Peacock Mousing 8/26/23
Enjoyed your write up! Love to see other people getting after it with the fly in south florida canals. I've caught two bullseye (they're calling it goldline now) snakeheads on the fly. Caught using EP Bluegill flies I tied. They were both caught sight fishing, so keep working on those casts out to 50 feet. Let us know when you catch one, I would love to see it.

Palm Coast (Hammock Dunes) Bank Fishing Recommendations
I'm willing to bet those ponds are pretty salty, being between the inlet and the beach. I would check out the beach and see what's out there. You can catch anything on flukes and other "bass" soft plastics. Just make sure to rinse your gear

SE FL Bank Locations
Check out the snakehead thread in 'Other Fish Species' subforum. There is so much information on this forum and online. As a general hint, look for public parks and walking paths for legal fishing spots

Shore fishing the lakes and canals in the Weston, Davie area?
Senko is always a good choice and i've caught my fair share with them. People also like the culprit curly tail worms with a bullet sinker. I also like mini brush hogs, flukes, and paddle tails for soft plastics. My secret weapon was the Yozuri 3DS minnow and the small Yozuri pins minnow. 3DS is best with a walk the dog retrieve and it's an absolute killer. Same goes for the zara spook jr topwater bait - especially good in the morning and evening. Those are my go-to's when fishing the South FL area. Just cover water and try new spots, and you'll find fish no doubt.

Shore fishing the lakes and canals in the Weston, Davie area?
Check out google maps! Start with parks and shopping centers with water around/through it. I used to fish the area and would scroll through google maps and save GPS coordinates to try out. Weston, Davie, Sunrise, Coral Springs, FLL. They all have water access and peacock bass, among many other species.

Anyone Here Microfish?
I just use a 6ft section of bamboo collected outside (longer would be better for extra reach) tanago hooks or size 26 nymphs and dry flies when fishing bait it's either dough or tiny worm flecks main line is 10lb, with a 2lb test leader The most important is the tanago hooks in my opinion, so the hook with actually fit in some of these minnows mouths

#1 is golden silverside, and I believe #2 is a dollar sunfish. Bluespotted still on my list too!

Anyone Here Microfish?
Sometimes we get tired of wearing our arms out catching snook, tarpon, and redfish down here in Florida ? Here are some from last weekend.

Anyone Here Microfish?
I'm in central FL, but there is definitely great microfishing down south. I know the Tamiami Trail is a popular "spot". Retention ponds might be limited in species, so look for waters that are interconnected with the bigger system.

Anyone Here Microfish?
I really enjoy micro fishing. There are lots of interesting species around small blackwater creeks, swamps, and spring-fed streams in Florida. It's a perfect intersection of my interests in fishing, aquariums, and hiking.

Snakehead Fishing
It's really fun to fish for snakeheads after the fry have hatched. In Florida, this is generally in the summer after the rainy season begins and the weeds proliferate. The parents will hold their ground and defend their fry instead of bolting on first sight. I spent some time watching snakehead fry being guarded by their parents, and they were getting absolutely harassed by bluegills and small bass. It's neat because the fry have to come up for air every minute or two, and when they simultaneously hit the surface, it's like a sprinkler hitting the water. I've had the best luck in Coral Springs and my PB was caught on a bluegill fly. They're a really awesome fish and maybe the hardest species to reliably catch in those S FL canals. Go give fry fishing a shot this summer. Most people hate or are indifferent to snakeheads, so nobody will give you crap for fishing the spawners.

Ross Barnett Reservoir
Agree with the advice from other posts. Go to Calling Panther. I lived in MS for a year and pulled my PB from that lake. I did really well with shaky heads and junebug trick worm, but obviously many ways to get it done. Good luck!

Snakehead fishing in South Florida - looking for boatless locations without trespassing
There's like 4 or 5 spots in the response you quoted! Check out google maps, pick a handful of spots in those areas, and check them out. If you pick any of the spots mentioned above and cover ground, I know you'll find fish. The key is to cover ground. Good luck!

Peacock bass
Peacock bass are thick anywhere below Ft Lauderdale. Hop on google maps and look for spots with shoreline access. Mark 5 or 10 on the map, hop in the car, and check em out. good luck!

Harper's Ferry and Vicinity---Tips?
Try Potoma Wayside Park. I stopped by a few years ago while driving through. Caught a few nice smallies and saw a carp too. Just remember to be careful because you've got 3 state lines so it's easy to get on the wrong side without a license.

snook vs largemouth bass, which species fights better pound for pound?
I feel your pain! They're really sensitive to changes in tide and a lot of times when the tide starts falling, their feeding window opens and they turn on. The ones around docks know the game tho, they're tough to fool. At least with current, it conceals your presence and forces them into a decision as food floats by.

snook vs largemouth bass, which species fights better pound for pound?
That's awesome. Where along the west coast are you to be finding peas? I heard they've made it over to south of Naples, but didn't know you could get steady action. Hopefully they survive the next cold snap. If you find those 3, you might find some juvenile tarpon nearby too. It's tough to say who wins that fight.

Davie, FL - Help me crush an untouched honey hole!
Any luck fishing? Try bank beating the canal off griffin road. You can even try the spillway, especially if the water is flowing. The secondary canals branching off the East-West Griffin road canal are excellent too. Peacocks may be spawning around this time.. you may also run into freshwater snook and tarpon, and of course bass and grass carp. Peacock love the sunshine and heat, so that's your best bet when the topwater action dies and sun comes up.

snook vs largemouth bass, which species fights better pound for pound?
First off, we don't catch too many largemouth bass between 24-35 inches. Nobody is really targeting snook below 24 inches. Say both fish are 18". A largemouth probably weighs around 3 lbs while a snook weighs around 2 lbs. Snook are more slender, while a largemouth bass are deep and broad. It's a weird comparison to make, but between the two, I'd say bonefish fight the hardest pound for pound.

Big Bass Commentary
Looking for some input on this Homer Circle article. "bass display no preference regarding sunlight." "bigger bass-those in the 6- to 10-pound class-usually stay sequestered in one hangout away from the bank most of the year except when they move into the shallows to spawn or when a special feeding opportunity presents itself." How do we connect the dots here.. It's not true that bass display no preference regarding sunlight. It's just that sometimes there's an opportunity too good to pass up. When the bluegills are spawning in the shallows, they'll tolerate the midday sun for the hunting opportunity. Otherwise, they stay in their offshore hangouts in less bright light. I don't want to pick apart Lembeck's takeaways, but there's a handful that raise some questions.

Thank you sir! Sorry to blow up your thread but I figure it's a good place to discuss snakeheads. Also, you have a keen eye.
