  1. Thanks. I didn't know about that store. I'll definitely try to visit that store some time soon.
  2. What store did you buy it from? I'm in west central Indiana and in the market for a fishing kayak. The local Gander Mountain doesn't have much of a selection and I'm thinking of making a trip to Indy or around Indy if I can find a store that sales nice fishing kayaks.
  3. The Ride 115 looks nice. Can one person load it on top of a truck or car with racks by himself/herself?
  4. I bought one of those wacky rigging tools with o-rings so I hope to start doing more wacky rigging.
  5. I now have access to two or three nice sized strip pit lakes/ponds and four or five smaller strip pit ponds here in my party of Indiana. These are part of the local chapter of the Izaak Walton League, I joined a few weeks ago. I have a canoe to use on these strip pits too. I have mostly done bank fishing at a big state park reservoir and a small city park pond. So these strip pits at Izaak Walton are new to me. The water is very clear and there's a ledge that runs out five or ten feet then it drops down deep. I was told my another member that the water is clear on the lakes and it can be hard to get the big bass to bite. Are there any good secrets or hints when it comes to fishing deep strip pit lakes for bass? Do bass usually hang out on-top of the ledges in shallow water, near the ledges, at the bottom of ledges, or in the middle of lakes in deep water? The shallow parts also have weeds growing under the water. When I fished from my canoe for the first time yesterday my Texas rigged plastic worm kept getting caught in the weeds when I would cast in the very shallow parts. How do you fish those shallow weedy parts without getting hung up? I'm a mostly plastic worm fisherman. Do crank baits work good in strip pits? Spinner baits? Etc...? Thanks!
  6. I just got back using my 16 foot canoe at a nice lake/pond. Me and my brother went. I'm pretty sure I want a one person fishing kayak now. The thing is I need something light enough so I can load it and unload it all by myself. The local dicks sporting goods store as some Perception kayaks. Are Perceptions good fishing kayaks?
  7. I would probably use a fishing kayak (if I buy one) mostly on smooth ponds and lakes. The club I belong to only allows battery powered trolling motors and nothing larger. If I do buy one what size should I go for and what weight would be best? I was looking at some Wilderness Systems Ride 115 and it weighs 76 pounds. Their 135 weighs 82 pounds. My sixteen foot mad river canoe weighs 72 pounds.
  8. Wow. Dragging kayaks through woods to small ponds sounds like awesome fun! I'm definitely going to check out fishing kayaks.
  9. I keep coming up with questions. lol. I was watching a couple of kayak fishing videos and they showed kayaks being drug up hills/through woods/etc... Are fishing kayaks strong enough to do that without damaging them? I joined the local Izaak Walton League and now have access to two nice sized lakes/ponds and three or four decent sized smaller ponds. Some of them are more in the woods and there are trails to them I would have to drag a kayak to them. They would be great for kayaks though, I bet.
  10. If a trolling motor is not a great option for a fishing kayak then what about one of those standing kayaks that let you sit or stand up and fish? Is a kayak that lets you stand up worth the money?
  11. Would a trolling motor be better suited for a canoe?
  12. Would a kayak like this be any good for bass fishing? http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=21525966&cp=4406646.4413993.4417832.4417969 or http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=21426366&cp=4406646.4413993.4417832.4417969
  13. Are there any decent fishing kayaks in the $300 to $400 range? I want one that is light enough so one person (me) can load it and unload it. I can lift heavy weight but I don't want to use all my strength up loading and unloading a kayak. Also, I want one were I can put a trolley motor on.
  14. I know bass eyes are not the same as human eyes. But it's odd to hear you all say throw black lures at night! I believe all of you. But what is the reasoning? Does the black cause a darker shadow when the bass are looking up at it? What happens if the lure was completely white or yellow?
  15. I don't only have a baitcaster. I have spinning reels to that I use. Some one mentioned Texas Rigged worms to use at night. What other lures are recommended when fishing at night? When using plastic worms at night, do you want to use green colored worms or bright colors like red or is it better to use darker colored worms like black worms? Also, what about spinner baits and crainkbaits? Thanks
  16. Hi all! I recently joined the local Izaak Walton League and now have access to some very nice strip pit lakes/ponds. They are a fishing canoe/kayaker's heaven. I have a two person canoe but I've been watching videos of fishing kayaks and they look really fun. So I have a few questions: What is more versatile - a one person fishing kayak or one person canoe? If you had to recommend a one person craft to a newbie - would it be a one person kayak or one person canoe? Can I pick up a new and good fishing kayak for under eight hundred dollars? If I do get a fishing kayak I would like to eventually put one of those battery powered motors on it. Thanks!
