Looking for a 7' M/F bait cast "utility" rod that will serve multiple purposes under $120 . The new Abu Garcia Veritas (white) gets good reviews - but I have only seen it with micro guides which I do not like for braid to leader applications ... What is your favorite 6'10" ~ 7' M/F bait cast utility rod for top water , jerk baits , weightless soft plastics , etc. ?

Perhaps due to the depth people fish ribbon tail worms at - but it seems that ribbon tail worm colors people favor are different than say their shaky head worm colors ... With shaky head worm colors you often see green pumpkin or watermelon red called out while with ribbon tail worms its plum , plum apple , blue fleck , tequila sunrise , black and blue , etc. which are colors you don't even see in a typical shaky head worm - why is that ? At any rate , what are your favorite ribbon tail worm colors ?

*What size Yozuri Hybrid on your 5 Ned set ups ? I also assume you are using a spinning rod/reel set up ?

I'm a fan of larger poppers : I have the Rebel P71 (Baby Bass) , R2S Bubble Walker (Bone) and with the Berkley Bullet Pop I dropped down to the 70 size (Ghost White) to fill a specific void in my popper line up . *It may be true that the smaller poppers (1/4 oz.) may produce more bass closer to cover or slick water but on my preferred bait caster set up it's like trying to cast a potato chip - thus I like the 3/8th oz. to 1/2 oz. poppers better (they also are more accurate to cast) . A dedicated Curado 50 set up with 8 lb. mono and a ML to M fast rod will throw the smaller poppers - but that's just too dedicated to make my starting line up . I also like the Storm Arashi Cover Pop (Bluegill) as it casts well and you can work it a long time in one spot . It too is a large popper but I have seen Ott DeFoe and Seth Feider destroy bass on that thing .

Except for those who may be bass fishing in Alaska - what are your favorite: "Dog Days Of Summer" favorite bass lures ? ... I'm talking August with heat indexes in the 100's , water temperature not far behind and little to no wind . I am slowly dragging a ribbon tail worm or a football jig - mainly because I do not have the energy to make multiple casts in this hot , humid August Georgia weather ... *It was so hot yesterday , the bass were fighting over ice cubes from my cooler I dumped in the water at the boat ramp when it was time to go home - Let's hear your suffering & successes !

Go down to a #2 and #4 hook size (Owner 5318) as conditions , soft plastic sizes dictate http://www.luremaking.com/catalogue/catalogue-index/catalogue-items/hooks/owner_5318.htm . I could spend a life time with just the #2 hook size with this jig head and never look back . Lastly after making the jig head with the #4 and #2 hook sizes - experiment with bending the hook point up ever so slightly about 1 degree which can lead to better hook ups . If your waters have a fair amount of obstructions at or near the bottom - do not hesitate to drop down to a smaller #4 hook size which will prevent more hang ups . While obviously designed as a moderately priced cranking rod first - what other applications / tactics do you like to use the Fury 705CB for ?

I'm always interested in new & improved lines on a budget ... The new Yo-Zuri T7 FC line (#15 lb.) and the Sufix ProMix (#30 lb.) braid are of interest ... See any new lines that interest you ?

*The Fury 705CB appears to be an interesting rod in the Fury line up - who uses it for techniques other than cranking ?

*Will certainly work - but you have to turn the Fluke upside down as no way you can thread a hook back up through the belly (too thin / skinny !)

*The key with straight shank and round bend offset hooks is to start the point into the top of the worm head and come out of the bottom with the right slant / angle ... That will remove the crooked shape of the worm when you insert the hook point into the worm .

Even though the price has jumped up to $109 ($99 still at Academy) - I still consider this reel series to be the best bang for the buck in bait cast reels . Outside of a Lew's BB1 or the new 40 yard max line capacity Lew's specialty flipping reel - I really have no reason to look for new bait cast reel love (and that includes passing on the more expensive Tatula) ... Your thoughts for those who own the Daiwa Fuego CT ?

Right you are !! ... * Don't go any heavier than 1/16th oz. for Ned Jig Heads and you won't get hung up -> lose as many ! After all , the "Mid West Clan" here will throw a 1/16th oz. Ned Jig Head in winds as high as 35MPH and not think anything of it while still catching bass .

*Storm Arashi Cover Pop - Bluegill color . If Ott Defoe (a.k.a. the voice of: "Hank Hill - The Propane Salesman") says it's good - then it's good !
