  1. the temp will be about 50 don't know the water temp. Not going to hit the ky river until 12. I was just wondering what you would start throwing. I am thinking of rattle trap and spinner then switching to cabin creek tubes, senkos and ikas. What say you. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yeah forgot about some pointers and x-raps.
  2. 1. LC pointer american shad 2. rapala x-raps any color 3. rougues 4. bagley bango lures
  3. same as munkin anything that he has as a jerkbait is a good bet
  4. Just curious on why you want the extra fast action all of mine are fast and I have no problems
  5. Not a big fan of the slender pointers however for the regular pointers i throw the 128 not as many fish but the ones I do catch are alot bigger. MS american shad is my fav color around here.
  6. I have a ? for you guys. What kind of forage is in these lakes with these green smallies? I fish mostly in Elkhorn Creek KY, New River WV, and lake erie and I have never seen one that green. They sure are purdy though.
  7. Thanks good to know. I will be headed down that way in a few weeks. Just curious if you tried any pointers or did they only want the jerkbaits you were throwing.
  8. I recently bought a combo from cabellas. Anyway when I got my reel it had no handle and was nowhere to be seen. I called Cabellas and was told that the combos were not assembled by Cabellas and that I would have to return the combo and I would receive store credit. I said that I really like the deal and the combo and if there was anyway that I could call Shimano. They gave me the number to Shimano. So I called shimano and they said no problem sent the parts and two days later they were here. I just thought I would share my good experiences with both companies.
  9. Thanks that was what I was wondering.
  10. I am not a crankbait guy. I fish them when I think the time is right. However I have a buddy that will throw them in any condition and at any temp and still catch fish. I think the key to any bait is SPEED.
  11. I fish alot of small streams in the summer and some of my best lures are original rapalas, lews speed minnows, yozuri pinns and crystal minnows. I was just wondering if anyone has used the hump back minnow from lucky craft. I would assume that it is the same quality of my pointers and sammies. I would just like some info from guys that have fished it. I assume the smallies tear them up. Also would these work on trout as well.
  12. Roadwarrior last year I would have said the exact same thing. However last year I threw a 128 pointer and my brother said reel it again we are going to another spot. I am just burning this thing in when boom. We had been fishing with these things all morning with no success. This is one of my go to baits. Anyway we slaughtered them the rest of the day using a steady retrieve. I would go back and try the normal twitching with no luck. So everytime that I am throwing a jerkbait I will always give a steady retrieve at least a fair chance.
  13. This will be the first year for me to switch. I went to all 4 and 6# line. I do mostly smallie fishing so all I have used is the 4# so far. I love it. It was strong enough to bring in a 12# striper. Just have to play the fish.
  14. do you throw lipless cranks for Smallies? What colors are you using. I usually will throw a craw pattern or a chrome blue back or gold trap in the spring when I am up on Erie. I can usually find them that way then slow down and really hit them.
  15. Welcome to the best bass fishing site on the net.
  16. I have to agree with RW on this one. I have found that this lure is best used when you are able to cast and burn.
  17. I throw a jerjbait year round. I catch fish on them year round. While you boys are throwing your sammy and other top waters I am fishing about 2-3 feet under the surface. I just seem to produce more.
  18. I have caught a few on them, however the senko is more effective fished either weightless or wacky rigged. I think that sticking with the finess worms are the best however I am going to fish 5 inch lizzards alot on shaky heads this year. I just have a feeling.
  19. i give them an A for arseholes they have ruined fishing on tv
  20. joes flies and trout magnets are great lures that are rarely used i also use everything that people have said above
  21. For those of you that want to fish something other then tubes up on Erie then the spoons are a wonderful alternative. Yoyoing them can be deadly. I also use a swivel because of line twist.
  22. I have used Joes flies for years but only for trout. They seem smallish for smallies.
  23. Thanks with those tubes do you ever need other weights or have you found those to be your best bet.
  24. cabin creek
  25. Thanks guys. The guy I am going with fishes the lake at least 10 times a year. It looks like I will be sticking with the tubes for the most part. I guess I will have to sort through My Cabin Creeks and see what colors I have and which ones I need to stock up on.