  17. I need to get a kayak for my nephew who weighs 320 pounds. What is a nice but low cost fishing kayak for that kind of weight?
  18. I recently joined the local Izaak Walton League and went fishing at the ponds/lakes the last two evenings. Since it's close by I can stay later in the evening. This evening I stayed (bank fishing) to around 8:30pm. The moon was covered with clouds and it was so dark I could not see my lure I was throwing land in the water. I was worried I would get backlashes in my bait caster since I could not see when the lure would hit the water and I should put my thumb on the reel to stop it from moving. So when you are bass fishing at night, how do you do it? Wait for a full moon with no clouds? Thanks
  19. Thirty five pounds? Wow.
  20. I still consider myself a newbie fisherman. I started fishing for bass back in early spring. I've been bank fishing and I use plastic worms 99% of the time. My collection of plastic worms is growing. One of the reasons I love throwing them is because they are basically cheap. I can afford a four dollar or so back of plastic worms twice a week. Anyway, with my collection growing the weight is growing too. I'm wondering what do you all do when it comes to your large collections of plastic worms? Do you try to take them all or leave some at home? I'm at the point where I might take out all my hard baits (a few jigs, a few spinner baits, two crank baits) and replace them with more plastic worms. Basically, only carry plastic lures - worms and lizards and cray fish lures along with hooks and bullet sinkers and that's it. Are any of you total plastic worm/lizard fisherman and don't take anything else along? I recently joined a chapter fo the Izaak Walton League that has a couple of nice sized ponds/lakes and smaller ponds. I can't wait to get the canoe out try my jigs and spinner baits and crank baits from the canoe on those lakes. I'm really interested to see if these non plastic worms will actually work in good ponds that have good sized bass. Or will find out what I think is going to happen - my plastic worms will still out catch all other lures I have.
  21. Yeah, those Plano boxes are way over priced.
  22. I have a Mad River Explorer canoe with wood seats. I weigh around 170 and the seats hold up fine. I was wondering thought - what is the maximum weight of these kind of seats? I have a friend who is on the large size, plus 200 pounds. I was wanting to take him canoeing/fishing but I'm not sure the seats can handle the weight. Anybody have a Mad River or other canoe with wood seats and know how much weight they can handle?
  23. The thing is - all those plastic worms/lures are adding up in weight! lol. I'm sure you all already know that. I figured I could save some weight by taking only a two or three plastic worms out of their bags and putting them in one Plano container. I started out with a tackle box but I got tired carrying that thing around I weight it and it came in around ten pounds. So I bought a tackle bag that holds only four Plano boxes. One box has hooks and sinkers and swivels. The second plano box is my main plastic worm box, the third one holds plastic lizards and more worms, and the last one are hard baits - jigs and spinner baits and a crank bait. Really, I've been catching all my bass on plastic worms and a few lizards. Only caught one bass using a jig. Sort of caught a bass using a spinner bait. Caught a small bass using a rooster tail. But plastic worms are ruling over everything else. I'm starting to ask myself - why bring jigs and spinner baits when all that seems to work are plastic worms? I will say I love throwing jigs but I have no luck with them.
  24. Hi all! This is my first post besides my first one on the introduction forum. This is my first year fishing as an adult since I was a kid. I've been going after bass, shore fishing. I plan on getting the canoe out in a few days too to start fishing from the water. I've had 99.999999% of my success catching bass using plastic worms, mostly watermelon colored five inch plastic worms, usually by Yum. My collection of plastic baits is growing because they aren't too expensive and are fun to collect and use. So now I have a question on storing them: I have a tackle bag with four plano boxes. I was taking my plastic lures out of their original bags and putting them in Plano boxes; each different worm in it's own little compartment. I know some worms come scented. What I'm wondering about is: Is it OK to store plastic lures/worms in a Plano box or should they be kept in their original plastic bag? Will plastic worms lose their scent in a Plano box with other kinds of plastic worms? Thanks! And I love this site very much!
  25. I'm in the west central Indiana area.
