I wouldn't try and return it to bass pro (or any other store),since you didn't buy it there it's not their problem. I would say keep it or sell it to someone and tell them what is wrong with it. Chalk it up to a lesson learned for next time.

I use a 7' medium power fast action avid casting rod. 12 pound invizx. I don't get why people would think you can't cast a fluke with casting gear. Just because you're not using a weighted hook doesn't mean it's actually "unweighted". I've never had an issue casting a fluke with casting gear, in fact i think they cast easily. Now when I say fluke I mean the super fluke. The original fluke would probably be really tricky with casting gear. I like to fish super flukes on a owner twist lock hook,unweighted or weighted if i want to get them deeper. I like the screw lock on those hooks with the centering pin. It's easy to screw in and doesn't tear the nose of the fluke up as quickly as an offset hook. Bubblegum for pre spawn, pearl for the rest of the year.

All spinning reels create line twist when reeling. Some reels just do a better job of decreasing it.

I can't stand pflueger spinning reels. I've had constant line twist and wind knot issues with every one ive used. And they all have that two piece bail that somehow always seems to catch light line. If they got rid of that bail and had line management like shimanos I'd give them a shot again.

I would go with a 7' medium power fast action. Bass pro carbonlite is a good rod for 100 bucks.

I'm waiting for tw to lower the price on the closeout zillion. I'm going to ****** up as many as possible. Also thinking about buying two more jdm certates. Just bought a '13 2500 certate and it's awesome!

I don't mind shipping charges. I just wish they had the part's I need in stock, especially for reels still in production. Seems like every time I need a part it's out of stock and I have to go searching.

Spinning or casting?

Over a dozen curado e's for 75 bucks each huh. Let me guess, they're all still as smooth as the day you took them out of the box.

Seriously? People were in an uproar because they were used to chronarch d's and figured the new chronarch would be just as good but we're tricked into buying a downgraded reel. Same thing with the curado, they were tricked into buying a g series thinking it would be the same quality as the e series.

The drag has nothing to do with the whole shimano binding issue. It's not the drag that binds, it's the gears when you're trying to reel. The older friction rings did cause problems, but they weren't the only problem with the binding when wet issue. The friction rings would get gummy or swell and rub the inside of the rotor causing binding. The friction rings don't keep the handle from moving when your hand is not on it. They keep the rotor and handle from turning ONLY when the bail is open. This keeps the bail from slamming shut on the cast. The bail trip rod presses against the ring when you open the bail. The only problem you may have with removing them is the bail slamming shut on a hard cast. The newer shimano reels have a friction ring with slots in them that the bail trip rod fits in between. I've had lot's of shimanos that still bind with the friction ring removed. It happens when the get wet. clean and relube the reel and it goes away until they get wet again. I think the problem is where the bottom of the pinion gear fits into the frame of the reel. The fit is so tight that water mixed with grease causes the gear to stick where it spins in the frame. The new reels have a bearing on the bottom of the pinion gear now and I haven't had any binding issues at all with any of my stradic fj's or ci4+'s. And they've been wet numerous times.

Won't hurt a thing as long as it doesn't have a sharp edge.

Most of my technique specific rods are used for something other than the technique listed on the rod. It's just a way for rod manufacturers to get you to buy more rods. If it feels right use it.

Just remove the ring from one reel and see if it still binds before you buy 4 of them. I've had Sahara fds and symetre fjs that still bind when wet without the ring installed.

Adds to the smoothness? How?

Falcon bucoo 7ft medium/heavy moderate/fast trap caster. Works great with rattle baits and would be fine for plastics even though it's moderate/fast. One of my favorite rods.

I have 2 stradic fj's, and 2 ci4+'s. While they are reliable compared to older shimano spinners they are anything but smooth. It's not in the main gears it's the worm gear for the spool oscillation that makes them feel rough. I will say that they have the best drag and line management of any spinning reel I've used. I just can't stand the way they feel on the retrieve.

Anyone have any good or bad experience with these rods? Casting or spinning. TW has them for 99 bucks.

To the o.p. my recommendation would be to look for another new daiwa tierra. I haven't been really happy with any spinning reel since daiwa discontinued the tierra, advantage, and sol. And I've bought a LOT of spinning reels since those.

So which model do you have? I'm talking about the current model available the fl. I gave it a bad review because it was no where near the quality of the my symetre fjs. Rough gears,flex in the frame,plus i couldn't hold it comfortably because shimano decided to design it for someone with hands the size of a 8 year old kid.

The new symetre has one of the main gear bearings replaced with a plastic bushing. Shimano supposedly "upgraded" them with xship, yet at the same time downgrade them with a bushing where a bearing used to be and a composite frame. Why not just keep the bearing? I bought one and sold it after using it twice.

I agree. The rage rods have terrible build quality imo. Lot's of sloppy epoxy and crooked guides. The avids just feel so much more sensitve and balanced. Plus they have Fuji alconite guides.
