  1. smallie beaver dirty sanchez or paca craw all colors I lot of it is matching the crawdads on the river or lake that I am fishing. I really think flipping a few rocks can make the difference in whether or not it is a good day or a day that you will remember for a long time.
  2. I have a question for you guys. I have always had success with tubes down there and I am heading in April. I was wondering if you guys have had success with Ikas and Senkos at this lake. I usually just spent my time with jerbaits, tubes, cranks and lipless cranks. I am just trying to expand my skillset. For those that have fished it is it worth it or should I just stick to the old reliables. I am really trying to expand my game so any other suggestions for this lake would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Justin
  3. then largemouth pound for pound. I think it might be because they are tired of being called small. In all seriousness don't you just love how these bad boys fight. I can't waite until I can get me a few pigs this spring.
  4. Generalist Generalist Finess almost all of the time
  5. I use mepps, blue fox, joes flys, but I always go back to my Roostertails, either chartruse or white. They always catch fish. I wa just wondering what yours were.
  6. Welcome to the site. I do not post much but I have been reading every day for at least a year. I like to think that I learn something every day. The key to fishing is to have fun. It does not matter what you do as long as you have fun. The more you learn the better you will become. That means you will catch more fish. More fish = more fun. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Everyone here had to start somewhere. Good Luck and have fun.
  7. always fish them on a jig head as well. However I have had great success with tubes and finess worms like that. I will give that a fair shake and see how it works.
  8. wear warm clothes slow down your presentations
  9. I put them on some of my floating jerkbaits that I smallie fish with in the streams. I found that if I could keep them down they did fine but if they took to the sky they were throwing the lure with ease. This was a few years ago so I am sure that they are making better barbless hooks now.
  10. All I know is that I never fish for bedding smallies in the streams. I have never really fished for them on the lakes either durring this time. I do fish for them like this for the greenies, but I release them immediately. I don't know if it has any effects it just does not seem right or sporting.
  11. I have caught fish over 5 lbs on a creek that was less then ten yards wide. The key is to move slow and not spook the fish out of the holes before you even have a chance to get a cast in. Use the same baits that you would use anywhere else.
  12. I don't think that smallies ever really slow down. As soon as the ice is gone start fishing. When the water gets over 45 look out.
  13. Bagley Bang O lure three inch size
  14. I like a light weight shoe. I generally have New Balence on. If I am going to be standing all day I want my legs to stay comfortable.
  15. The Bagleys are great lures. We tear them up on the streams.
  16. Roadwarrior you are so right. We got into a mess of them up on Erie. It was one of those days they would hit anything. We just threw our cheapest stuff so if we got a break off it was no big deal. Retie and start over.
  17. pointers all sizes the bigger the bait the bigger the bass x-raps cabin creek tubes
  18. Those look good you should do well with those
  19. I don't think there is a wrong time to use it. I have caught fish year round with this.
  20. Thanks man, I am curious to see what those look like. However I have made it my goal this season to not jig fish as much. I want to really become efficient at crankin for smallies. However it is going to be hard to not slow down and drag some tubes.
  21. I do alot of stream fishing. I am climbing all over rocks trying to get to those bronzbacks. For me I just by the cheapos because I am so hard on them. I go through at least two pair a year.
  22. The search baits that I would throw would be the biggest rooster tail that you can find, a rattle trap, and various jerkbaits. These are all good search baits. Just remember smallmouth will genreally hit anything that a largmouth will. When I first started concentrating on smallmouths I thought small. Smallmouths = small baits. I could not have been more wrong. Throw the bigger baits for bigger smallies.
  23. I second the jerkbait. Also take a Senko and make fan casts. Let it sit for about 30 seconds sweep the rod about two or three feet let it sit for 20-30 seconds and repeat. You can do this with Ikas as well. I have yet to try them but you fish them just like a senko. You could always use live shiners or c-rigged night crawlers.
