Spot Or Not?
Three fish for 7-13 won the tournament and three for 5-something got 2nd haha. Since you're from that area, have you ever heard of spots coming from South Holston?

Spot Or Not?
Today, my friend sent me a picture of some fish weighed in at a tournament he fished this weekend. I previously asked him if the lake had spots and he said no, so like any good friend would, I pointed it out when he sent me a picture of someone weighing in a spot there. Bottom line is I'm saying spot, he's saying largemouth. Let's hear it BR!

Where did the fish go?!
In rivers this time of year, fish definitely move around a lot to get close to their wintering areas. Here today gone tomorrow for sure applies, but when you do find them, they usually aren't alone.

Fishing to become an Olympic sport?
Have you ever heard Gerald Swindle talk about when doctors monitored his body during a 9 hour tournament?

Guess The Weight Of This Bass
That fish is built! Since you are wearing jerseys I assume you did weigh the fish if this was in a tournament. I'd say at least 6lbs maybe more.

Caught my first chatterbait smallmouth today. 15" which is darn good for the Mon River in Morgantown. 2nd biggest I've caught fishing the river several times a week since August.

How long can bass live in a cooler without air
Get a little battery powered aerator and give them fresh water right before you leave the lake. They can last quite a while like this, I do it with trout.

Little Brother Can't Be Stopped
Once again living vicariously through my little brother this weekend as he wins another high school bass tournament! He weighed 5 fish for 8.8lbs on legendary "One Fish Anna" from the back of the boat. Some of the seniors in the club blanked today! He caught his fish on a wacky senko, top secret stuff. As you can see, there is a brace on his right wrist, from a not-so-friendly run in with a knife in the kitchen last week. The combination of stitches and the brace means a bait caster is out of the question right now, but he made it work.

Open water cranking
The strike king 3xd has caught several open (and clear) water bass for me. Stop and go retrieve is definitely something to look into, the bait never actually stops but changes pace and definitely triggers strikes.

Do bass ever really "turn off" during winter down south?
Just be thankful that your lures will never bounce

Biggest of the year so far
Definitely not the drop shot with 6lb fluoro I stereotyped the fish being caught with!

This little musky found its way to my 1/4oz Excalibur lipless crank today and miraculously didn't bite through the 10lb mono it was on. The Calcutta Conquest 50 sure is being put to the test!

The WVU bass fishing team hosted a tournament on stonewall Jackson lake on Saturday. In between blast off and when I had to bump fish at the weigh in, I did a little bit of kayak fishing. Nothing big but a pretty spot and a 2.5 largemouth were the highlights.

TDIL: Nets are important.
There are a lot of bass there, but it is a herring lake and gets tons of pressure, so go figure. A lot of the bass in that lake think they are stripers. Fishing in the spring in the clear water will show you how many bass are there

Too many shad?
Too much bait is a very real occurrence, it happens on one of the lakes I fish very close to home. The fish tend to be gorgeous from bodies of water with that though.

My bite is garbage this fall
Strike King RES and Rapala DT4/6 are my favorite fall crankbaits. Spinnerbaits are definitely a must too. Depending on water clarity you can get on a good jerkbait bite in the fall too.

Just make sure everything on the back of them is either a keitech swing impact fat or a zoom ultravibe speed craw!
