder Bulldawg. Its a big plastic muskie bait that literally weights a pound haha. But, when finesse fishing structure or when fishing is tough i go with minimal splash.
  5. Yeah it really does. I have seen pictures of a muskie that was caught 3 times and 2 times by the same person. It had grown like 7 inches between the first time it was documented being caught and the third time. I have also seen another muskie that was caught once at 52 inches and again at 54 by the same person, years apart.
  6. good point, no offense taken.
  7. I have just recently turned onto carp fishing. I hooked into a 30 pounder eariler this week and had to put my trolling motor in reverse so he wouldnt pull me to the middle of the lake. I havent fly fished for them yet, but will later this week. They fight like a runaway frieght train.
  8. Im living up in Southeast Wyoming and am catching a lot of fish in the 15 inch range. 19 is my PB so far this summer. I'm hoping to make a few trips down to steamboat to fish smallmouth in the Yampa.
  9. I also live by a golf course. I golf it occasionally. Ive always thought about packing a colapsing fishing pole in my golf bag and taking a few casts while playing a round. Im sure they might take it a little differently if i pay to be on property than if i just hopped the fence. Rumor has it its got big bass.
  10. Nice fish. Sure it takes longer inbetween bites when fishing big lures but its well worth it when they finaly eat it.
  11. Personally i think it really depends on the rod. When using a 6'6'' medium rod, i will set hard. when flippin with a medium/heavy fast action rod it doesnt take nearly as much to get a solid hook set.
  12. That would be fun to see. Like others have said, ive only seen smallish bass jump. I have had big pike/muskie get some serious hight while fishing topwater though.
  13. find the slack water. fish behind rocks, in eddies, behind tree stumps, inside turns. But if its a creek that is normally slow moving water you are probably better off waiting for the current to calm down.
  14. Pure catch and release is the way to go.
  15. I caught this probably about 9 years ago while pike fishing. Unfortunatly it was before i understood the importance of catch and release. I never weighed it but it was an honest 24 inches. I wonder if this could have been a record fish. The current state record fish is 23.5'' and 8lbs 15oz Sorry its blurry, its a picture of a picture.
  16. I was ripping cranks through weeds and snagged into a 25 pound carp earlier this week. I had to put my trolling motor in reverse to keep from being pulled to the middle of the lake, haha. Ive caught some really nice pike and walleye while bass fishing in MN.
  17. Lake of the woods smallmouth fishing is a lot of fun. Soooo much structure. I've muskie fished LOTW for about 10 years now, but i always make a day or two chasing smallies. Ive caught some really nice fish over rock piles. Pulled out a 22 inch smallie last summer.
