  1. Just found out that a lake near me has these. What baits/tactics should I use to target them? How do they fight compared to a largemouth or smallmouth?
  2. Needs a treble in his side
  3. Most of my bass fishing involves river bass, and they are indeed better fighters. As for peeling drag, most bass over 4 pounds are capable of doing so on my typical light spinning setups, though usually only for a short run or 2.
  4. On light spinning tackle bass can indeed peel drag, but whatever bud?
  5. It seems to me like the largemouth bass here in florida are better at peeling drag and change directions more often than the ones I used to catch up north, though I would say the northern bass had a bit more stamina and were more prone to jump.
  6. They are great fighters thats for sure.
  7. My buddy owns a house just south of Naples, and about 10 minutes south from his house is a canal that has peacock bass, channel cats, various sunfish species, largemouth, cichlids, tilapia, and yes, juvie poon. Those small tarpon are a hoot on light tackle, i've had them jump 8 feet out of the water, and they make powerful runs as well. Probably my favorite fish to catch in that area. I don't get to fish there often though, as it's about a 2 hour drive south 4 me. Have a good day!
  8. Yup, love being able to catch snook and bass in the same areas. One area that i I fish i can also catch peacock bass along with snook and largemouth. Peacock bass are awesome.
  9. It's actually pretty simple bud. Take a 5 pound snook, and 5 pound largemouth, which one fights better on similar tackle?
  10. Oh yeah it certianly put a sizeable dent in the snook pop, but some folks have told me they they aren't even worth fishing 4 anymore and that they won't recover, which is pessimistic nonsense. I'm north of u btw, so they didn't get hit quite as hard by the red tide as hard where i fish.
