  1. Using a shimano 1000 reel with a M 6' ugly stick lite. Works quite wonderfully
  2. Caught a big one on Calling Panther last weekend. Officially 25.5" and supposedly 7# 4oz. Any of you guys getting out in this summer heat?
  3. On the river, cast it diagonally up stream and reel back in a J. It's against river fishing "rules", but I get a lot of great bites when the minnow is swimming up stream.
  4. I have a Medium spinning rod use for Shaky heads. Works great for this application. Would I have the same success tossing a 1/4 jig or a finesse jig with this setup??
  5. Careful work with a lighter will mend a senko back together temporarily.
  6. It's killer on Calling Panther! Caught a couple nice fish there this morning on a shakey head w/ trick worm
  7. I was fishing at lunch today and saw some minnows being chased to the surface. There were a few large splashes, but I never got a good look at the predator. I tossed a soft plastic, got a bite, and tried to set the hook. The line flew back towards me with a clean slice through my brush hog. It made me wonder if snapping turtles could be responsible for this. Do snapping turtles chase bait fish??
  8. Caught this baby during lunch today. Literally the smallest bass I've caught with a rod and reel. Set the hook and the fish came flying out of the water!
  9. Thanks brionballard. Having a little difficulty learning what works best in Mississippi but I'm enjoying the adventure. My best luck has been on Mirror Lake on Lakeland and Calling Panther. It's intimidating trying to fish on a lake as big as the Reservoir, but I'm gonna try checking out the smaller lakes around Madison. Right on Jacob. Believe it or not, I have never caught a fish on a topwater frog, but with all those half submerged logs I'm sure they're a great choice. I couldn't catch anything on a soft plastic swimbait, so on my way home I tried the trusty senko and caught my fish on that. I also found a couple deep water crankbaits on the bank. Seems like a popular choice. Have you ever had any luck closer to the dam? Maybe we can make it there together before the summer is over. Good luck!
  10. Thanks for the replies and advice. I got out to Calling Panther lake this past weekend and trudged along the bank. Caught a little 1.5lber to make my day worth it, but I got infested with chiggers. Those f***ers are nasty!
  11. Thanks Joe, we should definitely try to get out one of these weekends!
  12. Thanks! My job has me moving all over, but I haven't said my final farewell to good ol Florida!
  13. Just moved to Mississippi recently and I'm wondering how everyone's fishing is going. I just caught a nice 2lber in the Jackson area.
  14. Try Snakeheads down in Coral Springs! Or you could try down in Davie too. I've caught some nice peacocks down off side canals from Griffin Rd.
  15. Missed a nice snakehead today during lunch. 30lb power pro didn't get the job done. What's everyones experience with fishing line for snakehead? I'm thinking about going with 80lb power pro, although a wire leader may work just as well.
  16. Florida is great. The shore fishing opportunities can't be beat w/ all of our canals.
  17. I'd say that since you were fishing in ultra clear waters, the bass didn't bite because the bass also spotted you. I think it's possible the line color had an effect but that it was more pronounced because the fish knew you were there.
  18. I actually cast a baitcaster with my right thumb on the spool and my left hand below on the rod. When the lure hits the water, I slide my left hand up and right hand to the reel.
  19. My favorite is wading in the river, lazily fishing for smallmouth on a hot summer afternoon. Floating down the river on a tube with the cooler tube closely following behind isn't bad either.
  20. I saw a father and son fishing there from an SUV and thought maybe that's the Martin guy from BassResource!
  21. So there's a sunken something (sign, plywood) 10 feet off the bank and this fish has been lurking around it for months. I'd see her huge silhouette against the white backdrop and start fumbling my lures getting my line tangled up. A few times she followed the Rat-L-Trap, KVD 1.5, brush hog, but I could never tempt her..until now! Big victory for me lol but no measurements. I was already late returning to work b/c I kept saying "1 more cast"
  22. I've been after this fish for months!! Hit the black senko despite this cold weather. Not a bad lunch break!
  23. What's your stradic setup Lou? I have a 3000 stradic but it seems like overkill for the bass
  24. Caught my first nice fish of the year today after work (casual Friday lol.) Weather has been up and down, so I'm happy I hooked into a nice one finally.
