  1. WELL i AM FISHING ABOUT 3 TIMES A WEEK. SO THATS NOT IT.
  2. ok, so I am using stren mono 12 lb. test on my bait caster, and been on there for the begining of the year. The line is curling, and getting wraped around my rod tip. So do I need to replace the line on this? still trying to figure this stuff out. Thanks
  3. I was getting a ton of hits and the bass taking my frog only to spit it back out or loose it. I then started to look at the frog design, and took some needle nose pliers, and curved the hooks a little more outwards, and a little up some, and even took a little off the legs. Now I use the boohyah pad crasher, and man what a difference it made. I caught more bass by doing this. one morning had a total of 19 strikes hits, and caught 12, as before I would not have had that many bass in the kayak. Still weedlees, but requires less clamping of the bass to set the hooks better. Just my thoughts on how I improved my landing bass. Sometimes they would take it under water and you could feel them only to see them come off. Try this with the p,liers and see if that helps some. Worked for me, so may help you some.
  4. I bought one of the self inflatable ones. It is light, not bulky and will inflate if you go in water or manually inflate it. on sale $80.00, like it, now when I fish with my kayak i have more freedom and do not get hot. Best money I spent for me and my kayak.
  5. I have thought about trying those, talked to a couple of guys that have used them. But they say they do not last very long with bass ? Just try to decide if i should spend the money on them, just for them to last just 1 to 2 fish. What is every ones thoughts?
  6. I have rod harness, clips onto your yak and if it goes over, you pull it up.
  7. Yes I have a depth finder on my kayak, so I need to put that on there and hit the deep spots . Have never had luck with worms, but wanted to start using them.
  8. Well been out several times right as sun is coming up and man the Bass here in Southwestern Indiana are not doing much. Only caught this one this morning on a frog, but the past 3 times I have been out it has been very hard. Still learning these Bass, do I need to go deep for them ? I have tried a lot of lures, maybe not the ones they want? Any help would be great on how to go after these guys in my Kayak, I do have a fish ,depth finder . What do you guys use? Thanks for any help, Brian
  9. I just purchased a Lews Speed Spool, price is $99.99, but got mine at American Legacy for $79.99 on sale, very light weight, smooth and is an awesome reel I must say.
  10. I just got the Lews Speed Spool, and man it is sweet. light and quiet, I am use to my old reel having several back lashes each outing, but never once with this reel, I am very impressed with this reel, and will not buy any other. I got mine on sale at American Legacy, it is normally $99.00, but they have it on sale for $79.99, so hard to pass it up.
  11. Ok, So I went with a Lews speed spool SSG1SH baitcaster, they were on sale for $79.99 from $99.00, and then went with an Abu Garcia, Vendetta Heavy medium 7 ft rod/ The reel is 7.5:1 gear , the guys at American Legacy told me for what I want to spend, this would be the best for me to get going on. I paid $125.00 for both, so will try it out in the morning.
  12. So looking at this rod, Lew's Team Lews HM85 Million Graphite Casting Rod, and if I go with it, what is a good baitcasting reel to put on it for maybe 50.00
  13. So I have been fishing with a shakespear baitcaster and ugly stick rod, paid 55.00 new for the combo, and tho must say, it works decent, I find that I need to get something a little better to fish with. So I know this is not much, but would like to keep the cost about $125.00 for baitcating reel and 1 piece rod, I am thinking a 6'10-7'0 long rod for bass. Friends say Shimano and Lews are what they use and I have casted a couple of times with a lews, and was nice. My question is, what are some good ones for that price that may be a good combo. Any help would be great. Thanks
  14. That river you fish in, is it Sugar creek river? I have fished that river and had fun catching smallies on it.
  15. Yes, that is what I was wanting to know about. Lake Cumberland. I heard it was pretty good but no clue. Just love fishing for the smallies.
  16. Has anyone fished that lake for Small mouths? I love fishing for them and heard it is a good lake for them. Since I live in South Western Indiana, I have to travel to get to fish for them at least 3 hours. Wanted to try that lake out. Thanks
  17. Here is my kayak I fish out of. I bought this Perception prescador sport for fishing in November. I am a tall, 6'4 250 man and wanted something that would be good for my size. I like it and get around in it very well. installed a rod holder and fish finder.
  18. Well, after all the research and looking I found a new hummingbird pirahnamax 175 for $60.00 still in the case. So bought that and a small rechargeable battery. Thanks for the help.
  19. I just ordered the battery and charger, all with shipping came to 25.00. so not bad at all. I just decided to do it the way everyone does it and go with it. Thanks for tall the help.
  20. Ok, sounds good. So the rechargeable batteries like shown above. Can you use a regular car battery charger that does 12 volt or do you need to buy the small chargers that they sell for a couple of bucks? Sorry, new at this stuff. Thanks
  21. I just bought a hummingbird piranha 175 fish finder to put on my kayak. I would like the smallest battery pack I can use for weight reasons. So can I use an 8 AA battery pack for my fish finder? will that power it or should I get a rechargeable battery pack for like a remote car? Thanks
  22. Really, well I understand everyone is saying. so a fish finder may help if I am over an area and want to see if they are there. So ther smaller fish/depth finders can run off the little 12 volt batteries? Sorry, new at the electronics area and have no clue. So i want something that when I find a place in my kayak to fish, i can check to see if they are down there. Thats why did not want to go very much on price wise, but am open to all suggestions. Thank You
  23. Ok, would like to get a inexpensive fish finder for my kayak, big battery is out. But have seen some hand held fish finders that use AA batteries. So question is, has anyone used these? or something under $100.00 and does not need a big battery to put in my kayak. I am just wanting something that will show me that fish are there, nothing fancy. Any help would be great. Thank you
  24. I was reall happy catching a small one that was 8 inches long, I will say they fight and I love how all of them came up out of the water. Man this small mouth fishing has me hooked, I may have to give up hunting and do more small mouth fishing. The small ones fought good also, just did not think they would fight like that. I mean, I catch 1-2 lb. largemouth bass all the time down here out of lakes, and they do not fight that strong, I was really impressed, but I guess when they fight the current all the time, instead of just floating around some moss, they have to be strong. But I am now staring to look at other states to fish for these bad boys, I am hooked on them.
  25. Thanks, I did put the smallie on my forearm, and measured my arm today,20 inches was his lenght, and now that the excitement has settled down some, I am sure he was at least 2 lbs. I am used to cathing largemouths down here all the time that range from 2-3 lbs., and I do know it was more close to 2lb. range. Still excited about it, and I am hooked, trying to plan my next trip. I have to drive 3 -5 hours to get to these rivers, but after the first trip, it was worth it. So you guys that fish for smallies on a regular basis, what all do you use, I know use what you use for largemouth but smaller, so do you guys use soft bait for them? Small mouth bass fight more harder than the large mouth I am use to catching, even the 3 lb. largemouth I caught last week, did not fight half the amount that this big smallie did, maybe due to the smallie was in current on the river. Thanks for the compliments and no, you guys did not burst my bbble, just brought me down to reality.
