  1. Wow, imagine that trip if you guys actually knew what you doing. Nice catch
  2. 78 ghost is my workhorse.100 aurora brown does very well too. After reading here I should give the American Shad more time. Thanks C22
  3. Being aware of the "pushing sensation" will catch you a lot of extra fish, particularly with crank baits. I`m glad some of you picked up on what I was trying to describe. I was out today and didn`t get that special feeling even once. C22
  4. I landed a 34" striper as I drifted under a bridge. With fish still flopping in the net, I hear a voice from straight above me on the bridge ask "did you catch that here" People ask me what are you fishing for =my standard answer "because I like it" A met a warden once that didn`t see the humor=whatever. C22 One more=While fishing stripers near a "darn" ,you know one of those big structures that holds back river water,I got snagged .I`m rippin and jerkin the rod,the sassy shad comes free and right away a nice striper whacks it.Curious,I let the lure hit the bottom on the next cast, rip it up and stop, another striper hits it.After another 3 or 4 of the same thing,I put my buddy on the pattern. We started slammin `em good.Overheard from another boat, one guy says"man those guys are catching a lot of fish. The response form the other guy " yeah ,but they`re missing a lot too."

I fish hard jerks a lot in the winter, about 60% of the time. The obvious strikes are a no brainer. But many times I just set the hook with out any real sign that I need to do so,and it is fish on.I fished today and the wind and cold were brutal, however tree times, I felt the need to set and bass were on.The line had about a 2' to 3 ' arc with lots of boat movement, yet I knew? I don`t watch line nearly as much as the past, its mostly touch. I use 15# braid w/ 12 # floro leader on moderately priced rods that don`t offer an overwhelming advantage imo. Does anyone else manage to catch bass under these mysterious conditions. Some time do you just know. C22
  6. Ha Ha ,fun topic Two things that are not a myth for me. The bite of the day is usually on what I have only one of==or only a critical few of. Once I get plenty of a color ,bass quit eating it. No bananas for me.I won`t even throw yellow lures.. I heard of divers refusing to go back in the water around my local d**n because of what they saw. C22
  7. Cool,1`ll keep that in mind if I come up.Thanks C22
  8. That's wild, didn`t know paddle fish are in there.
  9. I heard Straub`s Beer Co in St Marys laided off two workers since I don`t get up there much anymore. Sorry for that. I used to fish the river at Warren, some ,not much.
  10. I`ve been to Kinzua many times even though I live far away. I like to chase the eyes north of de border. Chances are you know the Bell boys that I fish and stay with up that way. I have a few interesting stories to tell if we ever meet.. C22
  11. I have to take exception to the below 60 deg statement. Maybe that applies to southern waters. Over the years I have caught so many smallies that were jammed full of crawdads and minnows with many still visible in their throats,in water temps from 36 to 50deg. Taking in to account the aggravation bite theory, then guess I have run across a lot of ticked off bass. No,the bass feed heavily for the winter. The least desirable temp for me to bass fish is the 62 to 53 range in the fall when temps are getting cooler. Fronts affect the winter bite too,so apparently they get more temperamental during that time? C22
  12. Ha ha,you know darn well who/where I am.7925, Keep it tween us C22
  13. I don`t know about smb & lmb, but a friend and I proved time and time again that stripers could be color selective at night . We used to throw the old Rebel fast tracks, primarily in blk silver, blue silver and purple silver. Many times they would take one and not any others at all. Next trip it could be totally different. It cost us a fortune to stay current with those critters. C22
  14. JT,I used to wet wade a river just like you described. The smallies were nuts over 1/4 & 3/8 spinner baits. As mentioned ,eddies and break water objects seem to be the best spots. The long deep pools never seemed to hold much ,as least in the summer. Don`t know why Tubes did well too. Loved to fish there on the weekends. The local canoe company would drop off many inexperienced boaters and at one particular fast rapid bend, they would upset and the girls would often emerge without their tops. Didn`t bother the smallies though,I could cast right behind the canoes and catch them. C22
  15. Thanks for the heads up, I`ll never go there. Big crappies hate LC jerks too.
  16. After a few visits to the local donut a fellow realized that if he ordered a raisin muffin, the good looking girl with a very short skirt had to get on a ladder to reach for it.As he was catching an eyeful, another guy comes in to see whats going on,so he orders a rasin muffin too. While she was up the ladder an old guy walks in and she looks at him and says "is yours raisin too". He says " no ,but its tingling a little bit" C22
  17. AKA tog and blackfish. Very structure oriented critters that live in rocks, reefs and wrecks. They eat crabs ,clams, mussels and much more that grows them into one of the best tasting fish on the east coast.Kinda tricky to hook sometime and put forth a nice battle. C22
  18. My pb crappie, 15"+ came on a whacky rigged 4" Senko 3' under a float with a 6" chop on the water.
  19. I use a Star Rod 7'==3/8 to 2 oz that handles stripers large and small.30Lb Slick 8 PP with 30 lb floro leader on a 70 series reel.
  20. Order a blank mold from Do It Mold Co. Or buy some 1/2" plate from Ebay to work with . Its fairly cheap and some sellers will cut to size. Buy a Dremel tool to carve and shape your idea. C22
  21. I hear ya Bigbill, sorry for the loss. John was a friend I lost touch with for about 5 yrs.The thought kept running thru my mind over and over to go see him. When I finally made up my mind to call him, his wife told me he had passed away. I felt bad for not acting sooner. A point here is that we are not getting younger and time does seem to fly.If you have a notion that you should do some thing or go see someone, don`t let the opportunity slip away, because it may be lost. C22
  22. No close second for me. I started super glueing just about all plastics onto my jig heads 25 yrs ago. They last longer and don`t slide on the hook. To be more exact "Pros Soft Bait Glue",while expensive, is the very best. Stuff cotton inside tubes to hold a liquid scent longer. C22
  23. 10/4 affirmative
  24. I get a lot of them on a LC 78. I tie a 1/8 jig,avocado/with a spritz of orange and do well with it. They eat a large variety of lures including silver buddies. C22
