Just FYI
lake cumberland in Ky is going to be lowered ten feet for one year to work on the dam at wold creek. This is 40 ft below summer pool. If you are going to go make sure that the ramps are going to be open. They said that they would be expanding some of ramps. If you are going to be going I recommend that you take a map and/or GPS look close around the shore. Mark structure and drop offs so when the raise the lake you will not have to waste so much time searching. Cumberland is a great smallmouth lake and with the water down this summer the fish will be more concentrated and competive for food. So good luck and hope to see you on the lake.

Justin and I am a Jerkbait addict. I decided that I would go through my boxes and organize it a little while it is freezing outside and I have over 40 jerkbaits. Everytime I go to the stores I buy them. Rouges, pointers, X-raps, Husky Jerks and some I do not even know what the heck they are but they catch fish. I just love fishing Jerbaits. They always seem to catch fish. All year round it does not matter. When its cold slow it down, dead stick them for 30 seconds or more, then boom. For me there is nothing greater then early spring when the jerkbait bite is hot. I was just wondering if there is anyone else with my problem. I also wanted to know if anyone has had luck with the slender pointer. I guess I will have to get two or three just to try. I think that I will just go with the larger size. I have found that with the pointer I am just throwing the 128 anymore. I don't quite catch as many fish but the ones I do ooohhh yeah. Man I am glad I got this off my chest. Take Care

Carolina rigged craw fish for river smallies
I have never did that for smallies but it sounds like it would work. I rarely fish with plastics in streams or rivers for smallies but when I do I usually fish it weightless. I grew up trout fishing and feeling very light strikes. I have a harder time doing this when weights are involved. Even though smallies love crawbugs I try to fish more with minnow immitations. I have found that big smallies love big dying minnows. I throw the biggest jerkbaits I can find and large inline spinners. When all of that fails I will go to the senko or a tube. I will have to give this more of a try this year.

What do you expect?
If I fish most of the day anything under double figuers is a bad day. I like at least one or two in the 3#+ range.

Best Smallmouth fishin in the USA
Here it is I will tell you guys where the hawgs and numbers are. Lake Erie off the fairport launch 2 miles east at the bubble. 4-5lbers all day with the occasional 5 pounder. Up north once again there is a creek that runs through Penn. and Ohio Coneaut creek great stream for numbers and can get a pig in the early spring. In Ky there is Elkhorn Creek I have great numbers there with some pigs in the spring fall and winter. In the heat of the summer I can't seem to find the big ones. In Ky there is also KY lake and Parts of Dale Hollow enough said.

favorite rapala lure
This is a great thread. I have caught the most fish on the original floater black and silver but that is because I grew up fishing ponds and streams. However the last few years the x-rap and DT series has produced some big bass and some large amounts as well. I am a jerk bait addict I would throw a jerkbait all day every day if I could so I would have to go with the X-rap right now. I wish they made a floater that was a little heavier. The original is light and can be a pain to cast if it is windy.

Thanks I think I will have to give those a shot. Cabin Creek is coming out with a version of the Gobie as well. It is weird I have to buy two different types of smallmouth gear because I fish most of the time in KY and Tenn. but I go up to Erie enough to justify buying to make those trips more productive. I was wonder if you ever fished the cabin creek products and how Micromuch compared to them. Here in KY the shops can't keep them in stock. They outsell every other tube 3 to 1 down here.

Thanks i tend to stay away from plastics in swift water anyway. I did have another question for you Roadwarrior. I know that you like micro munch tackle. i was at there site and was wondering if you have used their gobies? They look great and I was just wondering how you feel about their other products. My father-in-law lives on Lake Erie and i think these could be deadly this spring. Thanks in advance

I just picked up some from Dicks this morning. I was wondering the best approach for smallmouth. I figuered i would start by rigging them T-rig backwards and weightless. When I find the smallies, just cast out and let it set for 30 seconds or so then gently sweep it two or three feet let it set for another 15-20 seconds and repeat. I do this with senkos and this seems to be the best method for me. Any critiques would be appreciated thanks.

Line question for smallmouth in rivers
Where is the best place to find that Yozuri line I have looked in the BPS catelog but did not find it. I have a question, the diameter of the 6lb seems almost as thick as most 8lb lines does it not? Ksdog what about the line did you not like?

Crankin' Preferences of the Smallmouth
I have to say that the pointers from the 78 and up have been my best bait for the smallies. I have had good luck with DT's but for the money it is hard to beat the bandit 300 mad cow i don't know why but that is what i catch my pigs on

Bang O Lure
i love those lures. they used to make a three inch version that was unmatched on the streams for smallies. i only have one left and can not find them anymore. they were great in their day.
